Receptionist assumed without asking first

Many of the reception staff would benefit from asking for clarification rather than making assumptions. I had only been registered for two months when an interaction with a female receptionist resulted in a complaint being made about me, with an attempt to have me transferred to another practice. This occurred because there appeared to be doubt about my registration status at the surgery, despite my living circumstances being as stated. This staff member questioned my account of events, which I found concerning given the professional setting and the attitude displayed during our interaction.

Phone appointment arrived two hours late

Was promised a telephone consultation at 10am but the call came through at just after midday. As I was unavailable at that time, I was told it would be reattempted later in the day. I remained waiting but the follow-up call did not arrive by 6pm.

Actually listens and seems to care

One of the best healthcare professionals I've encountered at this practice. Personable, professional and genuinely engaged, unlike some practitioners who merely go through the motions. Update 2022…There has been a change in staffing at the practice. A covering clinician has taken on additional responsibilities and demonstrates the same qualities of attentiveness and genuine care that made the previous experience so positive.

Felt rushed and not properly examined

I attended an appointment at the practice regarding neck discomfort on one side and a noticeable lump. The clinician performed a physical examination of both sides of my neck and indicated that nothing appeared to be wrong. While I recognise that neck pain may require time to improve, the lump I can feel remains present and tender. Overall, I felt that my concerns were not fully considered during the consultation, and I did not feel the interaction was particularly supportive or reassuring. The appointment did not meet my expectations.

Distracted me with humour during blood test

Having recently relocated to the area in November, I finally had the opportunity to attend my first appointment at the practice for a blood test. As someone who experiences significant anxiety around needles, I was apprehensive about the visit. The healthcare professional who called me through demonstrated exceptional care and consideration. Rather than dismissing my concerns or offering reassurance about overcoming my fear, they instead used engaging conversation and humour to help me feel at ease throughout the procedure. The blood sample was obtained successfully on the first attempt. Their warm and personable manner made a genuine difference to my experience, and I felt genuinely grateful for their compassionate approach. I would like to express my appreciation for how they helped me feel comfortable during what could have been a stressful appointment. They are a real asset to the practice.

Got through on the phone straightaway

Very impressed with this practice. When I phoned in the morning, I got through immediately and after explaining my concerns, I was offered an appointment later that same day. I only waited a short time past my scheduled slot and didn't feel hurried during the consultation. The clinician took time to listen to what I had to say. Thank you very much for the care provided. I would have no hesitation in recommending this practice to others.

I'm aware that challenges exist within the broader healthcare system. However, I believe the local practice in this area is performing exceptionally well, and I have had no concerns whatsoever. When I relocated to the area, I was fortunate that this particular surgery was willing to accept me as a patient. It has proven to be an excellent choice.
