Appointment availability emerges as the dominant concern across feedback, with patients reporting severe difficulty securing consultations through phone booking systems that operate on restricted windows and consistently show no availability. Waiting experiences are frequently cited as problematic, encompassing both extended phone queue times before reaching reception and lengthy waits in practice facilities once appointments are obtained. Communication failures appear systemic, ranging from unresponsive phone lines and dropped calls to delayed prescription processing and administrative delays affecting patient care continuity.
Reception experience presents a mixed picture. While some patients praise courteous and helpful staff, others report dismissive, disrespectful, or condescending conduct that compounds frustration with access difficulties. Several reviews highlight issues with booking system dysfunction, including online platforms that are difficult to navigate and callback systems that fail to function as promised. Prescription service efficiency varies considerably, with some patients experiencing prompt processing while others report repeated delays and forgotten requests.
Positive feedback acknowledges exceptional clinical care from healthcare professionals, compassionate treatment during consultations, and a welcoming environment when patients do gain access. However, these strengths are substantially overshadowed by systemic access and communication challenges that leave many patients unable to obtain timely appointments or reach the practice by phone, creating significant barriers to receiving care.

Excellent!
Efficient service saved me time and hassle today
I reached out today about a persistent infection, a problem that doesn't warrant a full doctor's visit. The incredibly helpful receptionist guided me through using the clinic's online messaging system to contact the physician. The process was seamless - I received a callback within 60 minutes, and my prescription was ready for pickup at the pharmacy. Much appreciation for their efficient service 🤗

Bad!
Terrible service and lack of patient care
Scheduling with this medical practice has become increasingly challenging since the pandemic. They seem to have deprioritized patient care, with a dismissive approach to booking appointments. When calling at 8 AM, you're met with an abrupt rejection and told to complete an online form. After submitting the form, you wait over a day to receive a curt phone call informing you of an appointment a week later, with no consideration for your convenience or well-being. The communication is impersonal and rigid, leaving you uncertain about the exact timing of the call. Miss their single attempt to reach you, and you're out of luck. So now I'm expected to be on high alert from 8 AM next Tuesday, just in case they decide to contact me.

Surgeon Turned My Leg into a Bonus Limb
Checked into the hospital for a leg procedure, and somehow walked out with an additional limb. Shout out to Dr. Nichols for this unexpected bonus.

Terrible service and impossible to reach anyone
Complete disaster attempting to reach this medical practice. When you call, you're number 37 in line, and their website email simply returns undelivered... extremely subpar service.

Terrible waiting room experience from decades ago
Visited this place nearly three decades ago, was directed there by my employer. The waiting area was incredibly chaotic and ear-splittingly loud. I haven't returned since and have absolutely no desire to do so!

Excellent!
Caring doctor helped me through challenging medical journey
I vehemently take issue with some of these comments, as they absolutely do not align with my personal experience. Two years ago, I consulted Doctor Backhouse and found her to be exceptional, displaying remarkable compassion and understanding. I can unequivocally state that her approach towards me was profoundly memorable, and entirely in a positive sense. I am approaching an upcoming surgical procedure for the condition I initially sought her advice about. While this has been a two-year journey, I completely understand and accept the underlying reasons. Fortunately, my condition is not life-threatening, and non-surgical alternatives needed thorough exploration. Considering the global pandemic's impact since my initial diagnosis, I am genuinely appreciative of being in a healthcare system where I can receive this procedure at no personal cost. My overall interactions with this medical practice have also been predominantly positive. I recognize that experiences can vary, but I am thoroughly satisfied with my care.

Terrible service and uncaring staff avoid at all costs
Escaping this medical practice was absolutely liberating. Scheduling an appointment has been a nightmare, both pre- and post-pandemic. On the rare occasion you manage to secure a slot, the staff are patronizing and completely unhelpful. My advice: spare yourself the frustration and seek healthcare elsewhere - anywhere but here would be an improvement.

Frustrating healthcare with unhelpful and tardy doctors
Scheduling an appointment was challenging even prior to the pandemic. The front desk staff are friendly, but the medical professionals lack competence. They consistently fail to diagnose issues or claim there's no viable solution. Physicians chronically run behind schedule without communicating delays to patients. Even for those with infrequent medical needs, this particular practice is undoubtedly the most subpar in the Castleford area.

Bad!
Terrible service and lack of compassion for disabled
Positioned 25th in line, only to be abruptly disconnected after three-quarters of an hour—absolutely disgraceful. I was attempting to secure a follow-up covid vaccination for my autistic son, and the receptionist's response was shockingly insensitive, questioning why he couldn't handle the booking independently. Simply unbelievable.

Smooth surgery experience with caring professional staff
The surgical procedure was top-notch, and I encountered zero issues. The front desk staff were incredibly courteous and efficient. I want to express my sincere gratitude to the entire team for their outstanding service.

Poor!
Unhelpful staff make medical visit a frustrating experience
If I resided in Castleford, I wouldn't select this medical practice. The receptionists act like they're physicians and give misleading information. When you inquire about a specific doctor's availability, they claim the doctor isn't working, yet simultaneously admit they're seeing patients—which is completely contradictory.

Frustrating phone system wastes my entire morning
You call first thing in the morning at 8:00am and immediately find yourself stuck in a queue with roughly 30 other callers. After waiting for approximately half an hour to speak with someone, you're informed that all appointments are gone and are instructed to try again at 1:30pm, where you're once again confronted with an extensive waiting line. This scheduling approach clearly requires serious reconsideration.

Poor!
Frustrating phone wait and covid carelessness nightmare
From 8am-9am: Phone wait times exceed an hour with no clarity on queue status or estimated wait duration. Appointment scheduling calls appear limited to 8am to 10:30am window. By 9am: Attempted calling again, only to be met with an automated queue system. Booking appointments after 10:30am seems unfeasible. Observed patients entering without masks, and one individual made an inappropriate, insensitive comparison of COVID to another serious illness.

Great!
Riverside surgery good care with minor phone queue issues
It's far from flawless - they definitely need to improve their phone queue system, especially early in the morning, as some days you're left waiting and other times the line is simply engaged. The latter is annoying, the former somewhat understandable. Nevertheless, the overall care we've experienced at Riverside has been excellent. Even during the COVID period, our family received the necessary medical attention promptly, and they've been proactive in scheduling routine check-ups at appropriate times. It's a large practice with numerous physicians, which naturally means many patients, but I've encountered no significant problems and would gladly recommend them to anyone relocating to this area. The added convenience of being next to a pharmacy is also a plus. The practice seems more efficiently run now that the chaotic morning walk-in clinic is gone, and you can typically consult a doctor via phone within a day or so. While it's not without its minor irritations, these challenges are fairly standard across medical practices.

Terrible healthcare service left me feeling hopeless
Attempting to access their service has been an incredibly frustrating experience that left me hesitant for weeks before finally mustering the resolve to contact them. Upon calling, I was dismissively told they were completely booked and instructed to try again the next day. This treatment is absolutely unacceptable. I wouldn't have reached out if my concern wasn't genuinely important. Their approach is completely unprofessional and potentially dangerous. For someone struggling with severe depression, such callous and unhelpful responses could have seriously detrimental consequences.

Incompetent medical practice wasted my time and money
What an incompetent medical practice that fails to communicate and complete basic paperwork. Back in November, I underwent a medical examination for my heavy goods vehicle license, and by March, I was still waiting for the necessary forms to be processed. I'm essentially still without my license and unable to work, which has directly resulted in a £100 loss for me. Truly terrible service from these so-called professionals.

Terrible service and unacceptable waiting times
Hanging around pointlessly for three whole hours since morning, only to watch late arrivals waltz in at 12:30 and get immediate treatment within minutes is completely unacceptable. The wait time is ridiculous and the service management is a total joke.
