Recently relocated from Brentwood to Romford and signed up with St. Edwards Medical Centre through the NHS online portal. I'm now feeling quite apprehensive about my choice! The technology for check-in appears significantly outdated compared to my previous GP surgery in Brentwood. The waiting area is expansive yet oddly sparse, with minimal seating available. I was taken aback to witness someone experiencing a personal crisis being attended to in a completely open, public space - where's the discretion? The reception staff seem remarkably indifferent to patient comfort and confidentiality. As a healthcare professional myself, I don't make these observations lightly.

Terrible health care that crushes patient's spirit

Dealing with the reception staff at this medical practice is a deeply demoralizing experience. Having to disclose sensitive health concerns to an indifferent and dismissive receptionist who seems to doubt the legitimacy of your medical emergency is incredibly distressing. The complete lack of human compassion makes me feel so defeated that I'd almost prefer not to seek medical help at all. Even if you manage to secure an appointment, be prepared for a rushed and impersonal encounter where you're made to feel like an inconvenience. My interactions with this surgery are infrequent because scheduling an appointment is an exercise in futility. Calling often results in waiting days or weeks, which ultimately leads me to abandon my attempts to seek care. While I understand these systemic issues might be beyond the practice's direct control, their approach feels overwhelmingly cold and detached. In moments of personal vulnerability, their approach seems designed to amplify one's sense of isolation and distress. As for actually seeing a doctor, that seems about as likely as winning a major lottery - a near-impossible feat.

Painless injection and caring staff at medical centre

I am disheartened to learn that numerous individuals seem to have encountered negative experiences at this centre. Having been registered here for over three decades, since their time on Mawney Road, I have consistently found them to be courteous and supportive whenever I needed assistance. My most recent visit was just today, 7 April 2025. Dealing with shoulder issues, I consulted Dr Hossain, who arranged physiotherapy and scans. Eventually, it was determined that an injection by Dr Kuller was necessary. A few days later, I visited reception to inquire about the injection's progress. The receptionist was incredibly kind, explaining she couldn't book the appointment directly but would inform her colleague, who promptly resolved the matter and called me within hours to confirm today's appointment. I've always found the receptionists remarkably helpful, especially considering their demanding and relentless workload. Today, Dr Kuller administered the injection with exceptional warmth and friendliness. His ability to make patients feel comfortable is remarkable, and the injection was completely painless. This was my second such injection from Dr Kuller - previously treating my other shoulder with identical, pain-free precision. Many had warned me about the typically uncomfortable nature of steroid/cortisone injections, but I was pleasantly surprised both times. During today's visit, Dr Kuller explained the technique: finding the exact needle insertion point and moving swiftly to minimize discomfort, noting that prolonged searching causes most patients' pain. I'd also like to emphasize my thirty-year relationship with Dr Hossain, who has consistently been exceptional and thorough. Dr Darmar is equally outstanding. While I recognize the surgery's perpetual busyness can delay problem-solving and appointment scheduling, this actually demonstrates their impressive commitment. Despite overwhelming demands, they continue to perform admirably.

I've been a patient at this practice for over a quarter-century. The physicians are competent, but the front desk personnel are absolutely dreadful. They consistently display rudeness both on the telephone and in face-to-face interactions. During my recent visit, they misplaced my paperwork, and the receptionist brazenly claimed it was my fault for not submitting it to a specific staff member, despite another receptionist having initially accepted the documents. These front desk employees are systematically undermining the medical practice's professional standing. My father was informed he must wait an entire week for critical blood thinners and heart medication due to their supposed busyness. This is completely unacceptable. While patients are on hold, I've overheard the staff members gossiping and speaking disrespectfully about those same patients. Urgent action must be taken to address these serious issues.

Frustrating admin ruins otherwise good medical practice

I had been a patient at this surgery since 1984 but departed in February 2025. The doctors are excellent, but the administrative backend is seriously subpar. I tolerated this because I could always secure an appointment with my preferred physician with whom I had a good rapport. A persistent frustration was the practice's inflexibility regarding early repeat prescription orders (such as when planning travel), which nearly resulted in me running out of medication multiple times. My designated pharmacy also confirmed this was a recurring issue when attempting to process repeat prescriptions on my behalf. The final breaking point occurred after several weeks of online attempts to secure an appointment with my preferred GP. My excitement was abruptly crushed when I received a text the evening before cancelling my appointment. There was no apology, just a directive to contact them to reschedule. Upon doing so, I was informed there was no availability and was advised to try booking online again. I've now transferred to another local surgery, and it's wonderfully refreshing to be able to order repeat medications without rigid date restrictions. It's truly disappointing that poor administrative management has ultimately driven me away.

Rude receptionist spoils long-standing medical practice reputation

I stopped by the medical office shortly before 1pm today to retrieve a copy of my blood test results that had been emailed to me. After some difficulty, the receptionist finally printed the document, grumbling about computer issues. Her demeanor was unfriendly and she seemed irritable. Having been a patient at this practice since 1968, I have consistently experienced courteous treatment and helpful staff. It's unfortunate that this particular receptionist has tarnished the practice's otherwise excellent reputation. The doctors have always provided exceptional care for myself and my family, demonstrating their commitment to our health. I hold them in the highest regard and am deeply appreciative of their dedicated service.

Terrible service and unprofessional medical practice

The personnel here display a distinct lack of compassion and professionalism. The medical practice's management is in complete disarray, with supervisors who seem woefully unqualified and incapable of performing their designated responsibilities. Their communication is abysmal, except when it comes to inappropriately discussing patients within earshot of the reception area - a breach of basic confidentiality that is utterly unacceptable!!! To be fair, there are a few dedicated staff members who genuinely attempt to provide decent service. It's evident that the practice would significantly improve by reassigning leadership roles to more competent, thoroughly trained employees. The constant staff turnover is hardly shocking, given the prevalence of discourteous and ill-mannered employees.

Worst gp experience with rude and unprofessional staff

This GP is an absolute nightmare. The receptionist acts like the practice is her personal domain and treats patients with extreme rudeness. The staff seem completely clueless about what's happening within the practice. During my initial profile registration, they didn't even verify my address and directed me to register elsewhere (an online process I now deeply regret). A few days ago, my wife and I arrived for a scheduled morning appointment. Upon arrival, we were told to wait. After an hour, we inquired again and were still asked to wait. Following a grueling 2.15-hour wait, they informed us the doctor hadn't arrived and suggested returning in another 2 hours, which provoked immense frustration and anger. Being NHS workers, we restrained our emotions and reluctantly booked another appointment for the next day. A week has passed since this incident, and they haven't provided either a telephone or face-to-face appointment. It's undoubtedly the worst GP I've ever encountered. Therefore, I strongly advise everyone to seek an alternative GP. I am absolutely certain that any other practice would be significantly better than this one.

Getting an appointment here is incredibly challenging, regardless of how critical your medical situation might be. While I recognize the receptionists are meant to serve as care navigators who should guide patients effectively, they seem poorly trained and lack understanding of how serious misinformation can be. They appear oblivious to the potential consequences of preventing patients from accessing or continuing essential medications. The care navigation system desperately needs substantial enhancement. Once you actually manage to see the doctors, they are truly exceptional and thoroughly address your health concerns. However, the initial hurdle of securing an appointment is extremely frustrating.

Terrible reception staff ruined my medical experience

This review focuses solely on the reception experience! I haven't attended the appointment yet. The reception staff urgently require some professional training. Their manners are completely unacceptable. They seem solely interested in answering phone calls, informing you that no appointment is available today, and then abruptly ending the conversation. Their attitude is extremely off-putting, making patients feel like they're inconveniencing the staff rather than the staff performing their professional duties. I believe it's time to search for a new general practitioner.

Unprofessional doctor left me in severe pain

Today I went to my appointment after enduring three days of sleeplessness, inability to eat, and excruciating tooth pain from an infection. I simply requested antibiotics. After waiting 30 minutes past my scheduled time, a female doctor with inappropriate attire and excessive makeup dismissed me coldly, saying "sorry I can't help you go to dentist" with zero compassion. I am utterly devastated and frustrated. WHERE ARE THE QUALIFIED MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS? Is this really 2024 in Great Britain? I'm astounded by such unprofessional treatment. I would rather suffer at home than ever return to this GP practice. The standard of healthcare is unacceptable, and I am completely let down by this experience.
