Patient Experience Summary

Feedback on this practice reveals a deeply polarised patient experience. Positive reviews consistently praise compassionate medical staff, supportive nursing teams, and efficient service delivery, with particular appreciation for prompt attention and genuine patient care. However, these positive experiences are substantially outweighed by widespread concerns about appointment access, with patients reporting waiting periods of six to eight weeks or longer. Phone line accessibility emerges as a persistent problem, with callers experiencing long hold times, frequent disconnections, and unresponsive systems that discourage contact.

Reception experience represents a significant area of concern, with multiple patients describing staff as dismissive, rude, and unhelpful. Communication failures extend beyond the reception desk to broader practice operations, including inadequate follow-up on test results, medication management issues, and poor continuity of care. Several patients note that frequent GP changes—sometimes four or more within a short period—prevent meaningful therapeutic relationships and require repeated explanations of medical history during rushed consultations. Privacy concerns are also raised, with patients reporting that personal medical information is discussed openly in waiting areas.

The practice appears to have experienced notable service decline, with long-standing patients expressing particular disappointment at deterioration from previously higher standards. While some patients report positive experiences with specific medical professionals and after-hours services, the overall pattern suggests systemic challenges in appointment availability, reception courtesy, communication responsiveness, and continuity that significantly impact patient confidence in the service.

Found my dream gp near home

I'm utterly overwhelmed by how fortunate I am to be registered with this medical practice. The staff are phenomenally compassionate, considerate, and efficient. Truly exceptional. The sole drawback is that I'm now completely committed to staying in this area because I could never find a better healthcare team! 😂

Worst gp surgery with zero patient care

A persistent unwillingness to hear the patient out or even glance at past medical records. This is accompanied by an astounding (and completely undeserved!) sense of superiority when challenged. Given my comprehensive medical background, this practice is unequivocally the most disappointing primary care facility I have ever experienced.

Rude staff and endless wait times

Regrettably, this medical practice has significantly declined in quality. The problem extends beyond the challenge of scheduling appointments. Their treatment of patients is appalling. During one visit, I spent considerable time in the waiting area, witnessing staff behavior that was shockingly unprofessional. Their interactions, both on the phone and with in-person patients, were marked by an astonishing level of rudeness, hostility, and dismissiveness. The staff's demeanor was consistently unhelpful and disrespectful. This is undeniably a dysfunctional medical practice.

Caring staff at our local practice

Exceptional medical practice with outstanding service from every staff member - receptionists, healthcare assistants, nurses, and doctors. They consistently demonstrate helpfulness, compassion, and a commitment that goes beyond expectations. Dr Bossano stands out as especially wonderful. I'm perplexed by any negative feedback, as these professionals are truly exceptional and dedicated. My sincere hope is that patients will recognize and value the incredible work they do for our national health service.

Caring support from Dr Bossano's team

I've been a patient at St. Leonards practice for the past six years. Recently, when I encountered some health challenges, I found myself frequently interacting with their reception staff, nurses, and my GP. I cannot praise them enough. Their communication is prompt and efficient, and the nursing team and my doctor (Dr. Bossano) were exceptionally supportive. I was made to feel genuinely cared for, both professionally and with a personal touch. They are delivering outstanding service despite the current complex healthcare environment. My sincere appreciation goes out to the entire team!

Closed surgery left me completely frustrated

I attempted to reach St Leonard's Practice today, only to discover the surgery was shuttered for staff training and their e-consult system was non-functional. After being shuffled to an answering service, the representative unhelpfully suggested using e-consult when I explicitly stated it was down. They then advised me to call 111, who in turn told me to contact my GP. What a complete organizational disaster. The quality of service has dramatically deteriorated since Dr. Evans' departure. Truly disappointing!

Impossible to get a doctor's appointment

Absolutely dreadful service, impossible to secure an appointment when other medical practices are readily available. They clearly have no concern for their patients, prioritizing remote consultations over in-person care. My mother has been waiting to see a physiotherapist, and they abruptly cancelled her appointment, leaving her without treatment for several weeks. She's now given up calling the surgery entirely, knowing full well she'll be met with nothing but obstacles. I called today, and once again, she was informed that only a phone consultation is possible, and even then, these promised calls never materialize.

Worst medical care in 50 years

For half a century as a patient, I've never encountered problems like this before, but the new general practitioner and current administrative staff urgently need to reassess the quality of their service. It's absolutely unacceptable. Their excuse of being overwhelmed is weak—everyone is busy these days. It's high time doctors returned to genuinely caring for their patients and providing the level of medical attention they're supposed to deliver.

Dr. Ogilvie saved me during tough times

I've been a patient at St. Leonard's since its time on Denmark Road. After moving across the river and registering elsewhere, I returned to Whipton and re-registered with this practice around November 2019, during a period when I was extremely unwell and subsequently hospitalized. Dr. Ogilvie is truly exceptional. I've consistently been able to secure appointments with him promptly, and his genuine commitment to patient care is refreshingly rare in today's medical landscape. In contrast, Dr. Bossano could certainly learn from Dr. Ogilvie's approach. The sole significant drawback of this surgery is Maureen at reception. Every member of my family registered here has encountered issues with her at some point. While the remaining front desk staff are wonderfully kind, considerate, efficient, and genuinely helpful, Maureen stands out negatively. Her demeanor is consistently rude, abrasive, and unhelpful. Her conduct has been so problematic that I've formally documented a written complaint to the Practice Manager - something I'm not typically inclined to do, but her unprofessional behavior warranted direct intervention. Aside from this one issue, this remains an outstanding medical practice with an excellent team. I'm absolutely committed to staying here!!

Chest pain but no covid symptoms

I had a frustrating experience at this medical practice, particularly with Dr. Bullock, who seems to disregard official COVID-19 guidance. I sought an appointment due to chest pain during deep breathing, without having fever, cough, or elevated temperature. However, the receptionist and Dr. Bullock insisted on pushing me to take a PCR test, despite me not displaying any standard COVID symptoms outlined in official health guidelines. Dr. Bullock refused to see me that day, which I found extremely disrespectful and inappropriate. The treatment I received was unacceptable - it feels like they assume everyone has COVID, which is highly unprofessional. I even included a screenshot from the NHS website demonstrating that I did not meet testing criteria. I sincerely hope the practice's management addresses these issues and recognizes the poor quality of care, which likely explains their low patient ratings. My message to them is simple: start genuinely helping patients instead of just going through the motions!

Lucy made my blood test painless

My go-to medical practice has been consistently reliable. I've experienced minimal complications over time. Scheduling can occasionally be challenging. The mobile application is fantastic, though certain functionalities were suspended during the pandemic. When a recent health concern arose, the front desk staff addressed it efficiently. I typically get my annual blood work done here, and HCA Lucy is absolutely wonderful. She consistently ensures I remain relaxed and handles everything with remarkable tenderness.

Data privacy nightmare at local gp

The customer service is absolutely appalling. I've been attempting to prevent NHS from accessing my personal data since 23 June 2021, and it's been a frustrating ordeal. I've had to repeatedly contact the medical practice just to make any progress, and I remain skeptical whether they will actually handle my opt-out request. After reaching out to NHS digital, I was informed only the GP can process this, which is incredibly infuriating. I'm completely done with medical practices! These GPs are completely unreliable! I sent an email to the practice manager on 31 May requesting to opt out and received zero response. Then, a month later, NHS digital confirms that the GP must process the form - it's been a total nightmare of bureaucratic incompetence!
