Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals a practice facing significant operational challenges that substantially impact patient access and experience. The most persistent issue across reviews is appointment availability and booking difficulties, with patients reporting persistent phone system failures, long waiting times to connect, and frequent inability to secure consultations. Reception experience emerges as problematic, with multiple accounts of discourteous staff and poor communication. Patients also describe challenges with medication management, including delayed prescription processing and inconsistent renewal policies, alongside concerns about lack of continuity of care and insufficient staffing levels.

Despite these systemic access and administrative issues, the clinical care provided by medical professionals receives consistent positive recognition. Patients frequently commend doctors and nursing staff for demonstrating compassion, attentiveness, and thorough consultation practices, with several noting that the quality of care when finally accessed makes the effort worthwhile. Some patients specifically praise individual practitioners for their supportive demeanor and reassurance during consultations.

The contrast between positive clinical experiences and negative operational service suggests the practice's core challenge lies in organisational systems and resource capacity rather than clinical competence. Patients express frustration that access barriers prevent them from receiving the quality care that staff are capable of delivering, with some indicating they have sought alternative providers due to the difficulty in obtaining appointments and managing ongoing medication needs.

Frustrating experience with unhelpful medical practice

Scheduling a consultation here is a nightmare, exactly as previous patients have described. I strongly recommend seeking medical care elsewhere.

Terrible service and unhelpful doctors avoid at all costs

Scheduling a visit here is an absolute nightmare. Even after managing to secure an appointment, the physicians typically offer nothing more substantial than a dismissive "Return in a week and we'll reassess." It's genuinely baffling how this practice continues to operate. Patients have been voicing their frustrations for an extended period, yet absolutely no improvements have been implemented.

Worst medical service ever frustrating and dangerous

Utterly disgraceful. The phone lines are perpetually jammed, with calls either going unanswered or abruptly disconnected!! Scheduling an appointment is completely futile. I strongly advise against using this medical practice. You might as well be at death's door by the time they finally manage to book you a consultation.

Terrible surgery experience with unprofessional medical care

Dr. Hacking has completely let down his surgical practice, transforming what was once a top-tier facility into the most subpar medical center in the area. I strongly advise patients to seek treatment elsewhere.

Dangerous gp practice puts vulnerable patients at risk

I implore anyone with family members dependent on medication to steer clear of this general practice. They endangered my mother's well-being by abruptly terminating her phone call. Despite my attempts to manage her care, they have inexplicably shut down their email communication. What medical practice refuses email contact, and their phone lines are completely inadequate? When you actually manage to connect, they frequently cut you off, leaving you with an automated response. I've only successfully spoken with someone twice, and their demeanor was shockingly disrespectful and appalling. These unprofessional and temperamental staff are severely undermining the practice's reputation. While Dr. Hacking has previously provided acceptable care, this current situation is absolutely unacceptable and must be addressed immediately!

Terrible service from an understaffed medical practice

Extremely disappointing primary care practice. They've been chronically short-staffed for an extended period, and there's minimal continuity among the healthcare professionals who are employed. I absolutely cannot suggest this medical facility to anyone.

Terrible service and unprofessional medical staff nightmare

Completely revolting experience with an incredibly discourteous front desk staff. They contacted me regarding my child's prescription and instructed me to phone back later. When I did, I was repeatedly informed no appointments were available and spent nearly an hour on hold. The receptionist demonstrated appalling customer service skills - and being polite shouldn't be difficult. This medical practice is an absolute embarrassment. When I attempted to file a complaint, they dismissively suggested emailing them to forward it, which I'm certain they have no genuine intention of doing.

Frustrating healthcare experience with poor communication

Good grief! When you finally interact with medical staff, they're tolerable. However, this surgical practice has devolved into complete chaos. Why are we instructed to call at 3 o'clock, only to be told no appointments are available? In our situation, we're merely seeking a callback regarding my aged mother! I absolutely refuse to drag a 95-year-old to a walk-in clinic! The receptionists have become increasingly dismissive. On one memorable occasion, I found myself in a heated disagreement with a particular staff member. Additionally, two medical samples I personally submitted have mysteriously vanished. It seems nobody demonstrates any genuine concern anymore! So we've resorted to calling 111, where we might wait up to 24 hours for a return call. Yet, if we actually receive a response, we'll consider ourselves marginally satisfied...

Impossible to book appointments worst medical practice ever

Terrible experience. Booking an appointment has become an absolute nightmare. Their online system shows no availability for months, which is my go-to method due to my medical conditions. Forced to call instead, I'm met with constantly engaged phone lines or systems that aren't functioning at all. Currently, there's no way to contact the surgery. It's baffling why they're still restricting appointments to telephone consultations instead of in-person visits. Not everyone can effectively communicate over the phone, and numerous health issues simply cannot be properly assessed remotely. For over two years, I've been unable to secure an appointment for various reasons. It's ridiculous. Now I can't even obtain my medication because I need to see a clinician first, but seeing anyone is impossible. Completely avoid this place. Update 2023: still absolutely dreadful. They need to stop operating like we're in the height of the COVID pandemic, when clearly the world has moved on. Everyone else has returned to normal. Their lack of in-person services screams pure laziness. They claim you can book online, but the system is broken. The phone line remains useless. Once again, I'm unable to get my medication because they've made appointment scheduling nearly impossible. I'd switch practices in a heartbeat, but no other local surgery will accept me. What a nightmare!

Compassionate nurse saves the day from chaotic clinic

Following my recent appointment, I must commend the ANP Jo, who was exceptionally compassionate and soothing, instantly putting me at ease and providing reassurance. If I could rate this experience lower than zero, I absolutely would! I received an unexpected letter about an appointment I never requested or scheduled, which immediately caused me significant anxiety. Upon visiting the surgery to understand more, I learned they had misplaced a sample from a smear test conducted four months earlier, requiring me to repeat the test. Their delay in communicating the lost sample was inexcusable, and the letter's lack of clarity was frustrating. I scheduled another appointment and promptly added it to my calendar, only to arrive and be told the appointment was actually for the following day. The service was utterly unacceptable, and the reception staff were shockingly unprofessional, displaying complete indifference to my situation and making no effort to accommodate me. I am now seriously considering changing medical practices due to this abysmal experience.

Compassionate doctor who truly listens and cares

I recently had an appointment with Dr. Leckenby, and I was pleasantly surprised by his demeanor. He comes across as genuinely kind and creates a comfortable atmosphere. Unlike some physicians who seem hurried, he took the time to make me feel unhurried and relaxed during our consultation.

Frustrating and unhelpful customer service nightmare

Wasted nearly half an hour attempting to connect, and after finally getting through, I endured another 40 minutes waiting, only to be told no appointments were available and advised to ring 111 instead. This isn't an isolated incident - I consistently face similar challenges whenever I try scheduling a consultation. The service is completely unacceptable, and I'm seriously considering switching to another medical practice.

Terrible experience with their customer support. In the past, I struggled to even get through, having to dial over 250 times just to connect. Their new waiting queue system isn't much better - I've been stuck at position 2 for nearly three-quarters of an hour. It's clear this service is seriously lacking and requires significant overhaul.

Terrible healthcare experience leads to proper diagnosis

Absolutely terrible guidance from my initial doctor, who claimed everything was normal and failed to comprehend my concerns. I ultimately invested in a private consultation with an endocrinologist who immediately recognized the underlying issue from the supposedly 'fine' test results. He promptly initiated the appropriate long-term treatment, which led me to switch medical practices. Despite generous NHS compensation, I received more helpful information online than from the Avenue Surgery. If a physician struggles to correctly interpret diagnostic data, they should consult colleagues who can, instead of dismissing patient concerns.
