Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals a practice with significant and persistent challenges in appointment access and booking experience. Patients consistently report difficulties securing consultations, with long waiting times for phone responses, limited availability through the e-consult system, and barriers to in-person appointments. Reception experience emerges as a key concern, with multiple accounts of dismissive and discourteous staff interactions, though some patients describe welcoming and supportive receptionists. Communication gaps are widespread, including delayed responses to requests, contradictory information from different staff members, and inadequate follow-up on promised callbacks. Several positive experiences highlight responsive communication, professional staff, and compassionate care when patients do access services, suggesting variable service quality across the practice.

Continuity of care presents a notable issue, with patients reporting inconsistent access to the same healthcare provider and reliance on telephone or online consultations rather than face-to-face appointments. Administrative failures, including prescription processing delays and incomplete documentation handling, have created frustration and disrupted patient care. The e-consult system, while offering flexibility for some, operates within restrictive time windows that many find impractical. Despite these challenges, a minority of reviews praise the practice's efficiency, staff professionalism, and genuine attentiveness to patient concerns, indicating that experiences vary considerably depending on individual interactions and circumstances.

Worst medical care ever experienced in my life

This medical practice is completely dysfunctional and might as well close its doors. Scheduling an appointment is nearly impossible, and there's zero continuity of care since patients never see the same physician twice. On the rare occasion you actually secure a consultation, you're typically handed off to temporary locum doctors who are solely focused on their billing and show zero genuine concern for patient welfare. Almost without fail, the front desk staff will simply redirect you to the Urgent Treatment Center at the Royal Hospital, which is utterly ridiculous.

Frustrating and inefficient healthcare booking experience

Booking a consultation with my general practitioner proves to be an incredibly challenging process. The scheduling links reveal minimal time slots. Upon finally arriving at the medical center, the waiting area is eerily vacant. The entire primary care experience has left me thoroughly frustrated and disheartened.

Friendly staff and quick service saved my day

I'm relatively new to this medical practice since moving to the area. Today, Kay at the front desk provided exceptional customer service. She swiftly arranged an emergency doctor's appointment and completed an online triage assessment immediately. The physician was excellent, and I received the necessary prescription. Additionally, I had travel vaccinations at this clinic, and both appointments were punctual. It appears that submitting an e-consult early in the morning is the typical method for securing an appointment. However, I would feel comfortable walking into the surgery and requesting assistance if needed. My appreciation goes out to the staff. (Note: The parking situation is quite limited, with a very small car park behind the clinic. This detail is not clearly communicated on their website, and during my previous visit, I had to pay for street parking!)

Quick and compassionate healthcare service

I utilized their online consultation service, and they reached out to me within hours. I secured an appointment for the following day, with minimal waiting time. The nursing staff was exceptional, thoroughly addressing my inquiries and displaying remarkable kindness. Despite encountering numerous critical comments beforehand, I was initially apprehensive, but ultimately, my interaction was thoroughly positive.

Terrible experience with dr mead mathews surgery

absolutely horrendous staff from start to finish, completely clueless, totally uncooperative, and utterly incompetent at Dr. Mead Mathews, St. Mary's. This surgical center deserves to be shut down permanently. If it weren't so close to my location, I would definitely seek treatment elsewhere. I cannot comprehend how these people can live with themselves after providing such abysmal service !!!!!!

Terrible gp service that fails desperate patients

Absolutely zero stars would suffice for these GPS who show no empathy or concern for patient well-being. Those medical professionals who merely sit in their offices, passing judgment without truly understanding patient struggles, need a serious wake-up call. When patients are desperately seeking help and can barely move, they're met with indifference. Incompetence runs rampant - from misspelling names to neglecting to review critical medical history. It appears they're deliberately withholding potentially life-altering information from vulnerable patients. I strongly caution anyone considering registering with this practice to proceed with extreme caution.

Frustrating healthcare with endless appointment runaround

I need to update my review!!! It appears virtually everything has transformed in this medical practice. And I'm convinced they merit a 5-star rating. I'll preserve my previous review below!! Regarding complaints, here's where you can submit them: https://www.england.nhs.uk/contact-us/complaint/complaining-to-nhse/ Regardless of circumstances! They consistently attempt to avoid scheduling an appointment through various tactics: 1- Demand you complete a consultation form (even when you're physically present or calling) 2- Insist you visit the surgery (while you're on the phone) 3- Request you arrive at 8:30 am (when you're already at the surgery) 4- Tell you to return on Monday (when you're at the surgery at 8:30) 5- Claim no available appointments exist (when you're at the surgery at 8:30 on Monday) 6- Declare it's not urgent, so no appointments are available (knowing you'd call emergency services for truly urgent matters) 7- Suggest it's urgent, so you should call 111 or 999 PS: I'm convinced the surgery's management operates with a deliberate policy of patient disregard.

Terrible service from unhelpful and unresponsive doctors

I called seeking a doctor's callback, but received a text directing me to the Urgent Treatment Centre at Royal South Hants Hospital. I'm baffled how a doctor can make this recommendation without even speaking with me. When I responded explaining I couldn't go to the hospital and reiterated my request for a phone consultation, I was firmly told that wasn't an option. It consistently feels like getting medical attention or communication from this practice is nearly insurmountable. The quality has dramatically deteriorated - this used to be an excellent surgery, but now I wouldn't suggest it to anyone. The standard of care has significantly declined from what it once was!

Compassionate care meets digital convenience for patients

I believe the increased reliance on digital technology during the pandemic has enhanced the efficiency of this medical practice. Their communication channels are highly effective, with an excellent screening process. Typically, patients can secure an appointment either immediately or within a fortnight. The front desk staff are consistently warm and supportive, and each department appears to operate with remarkable precision. Moreover, the healthcare professionals demonstrate genuine compassion and attentiveness; regardless of which provider I've consulted, they invariably dedicate sufficient time to understanding my concerns and delivering optimal care.

Terrible medical practice with zero patient convenience

Absolute worst surgical experience. The appointment system is incredibly frustrating, with phone bookings impossible and online EConsults restricted to a tiny 30-minute window from 8:00-8:30am. Managing my personal health records has become a nightmare, and accessing my own medical information is nearly impossible. The customer service is deplorable, and the staff's attitude is nothing short of disrespectful.

Frustrating medical bureaucracy at its absolute worst

I sought a medical certificate for my spouse after a critical health event. The digital link provided was faulty. When I inquired about a traditional paper document, I was informed it would take multiple weeks to process. Additionally, I need to fill out a form to claim compensation for a cancelled vacation related to the medical situation. The form submission will apparently require up to a month, and bizarrely, they exclusively accept cash payment of £20. How peculiar in today's technological era???

Terrible medical service with dangerous prescription errors

I contacted the medical practice on Wednesday, December 6th about an error with my prescription - they mistakenly reduced one of my medications by half instead of increasing it! Initially, I was assured I would receive a callback. After not hearing back, I submitted an e-consult form on Friday morning and was promised communication by 6:30pm Monday. As of Tuesday at 10:30am, I still have not received any response and have had to phone them again, waiting for a resolution. They claim patient health is their priority? If you're seeking a healthcare provider in Southampton, steer clear of this practice. Their lack of communication and apparent disregard for patient care is unacceptable.

Broken healthcare system leaves patients feeling hopeless

I recognize that our government is neglecting the National Health Service, but the situation has deteriorated to such an extent that seeking medical attention is like claiming an alien encounter—completely unbelievable! I can't think of anyone who would seek healthcare unless absolutely desperate, so I'm puzzled about who's supposedly overwhelming the system, as I've yet to encounter such individuals.

Absolutely appalling service... healthcare professionals disregarded my medical concerns regarding a specific treatment for my ailment... I desperately wanted to consult a physician about a critical health matter... I've been bedridden for three consecutive days... staff callously directed me to the walk-in center... As a retired nursing professional, I'm thoroughly outraged... I'm struggling with intense abdominal discomfort from Diverticulitis and IBS-D, and I'm also managing diabetes with insulin medication.

Terrible healthcare for transgender patients avoid

Avoid this practice if you're transgender and seeking basic healthcare, as they failed to complete a mandatory GIC referral (they didn't submit or obtain a receipt, forcing me to send it 6 months after their deadline). During the shared care prescription process, they dragged their feet for months, allowing my current prescription to expire. When I attempted to get staff to address the issue, Dr. Mathews called and berated me, claiming I was wasting her time and that she should be handling an 80-year-old bleeding patient. The entire experience was characterized by unnecessary delays and reluctance to help, which could have been resolved quickly while maintaining GMC guidelines. The final straw was the same doctor offering anti-depressants with a promised follow-up, only to subsequently ignore me and let the prescription lapse without any communication. This occurred after I had explicitly shared my suicidal thoughts with her.

Incompetent staff caused painful gout misdiagnosis nightmare

Arrived with foot pain, barely able to walk. Receptionist dismissed my concerns, suggesting it was just a sprain when I inquired about seeing a doctor. A week later, with barely mobile toes, I returned and finally got an appointment after completing an e-consult, as the receptionists were preoccupied with their phones and gossiping about a TV show. The doctor again diagnosed it as a sprain. The condition worsened dramatically when three toes turned a deep red, prompting a visit to A&E. Within seconds, they identified it as gout, criticizing my GP for missing such an obvious diagnosis. Due to the prolonged delay in proper treatment, I now must take daily medication to prevent flare-ups and endure constant pain in my left foot because of this incompetent medical practice. Even if this surgery is right next door, I strongly advise finding an alternative. STEER CLEAR AT ALL COSTS.
