Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reveals a mixed experience across the practice, with significant variation in service quality. Many patients report positive experiences with clinical care, noting compassionate and professional doctors, responsive nursing teams, and efficient appointment booking systems. Reception staff receive particular praise for courtesy and helpfulness, and patients appreciate the clean environment and coordinated care.

However, substantial concerns emerge around appointment access, with multiple reports of lengthy waiting times ranging from three to eight weeks for consultations. Communication challenges are evident, including delayed responses to inquiries and inconsistent information provision. Some patients describe dismissive reception staff attitudes and inadequate clinical assessments, while prescription handling issues and unaddressed complaints feature in several accounts. The practice appears to deliver strong clinical outcomes in procedural care, yet struggles with accessibility and consistency in patient interactions across different service touchpoints.

Life-changing doctor who truly understands anxiety

Dr Greenwood is an absolute lifesaver! After a decade of struggling to find the perfect anxiety treatment, they've finally prescribed the ideal medication for me. Their communication and attentiveness are leagues above what I've experienced with the NHS before. They truly listened to my concerns and provided compassionate, expert care. I'm incredibly grateful for their professional and understanding approach. Dr Greenwood is, without a doubt, an exceptional physician who goes above and beyond. Massive thanks! 🤘

Terrible service and unprofessional medical staff nightmare

My encounter at this medical facility was extremely disappointing. The receptionist displayed an unpleasant demeanor during our phone conversation, and the general practitioner was unprofessionally dismissive, providing inaccurate details about my medical condition and referral while adopting a critical attitude. When I attempted to file a complaint, it became clear that the healthcare system is fundamentally flawed. The GP's written documentation, even when factually incorrect, is given more credibility than the patient's actual experience. The complaints procedure appears completely one-sided, with no real concern for patient welfare. I absolutely cannot recommend this healthcare provider to anyone.

Terrible medical care that fails patients miserably

This surgery has significantly deteriorated over recent years, particularly since the departure of seasoned, skilled physicians. When a doctor begins the consultation by declaring "we've only got 5 minutes," it's immediately clear they lack genuine concern for patient care. During my most recent appointment, the doctor's parting words were a dismissive "everyone experiences pain, you'll just have to adapt!" If your idea of medical care is being advised to take over-the-counter painkillers like paracetamol or ibuprofen, then this practice might suit you. However, you'd likely receive more comprehensive medical guidance by simply consulting the internet!

Worst healthcare experience ever terrible prescription service

A total mockery of healthcare. Twice now, my partner was assured his prescriptions would be ready, yet after countless phone calls and multiple trips to the in-house pharmacy, a full month has elapsed with no medication in hand. If his condition were critically urgent, he might well have perished by this point. An utterly disgraceful excuse for a medical service.

Exceptional healthcare that truly makes a difference

I've been receiving medical care at Newmarket Road and subsequently St Stephens Gate for quite some time. The service and patient care have consistently been exceptional. Dr Copson is truly an outstanding general practitioner. My most recent consultation was with Dr Churchman, who proved to be equally impressive... Compassionate, highly professional, and incredibly detailed in her approach. The reception team has invariably been wonderfully supportive and accommodating. My sincere appreciation.

Dangerous medical care at st stephens gate practice

Terrible encounter with doctors at St Stephens Gate Medical Practice. One physician completely missed diagnosing my medical condition (which I later discovered had clear, potentially life-threatening indicators). Instead, he incorrectly diagnosed me and prescribed inappropriate medication, which worsened my already distressing symptoms. He then misdiagnosed again, prescribing another medication that produced alarming side-effects (which he bizarrely attributed to the original misdiagnosed condition!) I was forced to discontinue these medications myself, as the doctor never reassessed or stopped prescribing. During another incident, after a consultant prescribed medication for a purportedly non-serious condition (which I later learned had no scientific basis and which I never actually had), multiple practice doctors were aware - having conducted the tests themselves - that I was experiencing serious cardiac side-effects from the medication. They incorrectly suggested these side-effects weren't medication-related (despite the effects emerging only after starting the medication and with no alternative explanation). None advised the consultant (who was aware of the side-effects but reluctant to stop prescribing) to discontinue the medication. Once again, after independently researching the medication's potential effects, I stopped taking it myself, and predictably, the side effects ceased. These physicians were not just incompetent but dangerously indifferent to my health and well-being. A competent doctor should: confirm diagnostic accuracy; conduct thorough assessments; carefully evaluate medication risks and benefits; monitor potential side-effects and discontinue medications when necessary; and protect patients from potentially dangerous prescribing practices. Based on my experience, such professional standards are unlikely to be found at St Stephen's Gate Medical Practice.

Compassionate care when i needed it most

I required medical attention on a Friday afternoon around 3 pm and was scheduled for a 4:15 pm appointment. The physician thoroughly examined my current health concerns, directly communicating with my hospital consultant. After consulting with the specialist, they prescribed medication and explicitly instructed me to call an ambulance and head to the hospital if my symptoms escalated. Alternatively, if my condition remained stable, I was advised to return to the surgery the following week. The doctor had already arranged comprehensive follow-up care. I was truly impressed by their exceptional weekend coverage and commitment to ensuring I was properly monitored within the healthcare system. The treatment and level of concern I received were absolutely outstanding.

I've been a patient at this medical practice for quite some time now. The quality of healthcare I've consistently experienced has been outstanding. When I reached out at 5:30 PM with symptoms suggesting an infection, I received a doctor's callback by 6 PM. By 7 PM, the pharmacy had already sent a text confirming my prescription was prepared! Three cheers for the National Health Service!

Quick service and helpful diagnosis at clinic

I sought medical guidance to validate my eczema diagnosis. Upon arrival, I was called in just slightly past my appointed time. The physician confirmed my skin condition. Following the consultation, I visited the on-site pharmacy, purchasing moisturizing cream and cotton gloves before departing. The self-service check-in process eliminated the need for receptionist interaction. I'll definitely return to St Stephens Gate Medical in the future. 10/10 recommendation.
