Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reflects a mixed experience across the practice. Many patients report positive interactions with reception staff demonstrating courtesy and responsiveness, alongside compassionate care from clinical teams. Several reviews highlight efficient service delivery, including access to urgent appointments and same-day consultations. Continuity of care and professional competence are noted as strengths by long-term patients.

However, significant challenges emerge around appointment availability and booking experience. Extended waiting times for initial consultations, sometimes lasting weeks or months, feature prominently in negative feedback. Some patients report concerns about the thoroughness of clinical examinations and delayed diagnostic assessment, with instances where patients felt their symptoms were not adequately investigated during appointments. Reception engagement issues are also documented, including instances where patients felt unheard or unsupported during check-in processes.

Communication gaps appear in several accounts, particularly regarding test result follow-up and coordination between reception and clinical staff. While the practice demonstrates strong capability in managing routine services and urgent cases, the feedback suggests inconsistency in diagnostic approach and appointment accessibility remains a persistent concern affecting the overall care experience.

Compassionate care beyond expectations in local practice

Despite the challenges facing general practitioners, I have consistently felt heard and valued. Doctors have been generous with their time, avoiding unnecessary prescriptions, tests, and referrals while promptly initiating hospital services when medically warranted. While it's fundamentally a professional service, there's a clear underlying ethos of patient care and avoiding potential harm. The reception staff are commendable, managing a challenging role with skill. The asthma nurse, Emma, stands out for her professional competence and genuine commitment. I observe that the current generation of GPs represents a significant advancement compared to those of the previous century, with the increasing proportion of female doctors bringing a more empathetic and less hierarchical approach. Overall, this is an excellent medical practice, serving a predominantly middle-class elderly population with predominantly lifestyle-related health considerations.

Healthcare Decline: From Excellence to Inefficient Service

HP once had a strong reputation, but over time, its quality has declined significantly. Similar to another reviewer’s experience, I too faced a serious health issue. At one point, I had a test that came back clear and was questioned about my return with the response: “your results were fine.” The truth is that while I did not have condition “A,” I was actually suffering from condition “B.” It took an additional two years and the insight of another physician before it was properly identified. All the symptoms were present; however, they went unnoticed. The previous generation of exceptional doctors has largely retired, leaving behind newer practitioners who tend to categorize patients too simplistically. Once you’re placed in one of these predefined categories—such as being labeled as “overweight,” “elderly,” “anxious,” or even a "smoker"—any consequent medical issues are typically attributed solely to that classification. This often leads them to dismiss concerns as either self-inflicted or imagined rather than taking them seriously. Moreover, scheduling an appointment now proves nearly impossible without considerable advanced notice; there’s no option for online bookings or e-consultations available. The practice is overwhelmed with patients far exceeding their capabilities which seems rooted in monetary considerations rather than patient care efficiency. This approach appears more focused on rapid turnover instead of accurate diagnosis during initial visits—a tactic that ends up consuming more time when patients inevitably return needing further assistance. While they excel at managing vaccination clinics efficiently—which likely aligns better financially—the overall patient care experience has suffered considerably due to this emphasis on profitability over comprehensive healthcare services.

Super local practice

In particular, I mention Dr Todd as my GP. His combination of respect and empathetic manner add to his genuine medical experience. I have been with the Harvey practice for many years and there is still a consistency that inspires confidence when we need medical help. Superb

Compassionate doctor saves patient with swift action

Dr Batchelor provided exceptional care during my recent medical consultation. I was seen at 4:30 pm for a scalp issue following surgery at Poole Hospital. The nurse consulted Dr Batchelor, who promptly recognized the need for further medical attention. Without hesitation, she directly contacted the maxillofacial department and arranged an immediate appointment for me. Her proactive approach ensured I received prompt medical intervention that I might not have obtained otherwise. The hospital staff were excellent, but Dr Batchelor's swift and compassionate action was truly remarkable. I am incredibly grateful for her dedication and personal commitment to ensuring my urgent medical needs were addressed quickly and efficiently. Heartfelt thanks to her for her outstanding professional support.

Compassionate care and communication at its best

I've found a medical practice that truly prioritizes patient communication. With my background as a retired Practice Nurse, I'm thoroughly impressed by the exceptional communication standards demonstrated by the entire staff. The receptionists consistently display kindness, patience, and helpfulness across all interactions. My general practitioner carefully listens and comprehensively addresses every concern I raise. The secretarial and prescription teams approach their responsibilities with remarkable dedication and professionalism. I wholeheartedly endorse Harvey Practice for anyone seeking a genuinely compassionate healthcare provider.

Exceptional Care at Dr. Harvey's Surgery

Exceptional Service! I visited to pick up a prescription, and Dr. Harvey attended to me as an urgent case. The reception staff welcomed me warmly with smiles, making sure that no request was too much trouble. Dr. Harvey was incredibly kind and compassionate, reflecting the demeanor of all the doctors there. Given the current demanding situation with numerous patients seeking appointments, they are managing admirably while maintaining their composure. I wholeheartedly recommend this practice for anyone in need of medical services; they truly stand out as a remarkable surgery.

Receptionist Nightmare: Ignored, Blamed, and Misrepresented

I arrived here today but was unable to log into the system, so I tried to get the attention of one of the three receptionists who were busy on phone calls. Unfortunately, my attempts went unnoticed. I took a seat and waited; when they finally finished their calls, I politely asked if they could assist me with signing in. Instead of responding directly, one receptionist ignored me and asked what I said. When I repeated my request for assistance with check-in, she acknowledged it but did not seem engaged. Shortly after this interaction, I received a notification indicating that there had been no attempt on my part to check in for my appointment. This situation is completely unacceptable. The receptionist informed my doctor that I was present; however, when speaking with her later, my doctor claimed that the receptionist stated I was unaware of the need to sign in – which is utterly false and misleading behavior on her part. It would have taken just a simple greeting or inquiry like “How can I assist you?” upon noticing someone waiting nearby instead of ignoring me altogether. The entire experience has left me frustrated. If only this particular blonde receptionist had prioritized fixing the sign-in machine rather than discussing personal matters during work hours, perhaps there wouldn't have been any misunderstanding leading to reprimands from my doctor afterward. Truly disappointing service overall!

Frustrating healthcare experience with unhelpful doctors

Absolutely terrible experience. I'm not one to seek medical attention frequently and hadn't visited a healthcare provider in nearly a decade before last week. The process was incredibly frustrating. It took an entire month just to secure a phone consultation. After enduring a six-week wait, I was ultimately made to feel like a nuisance during my brief interaction with the medical staff. Completely pointless and discouraging.

Compassionate care from a tick bite to recovery

I consistently find this medical practice exceptional. The doctors and receptionists are incredibly supportive, and I've never experienced any difficulties accessing or consulting with a physician. I manage challenges related to Anxiety, Menopause, and am a Caregiver for my Adult Son. Recently, I encountered a mysterious leg bite accompanied by prolonged flu-like symptoms lasting approximately four weeks. Fortunately, I sought medical attention, which proved crucial. A tick had actually left two of its legs embedded in my bite. Dr. Davies expertly removed the tick's remnants and prescribed a two-week course of Antibiotics to prevent Lyme disease. I am profoundly appreciative of this outstanding Practice and sincerely hope to remain their patient indefinitely. Congratulations to Broadstone The Harvey Practice - your Doctors, Nurses, and Reception staff are truly remarkable.

Compassionate care when you need it most

During my travels, I unexpectedly fell sick. On the off chance, I stopped by the medical practice hoping for a walk-in appointment - and I was pleasantly surprised. The front desk staff were incredibly kind and managed to lift my spirits even though I was feeling unwell. I first underwent a phone consultation and was then promptly seen by Dr Bachelor on the very same day (which is quite remarkable considering how overloaded healthcare professionals typically are). I was truly appreciative of receiving such timely care. My health issues were addressed quickly and efficiently. My sincere thanks to the entire team.

Distant healing powers at harvey's medical practice

I've encountered claims about distant healing abilities, but I never anticipated such practices at the NHS. At The Harveys Practise, it seems diagnosing patients without direct interaction is standard procedure. For over seven months, I sought assistance to address my inflamed tissues, joint issues, and persistent pain. My initial consultation was with a young, eager GP who appeared inexperienced. While I understand everyone starts somewhere and didn't object when she consulted a more senior colleague, I was taken aback that no experienced doctor returned to examine me or support their junior colleague. As my condition deteriorated, I requested a consultation with a more seasoned GP, hoping for a clear diagnosis and treatment strategy. I visited the practice three times, yet no senior medical professional ever assessed my condition. During one particularly challenging moment, when my hand was nearly immobilized and pain was intense, a young GP "diagnosed" me by referencing a laminated reference sheet. Once again, no senior physician intervened or personally examined me. Evidently, Harvey's staff seem to rely on mysterious diagnostic methods, as none of the GPs reviewed my medical history before appointments or consultations. Dutifully, I repeatedly recounted my symptoms, consuming precious consultation time. Traditional healers would spend hours performing rituals to help patients. At Harvey's Practise, their version of healing is remarkably expedited. I witnessed a stressed GP chasing a senior doctor in the hallway, who provided a two-minute "diagnosis" without entering the examination room. After seven months of being shuffled between various GPs, I ultimately sought help at a private clinic. Within 10 minutes of a comprehensive examination and targeted questioning, a professional provided a precise diagnosis and treatment plan. Most distressingly, the practice's doctors casually mentioned potentially life-altering, incurable conditions without thoroughly examining me. These repeated, futile interactions ultimately triggered severe anxiety. The practice offers no guidance on obtaining test results, let alone ensuring a doctor reviews them with the patient or schedules a follow-up. One receptionist even dismissively responded, "Why do you need to talk to your doctor? Your tests are fine." Fortunately, my condition was not terminal, and I eventually received care from compassionate, competent professionals. However, I shudder to think what might happen to someone developing a preventable but potentially fatal illness. Seven months is an unacceptably long time to wait.
