Terrible healthcare with zero patient support

I've been a patient at Riverside Surgery for a considerable time. Dr Davies is excellent, but her extensive waiting list makes timely appointments impossible. Overall, the practice's service is subpar. Every single day, I've attempted to secure an emergency appointment, only to be redirected to the Urgent Care in Crawley. What's particularly frustrating is that an appointment I scheduled 9 weeks ago for tomorrow morning - which I was depending on to address a condition causing me daily intense pain - was abruptly cancelled due to the GP's illness. While I understand medical staff get sick, the receptionist was completely unwilling to help me arrange an alternative appointment or obtain any pain management until my rescheduled consultation (which is now 5 weeks away). Her sole suggestion was to call at 8am tomorrow for an urgent slot, which I know is futile since I've already tried this approach for the past three working days. Each time I call, I'm simply told to go to A&E because they can't assist me. I recognize the NHS is overwhelmed, but my medical concerns have been consistently dismissed as 'normal' for years. IT IS NOT NORMAL. I've had to fight desperately for specialist referrals, which still haven't materialized. I've now reached a point where the pain is so severe, I can barely leave my bed.

Riverside medical staff helpful once past reception

I've now had two interactions with the medical staff at Riverside. It seems that once you navigate past the administrative gatekeepers of the NHS, there are actually no significant issues. The real challenge lies in the initial process of accessing medical care. The GPs have been consistently helpful and professional. ———————————————————- This appears to be the worst GP surgery I've encountered. The reception team seems perpetually eager to create conflict. Despite my attempts to be understanding, after being repeatedly spoken over and treated condescendingly, it's clear there's a problematic internal culture. Being instructed to go to the Urgent Care Centre for repeat medication prescription when I first joined the practice, after being told I needed to speak to someone, was completely unacceptable. During a medications review, I was prescribed an incorrect medication dosage, even after I carefully repeated the dose twice to prevent errors. The receptionist continuously talked over me, insisting my appointment must be with my named GP, despite the fact that my GP doesn't know me and any qualified clinician could effectively assist me. Overall, for the past two months, it has been a thoroughly unpleasant experience.

Worst customer service ever terrible phone support

Your phone service is absolutely absurd! I've attempted to call twice this week at 8 PM, and each time I've been met with an infuriating "call cannot be completed" message. After wasting an entire hour waiting, someone finally picked up at 9:30 PM, only to dismissively tell me no appointments are available and to go to the A&E. This is completely unacceptable and totally ridiculous.

Impossible to see doctor for sick young child

I tried scheduling an appointment for my 8-month-old who has an ear infection, fever, and cough, and after waiting on hold from 8:05 am (they don't even answer calls before a certain time) until 8:25 am, I was told there are no available slots and advised to go to the emergency room or call 111. The receptionist showed zero empathy when I broke down in tears, simply repeating that they had no space for my son and seeing no point in further discussion. The hospital staff informed me this is unusual, as children under 2 are supposed to be seen as a legal requirement. Dr. Patel and Davies are genuinely excellent when you actually manage to get an appointment, and I understand surgeries can get busy... but having no availability for an 8-month-old is incredibly frustrating. This happened last week with my 2-year-old as well. Thankfully, I managed to help her with a pharmacist's assistance, though she's still not fully recovered and would likely benefit from seeing her doctor - an seemingly impossible task. I'm left wondering if anyone genuinely cares. It's just deeply disheartening...

Terrible gp service leaves patients desperate and frustrated

Trying to secure a GP appointment is an exercise in futility. If you're too ill to participate in the morning phone lottery at 8am, you're essentially out of luck. The indifferent reception staff will casually suggest you visit Crawley hospital's A&E - a brilliant solution when you're sleep-deprived and battling bronchitis. Absolutely not. When you attempt to call at 8am, the phone line is mysteriously unmanned. You're left repeatedly dialing, only to finally reach someone around 8:30, at which point you're 16th in an endless queue. The so-called medical practice seems to consist of a lone Paramedic running a triage room and a Pharmacist who enjoys making intrusive calls at inconvenient hours. Steer clear of this place at all costs!

Debbie, the receptionist, displayed a highly unprofessional demeanor. When I attempted to schedule an appointment for my child, she directed me to a website where booking was impossible, forcing me to call back the following day. Upon reconnecting, I encountered Debbie again, who continued to be discourteous. Fortunately, the calls are recorded for training purposes, which might help address her inappropriate conduct.

Disappointing decline of once great medical practice

I've been a loyal patient at Riverside for over three decades, and the service was excellent until recently. While I understand the challenges of Covid, there's a limit to how long such excuses remain valid. They're consistently late in contacting patients, even for scheduled appointments, and offer no apologies. Prescription processing is sluggish, and getting a face-to-face consultation requires constant prodding. It seems like they've completely lost their sense of care and commitment.
