Felt unheard when sharing serious concerns

I attended an appointment and discussed my concerns in detail, expressing that I was considering self-harm. I felt this serious statement was not adequately acknowledged or acted upon. Subsequently, I did attempt self-harm and required hospitalisation for five days. This has resulted in significant organ damage, and my health markers remain elevated. I have been advised that further medical intervention and potentially more serious treatment may be necessary depending on whether my condition improves. I believe the clinician relied too heavily on my historical medical records rather than recognising that my circumstances and mindset had genuinely improved. I felt that my progress and positive changes, which I had made for the benefit of my family and those around me, were not properly recognised or considered during the consultation.

Communication feels impersonal, and there is a tendency to focus on isolated health concerns rather than recognising how different issues may be interconnected. I was disappointed overall. Having previously worked in related healthcare settings, I experienced a notably different standard of care and engagement. My visit did not leave me feeling satisfied or supported.

Calling for help and support results in receiving medical guidance from reception staff that seems beyond their scope of training. The customer service experience was disappointing, and public relations could be significantly improved. It appears the practice benefits from having limited competition in the local area.
