Incredible healthcare experience beyond my wildest expectations
T Stars falls short of capturing how exceptional Southmead truly is - they're absolutely top-tier. Let me illustrate: on May 8th, while at Wexham, a nurse noticed an oedema on my leg and suggested seeing a doctor. I snapped a photo, sought online advice around 1:25pm, and remarkably received a call by 2:15pm for a 2:40pm same-day appointment. The doctor provided a comprehensive diagnosis and prescription, all within an incredible 75 minutes... now that is PHENOMENAL. Having been a patient here for over three decades, I'm continually amazed by their consistently phenomenal staff. A massive WELL DONE to every single one of you!

The receptionist, Donna Llewellyn, comes across as incredibly patronizing! When seeking assistance, one expects support, not condescension. The ACT (Advanced Clinical Technician) also displays a rather harsh demeanor. During one visit, I endured a 45-minute wait to see him. After he addressed my initial concern, I simply requested a quick glance at a mole that had previously been examined at the surgery. He dismissively suggested I could have any future medical professional take a look without scheduling an appointment. However, when I brought this up with ACT Mike, he flatly refused, insisting I make another separate appointment—despite my having already waited an extended period to see him.

Frustrating medical service with unhelpful reception staff
I'm reluctant to post negative feedback, but I feel compelled to share my experience. Seeking a doctor's appointment after a long hiatus, I was utterly dismayed by the service and bureaucratic process. When I phoned reception at 8:30am, the receptionist's demeanor was, candidly, dismissive and condescending, simply instructing me to use an app. I have no desire to navigate an app, and I questioned the receptionist's purpose if not to provide actual assistance. Having worked continuously since age 16 and contributed national insurance, I expect a straightforward, respectful process for booking a GP appointment. After enduring a seemingly pointless interrogation of questions, I was told someone would call back—which never happened. Instead, I received a link displaying my previous responses and an invitation to book a time slot. This unnecessary bureaucratic maze for what should be a simple task is infuriating. The MyGP app is equally frustrating; attempting to book an appointment only offers an option to call the surgery directly. As a result, I am actively seeking a new medical practice. Southmead's service is disappointingly subpar.

I'm thoroughly impressed with the care provided by Southmead Surgery. Overall, I've found the staff to be consistently warm, competent, and supportive - though there are occasional moments of brevity in conversation, which I understand given my own past experience working with the public. Since the birth of our daughter a few weeks ago, we've been more frequently engaging with the practice and want to specifically praise the team - Dr Hirani and Jenny at reception have been particularly outstanding. My two constructive observations would be: 1) In my younger years, I recall always seeing the same GP, which created a sense of continuous care. That personal connection seems absent now (I acknowledge this might sound like typical generational grumbling, but it's genuinely felt) - though this isn't unique to this specific surgery. 2) The appointment booking process is equally frustrating and not limited to this practice. With a newborn who often disrupts our sleep until dawn, attempting to secure an appointment by queuing at 8:30am is challenging. I'm convinced more efficient booking methods exist, and I remember when advance appointments were standard. While I recognize this likely stems from widespread NHS funding challenges, it's worth highlighting.

Great local surgery with caring staff
I've been a patient at Southmead surgery for more than four years, and I couldn't be more satisfied. The front desk team is incredibly supportive and consistently maintain a positive, upbeat attitude. When it comes to my young children's baby vaccinations, the nursing staff have demonstrated remarkable patience and compassion. As for the doctors, they are truly exceptional!
