Fantastic medical care for students during summer break

I'm currently studying at university and have temporarily registered at this clinic while back for the summer. Dr Taylor Barnard and the entire medical practice were absolutely fantastic - I wasn't feeling great, and they quickly addressed my health concerns with incredible efficiency. Much appreciation! Additionally, I've consulted Dr Patel on several occasions, and he was equally wonderful.

Friendly doctors and quick appointments at shay lane

Since moving to the neighborhood last year, I've signed up my family with Shay Lane Medical Centre, and I'm pleased with their service. Whenever I've needed medical advice for myself or my children, their phone system has been efficient. I never find myself stuck on hold for extended periods. The receptionists are helpful and typically arrange a same-day telephone consultation with a doctor, who will recommend an in-person visit if necessary. I've had the pleasure of consulting with Dr Taylor-Bernard and Dr Barnes, both of whom have been exceptional healthcare professionals. I appreciate the quality of care they provide.

Mixed reviews but great personal experience

I perused the reviews and found them quite puzzling! It appears there are 2 GP practices operating from this location. I'm guessing 1 is exceptional (receiving top-tier ratings) while the other might need some enhancement? From my personal experience, I've always considered myself fortunate to be registered with Drs Kelman, Cranston and Naylor. Dr Naylor (now retired) was particularly outstanding and truly the finest GP I've encountered. Although I'm blessed with good health and don't frequently require medical services, the reception team at this practice have consistently been compassionate and supportive, frequently managing to schedule same-day consultations. During the pandemic, I utilized their online service. It was phenomenal - I received my medication within just 1 hour of reporting my issue.

Worst medical experience ever nightmare of incompetence

The front desk personnel are utterly insufferable and blatantly dishonest, as my wife and I can personally attest. In my wife's situation, they were so callous that they brought her to tears. The physicians appear incredibly apathetic, consistently preferring to redirect patients elsewhere without conducting even a basic examination or offering their professional opinion. If the rating system allowed negative stars, I would use them. Their antiquated procedures and arrogant staff create a perfect storm of incompetence. Their go-to justification is always that the NHS is overloaded. These doctors are essentially nothing more than glorified administrative assistants, and that's being generous. Steer clear of this place.

Frustrating registration process at local medical center

I'm thoroughly frustrated with the administrative team. Upon relocating to this area, I was forced to complete the registration and health questionnaire forms twice because the staff couldn't process my initial submission correctly. After waiting three months, I attempted to schedule an appointment, only to be informed that I'm still not registered - despite the rest of my family being successfully added to their system! The doctors themselves are excellent, and if the administrative staff received proper training, this medical practice could truly be outstanding.

I've been a patient at this medical practice for three decades. Dr Patel's keen diagnostic skills identified an uncommon medical issue in my father that was potentially life-saving. Similarly, his swift intervention for my mother extended her life by nearly two decades. He provided crucial emotional support to my mum following the loss of my sister. Throughout my life, he has been an exceptional healthcare provider - medically guiding me through two pregnancies and treating various minor health issues, and emotionally supporting me during a challenging marriage breakdown and work-related stress. He even assisted me with documentation and medical assessments for fostering. The reception staff, while clearly managing a busy environment, consistently demonstrate politeness and helpfulness. I've never experienced difficulties securing appointments, particularly for urgent medical needs.

Frustrating experience with unhelpful medical admin staff

Doctors are excellent. However, the administrative staff desperately need training in customer service and interpersonal communication. Dr. Barnes prescribed me a week's course of antibiotics and requested a follow-up. I've been attempting to contact the office since last Thursday without success. Frustrated, I drove to the surgery this morning and caught someone entering through locked doors since the external bell isn't functioning. When I finally got someone's attention, their first response was to ask about an appointment. I explained the irony - how can I schedule an appointment when their answering machine instructs patients not to contact the GP directly, yet they never answer the phone? As a taxpayer contributing 50% of my earnings, if I managed my business with such unprofessional attitude, I would quickly go bankrupt. They dismissively told me the doctor would call later, treating me like a second-class citizen. It appears they are more focused on the £12.58 government payment for COVID vaccinations than providing comprehensive patient care.

Dr. Patel's Shocking Lack of Compassion

Dr. Patel is an absolute embarrassment to the medical field. It's unconscionable that he would dismiss a long-standing patient who has been with his practice for six decades, especially after she reported a head injury and ongoing symptoms. When she explained her collapse and persistent headaches, his callous response was simply, "I have to go, I have other patients!" He demonstrated zero empathy, concern, or professional responsibility. His complete lack of basic human compassion is beyond reprehensible. He should be thoroughly ashamed of his conduct, though I doubt he has the capacity for such self-reflection. The single star in this review is solely reserved for Dr. Taylor-Bernard, as Dr. Patel deserves nothing but contempt.
