Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reveals a significantly divided experience at this practice, with marked contrasts between reception and clinical services. Appointment access and booking experience emerge as persistent concerns, with patients reporting extended waiting periods ranging from weeks to months, difficulty reaching the practice by phone, and reception staff described as unhelpful, dismissive, and discourteous. Communication failures are evident across multiple reviews, including delayed follow-ups, inadequate care coordination, and instances where patients felt their concerns were not properly addressed. However, physicians receive consistent praise for professionalism, compassion, and thorough explanations, with several patients expressing gratitude for attentive and empathetic care.

The reception experience represents the most problematic service area, with numerous accounts of staff displaying lack of respect, impatience, and unprofessional conduct during phone interactions and in-person visits. Patients describe feeling interrogated about appointment needs and report instances of calls being terminated abruptly. In contrast, positive feedback highlights courteous reception staff, efficient service, and responsive communication in some cases, suggesting inconsistency across different interactions and team members.

While clinical care quality is generally viewed favourably, with patients appreciating professional physicians and supportive teams, systemic issues around appointment availability, phone responsiveness, and reception courtesy significantly undermine overall confidence in the service. Some patients report long-standing satisfaction spanning decades, yet others have chosen to change practices due to access and communication difficulties.

Terrible service at newton heath medical centre

I recently joined this practice, and Chantelle, the young receptionist, greeted me with exceptional courtesy and professionalism. I'm thankful they agreed to take me on as a patient. However, I'm so unimpressed with their service that I wouldn't even consider registering my dog at the Newton Heath location 🤔

Confused patient seeks help with medical transfer

I've been with this medical practice for a while, and despite living right next door, they've informed me that I'm no longer their patient and have transferred me to the Glossop clinic. I urgently need my prescription. Is there any way I can resolve this situation?

Dangerous doctor fails to provide basic patient care

Such an utterly reprehensible approach that demands total restructuring. Numerous instances of family members receiving substandard care have come to light, and merely mentioning Dr Northfield's name triggers my intense anger. He demonstrates a complete lack of concern for his patients. His conduct appears recklessly negligent and profoundly incompetent, posing a significant threat to human safety. I am seriously considering filing an official complaint with the intention of having him either professionally disbarred or at minimum removed from this medical facility. I encourage other individuals who have experienced unsatisfactory treatment to either endorse this critique or share additional testimonials to generate momentum for a formal grievance process.

Terrible service from rude receptionist shirley

The receptionist Shirley consistently displays an appalling demeanor that lacks any semblance of professionalism. Her complete disregard for customer interaction is shocking, and her abysmal customer service skills are truly unacceptable. In my view, she is entirely unsuitable for her role and should be immediately terminated from her position.

Terrible service and unprofessional medical staff

The staff is absolutely terrible and incredibly discourteous. I waited from 8 am to 8:22 am before someone at reception finally responded. The receptionist was extremely unhelpful and dismissive, despite me being first in the queue. She bluntly stated they have no emergency appointments and are completely booked. This is the third time such an unacceptable situation has occurred, and we desperately need to find a different medical practice.

Terrible reception ruins potential quality healthcare experience

The reception staff are absolutely terrible, displaying an incredibly condescending and patronizing attitude, speaking as if they're medical experts and dispensing prescriptions over the telephone. I called at 8:30 seeking an urgent appointment and was offered a 5 o'clock slot or advised to travel to a walk-in centre 8 miles away, despite living just a minute from the surgery. While the doctors themselves are acceptable, the reception staff operate like strict security guards, preventing patient access or directing people to the pharmacy without proper medical assessment. I was prescribed antibiotics without any physical examination, blood test, swabs, or urine test - purely based on what the receptionist relayed to the doctors, as if they were speaking on my behalf. I was absolutely furious. Your patient care approach desperately needs a complete overhaul.

Terrible medical centre with rude and unhelpful staff

The receptionist with glasses was extremely discourteous. When I requested to speak with a manager, she claimed the manager wouldn't be available until after 9 o'clock, and when I asked about seeing a doctor, she flatly refused. Ironically, just moments later at 8:25, manager Carol emerged from the back room. I explained my ongoing monthly medical issue, but she immediately began criticizing me for taking "too many" tablets. She insisted I was overmedicated, despite each tablet being clearly labeled with a specific day. After a frustrating discussion, I gave up, leaving my prescription on the desk and walking out. Now I'm without my medication until I can register with another medical center. I'm genuinely concerned about my critically high blood pressure readings of 220/112, 210/98, and 200/109 over the past three days. This place absolutely does not deserve even a single star! To anyone wanting to avoid stress, I strongly advise choosing a different medical center. I sincerely hope the NHS investigates this situation, and I'm committed to pursuing action. This was hands-down the WORST healthcare experience ever! The staff is completely unhelpful, and the receptionist blatantly lies directly to patients' faces. Absolutely POOR SERVICE!

Terrible customer service at medical practice

The front desk personnel are incredibly discourteous and lacking in professionalism. Despite being first in line for scheduling an appointment, the receptionist who answered my call claimed their computer systems were down and instructed me to redial, citing other patients waiting (even though I was also seeking an appointment!). She abruptly ended the call, which subsequently pushed me back to position 18 in the queue, resulting in a waiting time exceeding 25 minutes. Moreover, the reception staff interrogate patients as if conducting a comprehensive investigation when inquiring about appointment needs. I've contemplated changing medical practices for an extended period, and I've now made the switch - only regretful that I didn't do so much earlier.

Compassionate doctor who truly cares for his patients

Our family has been patients at this medical practice for quite some time. Dr. Gregg serves as our primary care physician. He is an exceptional doctor and an incredibly compassionate, understanding individual who consistently maintains a professional demeanor while demonstrating genuine empathy. He ensures comprehensive, continuous healthcare for our entire family. Throughout the years, whenever Dr. Gregg has had any concerns about my own, my children's, or my husband's health, he has promptly and without hesitation arranged specialist referrals, diagnostic scans, x-rays, or additional medical investigations as needed. I wholeheartedly endorse Dr. Gregg and strongly recommend him to anyone seeking a dedicated and caring healthcare provider.

Unprofessional doctor misunderstands my long-standing epilepsy

Living with epilepsy for a decade and a half, I recently experienced an intense seizure that prompted a specialist referral. My general practitioner scheduled a consultation to discuss the details, but the encounter was frustrating. Despite my long-standing medical history, the physician seemed completely unaware, stating, "We suspect you might have epilepsy" - a statement that made it evident she hadn't even reviewed my records. To make matters worse, she took it upon herself to increase my medication dosage without any guidance or authorization from the epileptologist.

Negligent doctor led to tragic loss of my mother

I have zero words to adequately express my frustration with this medical center. My mother saw Dr. Northfield, a general practitioner who continues to practice here, and her experience was devastating. Twenty years ago, she sought help for severe back pain and significant weight loss, and his response was dismissive - claiming she simply wasn't eating and had poor appetite. He ignored her symptoms for months, conducting no diagnostic tests whatsoever. Dissatisfied with his negligence, my mother eventually went to the hospital, where a nurse immediately recognized something was seriously wrong - something Dr. Northfield had repeatedly missed. The nurse quickly referred her to a specialist who discovered she had a rare blood cancer, but tragically, it had already progressed too far. She managed only one chemotherapy treatment, which only caused her hair to fall out and made her ill before she passed away. Had Dr. Northfield identified her condition earlier, she might still be alive today. The thought of this fills me with profound sorrow and anger. I am appalled that he continues practicing as a GP, and I implore everyone: avoid this doctor and this practice at all costs. His medical incompetence is absolutely shocking.

Terrible medical care and horrible receptionist service

This medical practice is an absolute disaster. The front desk staff are incredibly frustrating - totally ineffective, obstructive, unprofessional, and displaying an arrogant indifference towards any patient concerns or questions. The doctors themselves are merely passable. I strongly advise against choosing this surgery if you want quality care, as you'll be thoroughly disappointed. If possible, I'd rate them negative a thousand stars and cannot comprehend how they've escaped proper professional scrutiny. The entire operation is essentially a complete farce. They desperately require frequent and rigorous oversight since they seemingly invent protocols randomly and protect each other when errors occur. Their reputation has become so toxic that every single person I know who uses this practice shares identical criticisms. It's a complete organizational failure.

Terrible reception ruins good medical practice

Our family is registered at this practice. I bring my elderly mother here for her medical appointments. The physicians we've encountered are adequate, but the appointment scheduler is completely unacceptable! I'm not referring to the younger staff. She has this older, gravelly-voiced demeanor when on the phone. If I didn't care about my mother and family, I would be absolutely furious! She's inconsiderate, lacks understanding of patients' situations, and is flat-out rude, to put it mildly. Why would anyone hire someone with such a lack of compassion? Update: As of 27/03/2018... ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE SERVICE from the RECEPTION STAFF!!! DESPERATELY NEED to train your employees in patient care and basic manners!! They are shockingly unprofessional and abrupt. They're probably reading this review and mockingly laughing!! :-( while my family continues to suffer health challenges! Their attitudes are repulsive and they're rudely dismissive without any attempt to understand. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE STAFF!!!
