Reception staff dismissive when requesting necessary blood tests

My husband received a diagnosis of a serious brain condition at a hospital in January following what was initially thought to be a different condition by this practice. Since then, we have felt that the practice has not been proactive in providing regular blood monitoring that we believe would be helpful for his care. The support offered has been minimal, with tests only arranged when specifically requested by the hospital specialist. During a recent phone call regarding scan results, there appeared to be a lack of awareness about his condition, and the suggested follow-up timeframe did not seem appropriate given his circumstances. Overall, our experience suggests the practice takes a reactive rather than proactive approach to his care.

Was seen as part of the practice for mental health concerns and the clinician was excellent. They made me feel very comfortable despite my significant anxiety. They discussed everyday matters which helped me relax, and then carefully listened to everything I shared, offering thoughtful advice and practical suggestions. I normally find it difficult to discuss my mental health with others but would be happy to return for another appointment. I hope this feedback reaches you. Friendly staff but gents toilets need updating

Good service from the clinical staff, however the facilities could use some improvements. The male toilets have three cubicles but no urinals. The first cubicle appears to be permanently locked and won't open, the second cubicle doesn't lock properly, and the third cubicle locks but the flush is unreliable. The male toilet facilities are quite outdated and could benefit from modernisation. Otherwise, the experience was excellent.

Phone queue delays left patient without timely care

I am writing this review on behalf of my partner, who has chosen not to complain directly, to share our experience with this practice. On a recent date, my partner contacted the surgery after experiencing what he believed to be an allergic reaction to insect bites. Following an extended wait of approximately an hour and a half to reach someone, he was informed that a clinician would call him back after providing his symptoms to reception staff. However, several days passed without any contact from the practice. During this period, the swelling on the right side of his face increased significantly, causing his eye to close, whilst he remained at work. The pain became increasingly severe, and he eventually visited a pharmacist for pain relief. The pharmacist identified the issue as shingles and advised him to seek urgent GP care. Since the out-of-hours service was not available until later that evening, he attended the accident and emergency department, where he was seen relatively promptly and received the antibiotics he required. A single callback from the practice would likely have prevented the need for this hospital visit, yet no contact, follow-up, or acknowledgement was ever received. This experience has been deeply disappointing.

This practice has significant issues with communication and patient care. Messages submitted through the online system appear to go unanswered or are dismissed without resolution. Medication adjustments seem to occur without prior discussion with patients. Appointments are scheduled without proper notification. The clinical staff can come across as dismissive and condescending, often interrupting patients and failing to address their concerns adequately. When practitioners are disengaged, they simply disengage further rather than attempting to help. Overall, this is an unsatisfactory place to receive care.

The service was disappointing, with limited availability for face-to-face interactions. Reception staff directed me away from the desk, and I was required to use the online messaging system instead, which I found quite difficult to navigate.

Quick blood pressure monitoring through the pharmacy

I was delighted to discover that the local pharmacy was offering a complimentary 24-hour blood pressure monitoring service. I attended the pharmacy to have my blood pressure checked and was pleasantly surprised to be contacted the same day to schedule an appointment for the monitoring service. The monitor was fitted during my appointment a few days later, and my results were subsequently sent to my doctor. I am now waiting to hear back from my GP regarding the findings. This service proved to be significantly quicker than the alternative option available through my GP surgery, which would have involved a considerably longer waiting period. I was extremely impressed with the efficiency of the process and the welcoming manner of the staff involved. I am very grateful for this service.

Quick response when I needed urgent help

Called the practice on the day after a medical incident and was seen immediately by a member of staff who was exceptionally helpful. They organised nursing support and arranged transport to the emergency department without delay. The service provided was excellent and could not have been improved. Additionally, a follow-up phone call was made the next day to check on my wellbeing, which was a thoughtful gesture and greatly appreciated.

Reception staff were dismissive and unhelpful

I was recently removed from the patient register. I had received a letter requesting an appointment with a nurse and needed to deliver an urgent letter from an optician, as well as review my medical notes. During my visit, the receptionist questioned my lack of contact phone numbers, suggesting this was inconvenient and questioning how the practice could reach me, despite me holding their own letter. I also inquired why I couldn't book the appointment through the online system, explaining that I had struggled to use it previously. After about ten minutes, as I was becoming physically tired, I decided to abandon the appointment attempt and sat down to read my notes instead. The receptionist then raised her voice across the room, objecting to how I was speaking to her. Feeling unwell, I questioned whether I was being removed from the register, and she indicated that she would attempt to have this done. At that point, I became upset, approached the desk, and threw the paperwork down. I was then asked to leave the building, which I did. I acknowledge that my behaviour was not appropriate, but it appears the receptionist followed through on what she had said, and I have since been struck off. I have not pursued registering elsewhere, as I believe this issue will remain with me indefinitely. I am no longer able to access my regular medications. I would strongly advise others to consider alternative practices, as this one does not appear to operate responsibly. It is unfortunate that only positive ratings appear to be accepted. Subsequently, I have lost access to essential medications and have been unable to receive responses to important administrative requests that may affect my financial entitlements. I am now considering legal action as a last resort, though this is not my preferred outcome. The practice has provided no direct way to address these concerns and will not publish this review on their website, citing policy reasons.
