Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reveals significant challenges with appointment access and booking systems, which dominate concerns across the file. Telephone lines experience persistent congestion, particularly at 8am, with callers frequently disconnected or left waiting in lengthy queues. The online booking and triage systems are frequently reported as non-functional or overwhelmed, leaving patients unable to schedule consultations through either method. Appointment availability remains severely limited, with waits extending to several weeks for phone consultations and face-to-face visits often unavailable. Reception responsiveness varies considerably, with some patients reporting helpful and courteous interactions whilst others describe dismissive or unhelpful attitudes.

Despite these systemic access difficulties, positive feedback highlights the quality of clinical care when appointments are secured. Patients consistently praise individual healthcare professionals for their compassion, professionalism, and thorough explanations. The practice environment is noted as clean and well-maintained. Several patients acknowledge that staff members have demonstrated genuine helpfulness and supportive communication during consultations and procedures.

The contrast between access barriers and care quality suggests that organisational and administrative processes require urgent attention. Patients express frustration that booking infrastructure fails to match the competence of clinical staff, and that communication about appointment status or system issues is often absent. The combination of difficult access, extended waiting periods, and inconsistent reception experiences has prompted some long-term patients to seek alternative healthcare providers.

Felt Completely Abandoned During My Darkest Time

I attempted to share my deep personal challenges—unemployment, a relationship collapse, and the loss of my mother—only to be dismissed with a brief, perfunctory phone conversation and yet another digital form to complete. My sole desire was to connect with a compassionate professional, and it's no mystery why suicide rates among men in my demographic are escalating when genuine attempts to seek help are met with such callous indifference.

Morning Struggle to Book an Appointment

The Royton Health and Wellbeing Centre is showing improvement, but their appointment booking method needs reconsideration. They've suggested contacting them through social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, yet many people, especially older individuals, don't use these channels. This approach leaves patients like myself wondering how we're supposed to schedule appointments. I simply want a straightforward way to book a consultation without navigating complex forms, which other medical practices manage to do without such barriers.

Frustrating Prescription Runaround at the Surgery

I contacted the reception to follow up on a missing prescription. The receptionist directed me to call the surgery again using option 1 for the prescription department, and then instructed me to ring back to the patient advisor line to schedule a nurse appointment. Medical practices need to recognize that when patients reach out, they should take responsibility for the issue, resolve it, and proactively follow up. Patients should not be burdened with tracking down prescriptions that cannot be fulfilled or forced to make multiple calls to the surgery. Handling these administrative tasks is the clinic's responsibility, not the patient's.

Lynn at reception made my day

This medical practice is absolutely exceptional. They have been providing outstanding care for my mother for three years. The entire staff is courteous, compassionate, and highly skilled. Lynn at the front desk is particularly wonderful and is an invaluable member of the team.

Rude Doctor and Terrible Triage System

The appointment scheduling process is completely dysfunctional and frustrating. While some of the front desk staff are genuinely pleasant, others display a shocking lack of interpersonal skills and compassion - they desperately require training in basic communication and empathy. Dr. Vance is particularly egregious, being an incredibly dismissive and insensitive physician who comes across as thoroughly unprofessional. His bedside manner is so abysmal that even my elderly patients refuse to consider seeing him.

Triage Roulette at 8 Am Clinic

Accessing medical assistance at this centre appears entirely dependent on successfully navigating an online triage questionnaire. But even attempting to complete the form involves another convoluted waiting mechanism. Your opportunity for help hinges on being nimble with typing between 08:00 & 08:30, or submitting before the centre decides they've collected sufficient applications for the day. When I inquired about alternatives for those unable to rapidly complete the digital form, their suggestion was to either call 111 or visit the pharmacy for potential support. Surely this approach to healthcare access cannot be considered acceptable or reasonable?

Compassionate Family Health Centre Saved Me

This healthcare facility is truly exceptional, with an atmosphere of genuine warmth and empathy radiating from every staff member and physician. I'm incredibly grateful that I selected this medical practice. A close relative enthusiastically suggested I come here, and now I completely understand why. I want to express my deepest appreciation for the outstanding support and exceptional treatment I've received.

Endless Wait and Broken Triage Form Nightmare

This medical practice is absolutely dreadful! I wasted an entire hour on the phone only to be told to complete a triage form, which could have been communicated much earlier. The triage link is perpetually non-functional, and their phone queue consistently exceeds 30 people. Even worse, whenever I get close to being next in line, the call mysteriously drops. It's clear they have zero regard for patients and are completely uninterested in improving their broken system. When I visited in person to explain my need for a doctor's appointment, the staff member rudely just repeated "fill in the triage form" with an incredibly dismissive attitude. The entire experience is infuriating! I've been attempting to submit the triage form since 8 am using both my phone and laptop, and it still hasn't worked while I remain on hold with over 30 people ahead of me. If I could describe this practice in one word, it would be: ridiculous!

Endless Queue, No Appointments at 8am

The healthcare system at this GP practice is completely inadequate. Attempting to book an appointment is a nightmarish experience where calling at 8am means you're 30th in line, forcing you to wait endlessly. After suffering through over an hour on hold, you're ultimately informed no appointments are available - how is this supporting patient needs? The online triage system is equally useless. It's overwhelmed and non-functional within minutes of opening, effectively preventing patients from accessing medical care. Patients have zero chance of securing a face-to-face consultation. Frustrated, I sought advice from my local pharmacist who confirmed my condition and suggested obtaining medication through a GP prescription. However, when following this advice, the receptionist insisted I complete an online triage form - which, as mentioned, is entirely pointless. While patients are consistently advised to avoid A&E and consult pharmacies, these recommendations are hypocritically ignored by the practice. It's no wonder emergency departments are overwhelmed, with patients waiting for hours in corridors. This week, I received an online health check link, which predictably doesn't function and directs users to phone the already dysfunctional practice. I cannot comprehend how they consider this an acceptable patient care model. What are GPs actually doing? They certainly aren't seeing or caring for patients. Patient care here has completely disintegrated. This system is fundamentally BROKEN and NOT fit for purpose. Urgent changes are desperately needed. I would gladly give zero stars, but being limited to one, I reluctantly assign that single star.
