Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reflects a mixed experience with significant contrasts between clinical and administrative services. Medical staff and doctors are frequently praised for competence, compassion, and responsiveness, with the online AskMyGP platform receiving consistent positive recognition for enabling rapid same-day consultations. However, appointment access remains a persistent challenge, with patients reporting difficulty reaching the practice by phone due to overwhelmed lines, complex online booking systems with unclear windows, and long waiting periods for appointments and test results. Reception experience emerges as a notable concern, with multiple accounts of discourteous and dismissive staff behaviour, though some patients report warm and helpful interactions at the desk.

Continuity of care issues appear across several reviews, including delayed medical record transfers, missed follow-up commitments, and inconsistent prescription management. Patients describe frustration with booking obstacles that seem disproportionate to actual clinical capacity, with some noting that once consultations occur, care quality is generally solid. The practice's organisational systems, particularly around appointment scheduling and administrative processes, require attention to better match the clinical competence staff demonstrate during patient encounters.

Great!

Quick and caring medical service every time

I've never encountered any issues at this medical practice. The staff members are welcoming and the nurses are meticulous during examinations. I've discovered that booking appointments through askmygp is notably more efficient.

Worst medical experience ever nightmare of a practice

If a negative rating existed, I'd use it. These folks are utterly incompetent. I've experienced subpar medical procedures before, but this one takes the cake. They're unwilling to provide ongoing pain medication prescriptions, and when you desperately need relief, they won't dispense it until you personally appear in their office. If you rely on consistent medication, I strongly advise against choosing this medical practice - consider this a serious warning.

Poor!

Frustrating delays for essential medical blood tests

Why is my daughter being forced to endure a 4-week wait for blood tests, despite clear instructions from a Weston General consultant for multiple tests? Other medical practices in the Weston area manage to process these within a fortnight. It's a simple blood draw, not a complex surgical procedure. The management at Cedars and Village Surgery on Worle High Street appears thoroughly incompetent and disorganized.

Mixed experience with mostly awesome medical team

The medical staff and midwives are excellent. Lorna Reed in particular stands out as exceptional! Nevertheless, there's a receptionist whose attitude is terrible. With short hair and glasses, she consistently disregards me upon my arrival. I'll enter and attempt to check in with a greeting, but she entirely dismisses me and continues her tasks. I've tried saying hello around 5 times and been completely ignored until another receptionist eventually responds. Her behavior is unacceptable. A simple acknowledgment like "one moment" would suffice, but to totally disregard people is extremely unprofessional. Moreover, I've observed she treats others the same way.

Compassionate doctor turned my terrible year around

I've updated my rating from a single star to four stars... This past year has been incredibly challenging, but one physician has been absolutely exceptional and truly merits all my praise. He has provided tremendous emotional and medical support during my difficult time. Additionally, the nursing staff has been remarkably compassionate and kind.

Honest review of frustrating medical practice experience

An honest review, in my perspective. Some individuals are quick to complain about minor inconveniences like phone accessibility or staff attitude. We're aware that reviews aren't always balanced. Many people tolerate substandard service without recognizing it shouldn't be acceptable. I consider myself part of that group. I was registered with Cedars for 8 years as my local practice. My late step father, a kind man, described it as a terrible surgery, but I perhaps naively disregarded his observations. Previously, I'd been with a contemporary medical practice in Bristol, which was exceptionally efficient and consistently impressive. I'd never encountered issues with the NHS before. Joining Cedars felt like stepping back to the 1970-80s with its outdated facility, though I assumed the staff would be contemporary. In my view, management seemed to create unnecessary obstacles. The doctors themselves appeared reasonable. The "ask my GP" system is somewhat frustrating but seemingly functional. My concern stems from a sleep apnea machine incident where they refused to refer me to the sleep unit, requiring a written appeal despite prior diagnosis and needing only a repair. When I reported chest pains, the doctor couldn't locate a large blood pressure cuff and dismissed me, suggesting weight loss - just three days before I suffered a heart attack. The locum doctor was likely negligent, and the practice shouldn't have employed them. I required a testicular lump removal and endured multiple appeal letters, which were subsequently lost. I waited five years, continuously appealing. They consistently claimed this was standard procedure, citing NHS budget constraints, which I accepted. This situation depressed me, yet I remained passive. I didn't consider a friend's suggestion that this might be a profit-driven private practice potentially prioritizing financial interests over patient care. My heart specialist repeatedly urged the doctor to address my concerns, but nothing transpired. Eventually, he recommended changing practices. My new doctors are incredibly proactive. They immediately scheduled my lump removal, expressing confusion about previous delays and implementing changes that dramatically improved my life. Before switching, I wrote explaining my concerns, but received no response. I've contemplated legal action for medical negligence regarding the heart attack and other undisclosed incidents, but proving conclusively is challenging and exhausting. Ultimately, I don't believe litigation is the optimal solution. It's not about courtroom victory or monetary compensation, but doing what's right. My preferred approach is removing myself from their service and cautioning others. Should they request review removal or I discover it's been deleted, it would merely demonstrate their preference for suppressing criticism over service improvement. I firmly believe everyone receives fair warning and opportunity for change. Therefore, I cannot recommend this practice, but I sincerely wish you well.

Compassionate care for my elderly mother's health

I'm penning this note regarding my elderly mother, who's been feeling unwell recently. After she contacted the medical office via phone and spoke with the front desk staff, the physician promptly returned her call within just a few hours. They swiftly arranged for a prescription to be dispatched to the pharmacy and scheduled a blood test in the near future. While we're still anticipating the test results, the care and responsiveness we've experienced thus far have been truly impressive.

Mixed experience with ask my gp service

The online consultation with my general practitioner is exceptional. The medical staff consistently demonstrate helpfulness and quick responsiveness. However, the reception team is utterly unprofessional. They come across as discourteous, temperamental, dismissive, and self-important, bizarrely acting as though answering phones equates to medical expertise. (Simply handling telephone calls does not make one a healthcare professional). If you're unwilling to communicate with patients respectfully, you should seriously consider alternative employment. Any further disrespectful interaction towards my wife will undoubtedly prompt an official complaint.
