Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals a practice with significant and persistent challenges in appointment access and booking experience. Patients consistently report difficulties securing consultations, with long waiting times for phone responses, limited availability through the e-consult system, and barriers to in-person appointments. Reception experience emerges as a key concern, with multiple accounts of dismissive and discourteous staff interactions, though some patients describe welcoming and supportive receptionists. Communication gaps are widespread, including delayed responses to requests, contradictory information from different staff members, and inadequate follow-up on promised callbacks. Several positive experiences highlight responsive communication, professional staff, and compassionate care when patients do access services, suggesting variable service quality across the practice.

Continuity of care presents a notable issue, with patients reporting inconsistent access to the same healthcare provider and reliance on telephone or online consultations rather than face-to-face appointments. Administrative failures, including prescription processing delays and incomplete documentation handling, have created frustration and disrupted patient care. The e-consult system, while offering flexibility for some, operates within restrictive time windows that many find impractical. Despite these challenges, a minority of reviews praise the practice's efficiency, staff professionalism, and genuine attentiveness to patient concerns, indicating that experiences vary considerably depending on individual interactions and circumstances.

Frustrating healthcare experience with unhelpful staff

I visited the surgery due to an infection, and the receptionist directed me to make a phone call. I had a Facetime consultation with a specialist who then referred me to the GP at Saint Marys surgery. Upon arrival, I tried to book an appointment for the prescription recommended by the specialist. However, they refused, claiming there was no information about me in their system, despite me having a digital referral letter with all consultation details. The receptionist insisted on a printed letter and stated she couldn't proceed without more consultation details. I am extremely frustrated with healthcare in this country - every time I seek medical assistance, I experience stress and feel nothing gets resolved. I'm still suffering from the infection and haven't received antibiotics due to these systemic administrative obstacles. The sarcastic "Well done" and praise at the end clearly highlight my deep dissatisfaction with their inefficient and unhelpful approach to patient care.

Negligent doctors nearly cost my son his health

I'm deeply concerned about my 4-year-old son's health. Despite repeatedly contacting 111 and being directed to St. Mary's surgery, the doctors consistently dismissed our worries. Frustrated, we opted for private medical care and discovered critical health issues through blood tests and scans. His lungs show extensive white spots, and he's suffering from iron deficiency. His symptoms are worsening - a persistent cough, minimal appetite, and rapidly declining energy levels. While 111 suggests he needs medical attention, St. Mary's surgery appears indifferent to his deteriorating condition. I'm terrified they're allowing his health to seriously decline, and I feel completely helpless about how to proceed.

Nightmare medical experience with zero patient care

This surgical practice is an absolute nightmare. Their waiting periods are unbearable. Attempting to reach reception by phone can consume up to thirty minutes, and even then, they refuse to schedule an appointment regardless of the urgency of your medical issue. The E-Consult system is perpetually dysfunctional, consistently displaying an "unavailable" status. It's completely hopeless, with virtually no possibility of securing a doctor's consultation.

Frustrating and ineffective healthcare experience

Completely worthless service. Getting an in-person medical consultation is a nightmare. The wait periods are absurdly long. The staff appears clueless and lacks professional competence. I received conflicting information from different staff members. Despite having my blood test results, it took them a full two weeks to provide any update or communication from a physician.

Friendly staff and quick appointment saved my day

I reached out to the office this afternoon, sometime between 2:30 and 2:40, and the front desk staff was incredibly pleasant and supportive. I managed to secure a consultation for around 4:30 pm, and the physician was equally warm and accommodating. Much appreciation!

Frustrating healthcare system fails patients completely

The sole method to secure a medical consultation or physician visit is now via E-Consult, despite enduring a 20-minute waiting period for an appointment - they claim it's completed or suggest urgent GP hospital care (it's clear why the NHS is dysfunctional, overburdening other services). The e-consult is exclusively accessible from 8 am to 9 am (a mere 60-minute window per day) ?? Obtaining a doctor's appointment has become an insurmountable challenge, with the service being thoroughly inadequate and desperately requiring transformation.

Great service from a fantastic medical team

I'm completely puzzled by the negative feedback surrounding this surgical practice. Throughout my interactions, I've consistently found their communication and service to be impeccable. Whenever I've reached out via phone or email, they've been nothing short of responsive. Their punctuality during appointments is remarkable, and I've always received my general practitioner's documentation and necessary referrals promptly. I would strongly advise potential patients to disregard the unfavorable reviews.

Frustrated patient seeks answers for ongoing health issues

Dear General Practitioner's Office! Since March, my health has been declining without proper investigation. I feel my medical concerns have been inadequately addressed. Throughout March, I visited the family doctor and underwent hospital appointments, yet my health issues persist. My symptoms include: A persistent leg itch since March. Multiple times, I've uploaded skin surface photos through an online application. No response was received. My arm veins have been experiencing intermittent pain for months. My lower stomach experiences occasional pain and tightness. Approximately 9 kg of weight loss occurred last year. Besides prescribed medications, I'm also using alternative medicinal products. Recently, I'm experiencing constant dry mouth and excessive protein in my urine. My latest lab results are concerning, and I'm awaiting further explanation. I urgently need to know: When will I be referred to a dermatologist? When will a colonoscopy be scheduled? When will lung screening be arranged?

Frustrating delay and poor communication with nhs

I was compelled to consult a physician for a definitive medical assessment - not serious enough for hospital admission, but urgent enough to warrant a GP visit. I completed an electronic form and was promised a callback by 6:30pm the following day, yet the call didn't arrive until 3pm the day after. When the doctor finally rang, they were working remotely and their phone connection was so poor that I had to terminate the call, unable to comprehend a single word. My subsequent attempt to reconnect was blocked by the receptionist, who insisted I wait for them to reinitiate contact - and I'm still waiting. The online booking system is completely non-functional; the NHS app restricts me to cervical testing through my specific surgery's recommended platform, and even then, it claims no availability whatsoever. These circumstances truly represent deeply concerning times.

Terrible service and zero patient care nightmare

I'm thoroughly disappointed with this medical practice. Attempting to contact them was a nightmare, with no phone number or email available. My daughter contacted 111 over a week ago on a Sunday, who recommended an urgent triage appointment for Monday morning. When she called Monday for triage, she waited the entire day, only to be incorrectly told later she should have done an e-consult. This was completely wrong - it was supposed to be a triage, and no e-consultation was ever initiated. She informed reception about the urgent nature of her case and requested to be placed back on the triage list. The next day passed with no response. Eventually, she managed a phone appointment after completing an e-consultation, and was instructed to call back if not improving. She's still very ill and her condition is now critical. Eight days have passed, and she's still waiting to be triaged. I'm left wondering what this surgery actually considers an urgent medical situation.

Frustrating healthcare service with poor communication

Unfortunately, my experience with St Mary's surgery has been deeply disappointing. Recently, I approached the customer service desk to request a prescription, and a staff member assured me they would submit the request. However, three days later, the pharmacy informed me nothing had been sent. Upon returning to the surgery's customer service, another staff member claimed no request was made and then promised to submit it. Three days passed, and the same frustrating situation repeated itself. Only after a week did a third staff member finally process the prescription request. Today, I requested a doctor's callback for my child. After waiting five hours, at 17:30, I received a text merely suggesting I call 111 if I needed to talk. This experience has completely eroded my trust, and I find the staff to be unreliable and unprofessional.

Terrible service and unprofessional staff attitude

It's clear why this place has such poor ratings. I arrived just 5 minutes past my scheduled long-term condition consultation, and after waiting in line for 10 minutes, I was simply informed that I was too late. Despite explaining to the receptionist that I had been present for the past 10 minutes and had taken time off work to attend, I was coldly told I could only reschedule after a two-week wait. This is absolutely unacceptable. Avoid this healthcare facility at all costs.

Worst healthcare experience ever disappointing and expensive

Absolutely dreadful healthcare practice that should be completely steered clear of. Getting through to anyone on the phone takes an eternity, and they're completely unhelpful regarding vaccinations that are meant to be complimentary under the National Health Service. Their solution is simply to suggest paying privately for services, which is utterly ridiculous. Completely useless medical facility.
