Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals a deeply polarised patient experience, with appointment access and reception courtesy emerging as the most significant service challenges. Patients consistently report extended waiting times to reach the practice by phone, difficulty securing appointment slots, and reception staff displaying discourteous or dismissive behaviour during interactions. Communication barriers are widespread, with some patients unable to reach the practice despite multiple attempts, whilst others describe phone queues reaching capacity within minutes of opening. In stark contrast, clinical care receives consistent praise from those who successfully access appointments, with medical staff described as compassionate, attentive, and professional.

Several patients note that once past the booking stage, consultations with doctors and nurses are thorough and supportive. The disparity between reception experience and clinical quality is particularly notable, with some reviews explicitly acknowledging excellent medical care undermined by poor front-desk interactions. A minority of patients report positive booking experiences and welcoming reception staff, suggesting service quality varies considerably depending on when and how contact is made. Organisational capacity appears strained, with patients identifying understaffing and system limitations as underlying causes of access difficulties.

Frustrating healthcare with mixed staff interactions

The front desk staff are delightful, but the pharmacy and medical team create significant hurdles in obtaining medications, particularly when they've traditionally issued weekly prescriptions and now expect patients with memory challenges to manage this independently. Abbi, the pharmacist, displays an unpleasant and sarcastic demeanor, showing zero empathy towards the overwhelming stress placed on individuals struggling with memory impairments. Her lack of understanding about the difficulties patients face is alarming. I can now comprehend why this medical practice might face closure. The overall service is extremely poor. However, it's worth noting that Rebecca and Tom, the nurses, are exceptional, and the reception team consistently demonstrates helpfulness and a genuine desire to assist. It's unfortunate they bear the brunt of the fallout caused by the doctors' inadequate practices.

Excellent!

Quick and caring medical service

Just this past Friday, I reached out to schedule an appointment and was pleasantly surprised to secure a slot within less than an hour of my call. The female physician I consulted was incredibly friendly and accommodating. While I recognize this isn't always the standard experience, I find their scheduling process quite effective. Additionally, the front desk staff consistently maintains a welcoming demeanor. 🥰

Impossible to reach healthcare when you need help

Attempted to call precisely at 8 AM, only to be greeted by a message stating the call queue was already maxed out - utterly unacceptable! It's clear more personnel and medical professionals are desperately needed to compensate for the shuttered Wood Street location. No one deliberately decides to fall sick and then finds themselves unable to connect when seeking help. Completely frustrated with this experience.

Rushed consultation left us frustrated and misunderstood

I encountered a deeply unsatisfactory medical consultation where the physician's approach was dismissive and unprofessional. When my partner attempted to explain his health concerns, the doctor abruptly cut him off and immediately questioned the purpose of his visit. Despite my partner having recently undergone a blood test revealing elevated blood sugar levels, the doctor hastily prescribed medication without conducting a comprehensive diagnostic workup. Typically, before initiating diabetes treatment, a complete HbA1c test is essential to establish a thorough understanding of the patient's condition. While we understand that medical appointments are time-constrained, we felt completely unheard and marginalized during this interaction. The consultation left us frustrated and concerned about the quality of medical care received.

Terrible service endangers patient's health and life

The front desk deliberately blocked my contact attempts, which is absolutely unacceptable, especially considering my critical health situation. Despite my persistent efforts to communicate over several days, the situation escalated to the point where I required emergency medical transportation to the hospital.

Awful medical care that left me deeply frustrated

Utterly appalling service from the most incompetent medical practice I've ever encountered. The front desk staff were completely unsympathetic when I attempted to schedule a consultation for my elderly, vulnerable mother. They claimed no availability for weeks, refusing even a telephone consultation. The whole situation is disgracefully unacceptable and utterly absurd!

Worst medical centre ever avoid at all costs

This GP Surgery is absolutely the most horrendous I've encountered across the entire United Kingdom. If your goal is to accelerate your demise, simply register with Rivermead Medical Centre, and they'll efficiently assist your swift departure. Since becoming their patient over a year ago, I've been unable to secure a single appointment, let alone consult a physician. Had I developed a critical medical condition requiring urgent care, I would undoubtedly have perished while waiting for a GP consultation. Moreover, the receptionist matches the medical centre's incompetence, displaying an equally abysmal attitude and unprofessional conduct. Rivermead desperately needs intervention from the CQC to prevent further potential loss of life, or alternatively, a complete management overhaul that allows genuinely competent professionals to take control. If a rating lower than one star existed, I would unquestionably select it, as they scarcely merit even that single star. An utterly worthless Medical Centre that fails at every conceivable level of healthcare service.

Frustrating healthcare experience with poor booking system

Absolutely awful experience. Spent four separate phone attempts just trying to schedule a basic blood test. Their scheduling is ridiculous - you can only book by calling precisely at 8:00am, with an average hold time of 40 minutes. They brazenly tried to pin their incompetence on Covid, when it's obviously a deep-rooted organizational problem. If this were a private business, they would have collapsed long ago due to such terrible service. The staff were discourteous and showed complete disregard for patient needs.
