It is extremely difficult to obtain appointments at this practice, and the telephone system appears outdated. Many staff members seem unfamiliar with how their systems operate. Despite being located in a smaller town compared to nearby areas, the technological capabilities here fall short of what is available elsewhere. Patients are restricted to seeing their assigned doctor, whereas other surgeries permit patients to see any available doctor during emergencies. The overall experience has been very disappointing. When attempting to book an appointment for a family member recently, the wait time on the phone was considerable before being informed that an appointment would not be provided for the concern in question, as it was deemed insufficiently urgent. The receptionist asked questions that felt more appropriate for a clinical discussion with a doctor rather than administrative staff. The manner in which the call was handled came across as dismissive and unwelcoming. This practice appears to be among the poorest performing surgeries encountered.

They appear to apply strict categorisation systems to determine urgency, and even when I've indicated something is important, it doesn't always align with their assessment criteria. Additionally, there have been issues with medication management. The practice indicates they will send prescriptions to my local pharmacy, but on arrival at the pharmacy, nothing has been received, resulting in further delays of around two to three weeks before medication becomes available.

I had a relatively minor concern affecting my comfort and safety while driving, which seemed straightforward enough to address through written communication, as was possible during the pandemic, rather than consuming appointment slots needed by patients with more pressing requirements. Instead, the issue required repeating the same information multiple times across different contact methods, which felt inefficient and time-consuming. I rarely need to see my GP directly, but if this reflects how the system operates, it's understandable why some older patients avoid contacting their practice and subsequently experience health deterioration. Additionally, I received some concerning test results that fell significantly outside the expected parameters, yet I'm unable to speak with a GP for an extended period, and my results have been documented as falling within normal ranges. In such situations, individuals feel compelled to seek private medical attention instead. I genuinely want to support NHS services, but I shouldn't feel forced to compromise my own wellbeing in order to do so.

I was able to secure an appointment without much delay. Over a four-week period, I managed to arrange three same-day consultations for my ongoing concerns, with two of these being with a clinician and available within a couple of hours of my initial call. The team members were friendly and approachable. My matters were resolved promptly. I have been satisfied with my experience overall, though I did find that parking availability could occasionally be challenging.

Online booking system feels impersonal
I recently had to switch to a different practice. I really miss my previous surgery! The new practice operates solely through an online booking system, and the reception staff seem unwilling to help unless you've already booked online first. My old practice had staff available to speak with directly, and I could usually arrange an appointment with a GP simply by making a phone call. I do wish I were still registered there!
