I make every effort to avoid reaching out to my general practitioner (whom I rarely encounter) except in dire circumstances, yet through the years, I've observed a gradual deterioration in the quality of primary care provided to patients. I acknowledge that this perspective is specific to my individual encounters and may not be universally shared.

I'm not one to typically write reviews, but I cannot emphasize enough how exceptional this medical practice is. Recently relocated to Ely, pregnant and juggling two young children, I've unfortunately found myself attending more medical appointments than I'd prefer. Without exception, every physician and nurse I've encountered has been outstanding in their interaction with both myself and my children. They consistently dedicate time, demonstrate genuine care, provide clear explanations, and ensure appointments never feel hurried. It's challenging to articulate precisely why they're so remarkable, but the staff at St Mays surgery are truly extraordinary, with Dr Jake and Dr Cooper, whom we saw today, being particularly impressive. Appointment scheduling has always been remarkably swift, and the facility itself is immaculately maintained with an inviting, welcoming atmosphere. I'm profoundly grateful to have discovered such a wonderful medical practice, and compared to previous healthcare providers I've experienced over the years, this place is absolutely outstanding.

These medical professionals are absolutely top-notch! It's unfortunate that relocating might force me to seek care elsewhere. Scheduling appointments is always straightforward, and the front desk staff are warm and accommodating. The physicians genuinely engage and take a holistic approach to treatment, especially regarding mental health concerns. Some self-advocacy is necessary - I did have to be proactive in requesting specific tests and specialist referrals. However, they were incredibly responsive, and their thoroughness led to diagnosing a highly uncommon blood cancer that many other practices would have likely overlooked or disregarded. In my assessment, they represent the pinnacle of medical care in the area.

Hormonal health dismissed with shocking medical ignorance

Be warned: if you're dealing with menstrual or hormonal health concerns, you'll need to be your own advocate. This experience epitomizes the shocking lack of understanding and research surrounding hormonal issues. Initially, I consulted a pleasant but seemingly uninformed physician about my severe PMS (previously diagnosed as PMDD) and was prescribed a contraceptive pill via phone (which they later attempted to modify after presumably researching). Unconvinced, I requested a consultation with a doctor specializing in hormonal health or perimenopause and was assigned to Dr Semrau-Boughton. Having tracked my PMS symptoms for seven years and extensively researched the topic, I found the consultation deeply frustrating. The doctor spent half our time attempting to distinguish between depression and cyclical symptoms (despite my clear explanation), was patronizing when I inquired about natural ovulation's long-term health benefits, dismissed alternative approaches, provided confusing HRT information ("if you're taking HRT, you might as well take the pill"), discouraged comprehensive blood testing, and flatly denied PMDD's existence ("PMDD, PMS, just rearrange the letters"). She ultimately presented only one option: the contraceptive pill, with no mention of alternatives like the Mirena coil, and even sent a beginner's PMS guide afterward! Medical literature often includes chapters about self-advocacy against dismissive doctors—this interaction perfectly illustrates why. Given PMDD and menopause symptoms' serious nature, this approach is dangerously inadequate. I've found more meaningful support through specialized medical talks, resources like The Menopause Charity and Menopause Support, and connecting with women experiencing similar challenges.

Misleading doctor misrepresents personal pharmacy experience

Good ...except for Dr David Cooper (whom I've never encountered) who misrepresented my Haddenham Pharmacy experience. It's astonishing that a professional physician would hastily draw inaccurate conclusions about past events and send me a message addressing these. He has absolutely no prior interaction with me, yet presumes to know the details. The fact that a qualified doctor would make such unfounded assumptions without ever speaking to or meeting me is truly perplexing. Truly disheartening.
