Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reveals a practice with significant operational challenges alongside pockets of positive care. Appointment access remains a persistent concern, with patients reporting difficulties reaching the practice by phone, extended waiting times for available slots, and delays in securing consultations. Communication barriers are evident, including phone system failures, unresponsive callback systems, and inconsistent follow-up on requests. Reception experience is mixed, with some patients praising courteous and helpful staff while others describe discourteous interactions and poor responsiveness to patient concerns.

Where the practice receives consistent praise is in the quality of clinical care itself. Patients highlight compassionate doctors, responsive medical professionals, and thorough consultations that justify extended wait times for some. Prescription processing and administrative follow-up remain problematic areas, with patients reporting delays and lack of coordination. The booking system is frequently criticised as disorganised and difficult to navigate, particularly for those with non-traditional working hours.

Recent improvements in online booking and same-day appointment availability are noted by some patients, suggesting the practice is attempting to address longstanding access issues. However, the overall pattern indicates that while clinical care quality is valued, systemic problems with appointment availability, phone accessibility, and administrative responsiveness continue to frustrate a significant portion of the patient population.

Bad!

Terrible service from unfriendly and unhelpful staff

Disappointing. I rarely share my thoughts on services, but this demands attention. Medically, everything seems fine, yet navigating their front desk is a nightmare. The receptionists are consistently discourteous, aggressive, and thoroughly unprofessional - that is, if you can even manage to reach them. Truly disheartening.

Miraculous transformation from pain to healing journey

Initially, I had rated this surgical procedure with a single star. However, my perspective has completely transformed, and I now award a perfect five-star rating. I am immensely grateful to Dr. Mystery for their exceptional work. I also want to express my sincere appreciation to Diane at the front desk, who has been incredibly helpful and accommodating. Her dedication and willingness to assist are truly remarkable. My heartfelt thanks to both of them.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you have had a bad experience with our surgery. We are sorry that you have been affected by our ongoing issues with our telephone system. This issue has been going on for some time. We are assured that this is being investigated continuously by our IT department and other involved third parties to try to find a solution. This has been escalated as far as possible, and we know that this is affecting several GP surgeries. We are doing our utmost to work around this issue by providing alternatives such as booking appointments via online services like the NHS App. We also have an online triage platform called PATCHS which many patients have found useful. Information about these services can be found on our website. With regards to the surgery being closed - it is possible that your phone call coincided with the practice closing for the afternoon. This happens once a month at most GP surgeries to allow time for staff training and meetings. Our dedicated day is the second Thursday of each month - the Practice closes from 1pm with all calls being passed through to Bury and Rochdale Doctors on call (BARDOC). Kind regards, Junction Surgery

Nightmare phone experience with terrible medical practice

Absolutely absurd customer service! I attempted to call repeatedly, over 60 times between 8am and 8:30am, but couldn't even navigate through the menu options due to the overwhelmingly congested phone line. On the rare occasions the call actually connected, the medical practice simply allowed the phone to ring endlessly before disconnecting. By the time they eventually pick up, all available appointments for the day will have been taken. To make matters more infuriating, even when calling precisely at 8am, the system still claims the surgery is closed until at least 8:02am - utterly unacceptable!!!!!!!!

Helpful staff battling phone system challenges

The employees are putting in considerable effort despite being quite overwhelmed. There have been some technical issues with the phone lines, though these might have been addressed recently. If you begin calling at 8am, you can typically get through successfully. I find the general practitioners to be responsive and genuinely committed to assisting patients.

Terrible service that endangered my sick baby

The service I experienced today for my recently hospitalized infant was absolutely appalling! They hung up on me, and when I attempted to call back, an inexperienced receptionist named Aleksandra abruptly disconnected the call, despite my child suffering from a lung infection! She refused to hear any explanation and was verbally aggressive! It seems she's deliberately obstructing communication. Clearly, she's being compensated to undermine this practice. Horrible individual! I've been a loyal patient of this GP for years, but now everything is falling apart.

Terrible service and endless phone queue nightmare

If you enjoy being stuck on hold and never connecting with an actual person, this medical practice is perfect for you. Should you hope to actually consult a physician and manage to navigate beyond the endless automated menu choices of 1, 2, or 3, only to find yourself trapped in a phone queue with 9 other waiting patients, I strongly recommend seeking out alternative healthcare providers. I've been attempting to resolve this for over a fortnight with absolutely zero success!

Nightmare customer service from my local gp practice

Utterly frustrating experience with this medical practice. Their phone lines were dysfunctional for four consecutive days, consistently dropping my calls while waiting in the queue. I've been attempting to connect since early morning, experiencing the same infuriating cycle repeatedly. The system claims to be at full capacity, and every time I nearly reach the front of the line, the call abruptly disconnects. I've been cut off multiple times when positioned 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 2nd again in the queue. Appointment slots are unavailable, and now that it's outside standard hours, I'm forced to navigate the challenging process of contacting a GP who is nearly impossible to reach. It's becoming increasingly clear that I need to find a more reliable healthcare provider.

Terrible service and impossible to get appointments

I've been a patient at this medical practice since childhood, and now at 45, I'm actively seeking a more competent healthcare provider. What was once an excellent surgery has devolved into an incredibly frustrating experience, primarily due to the condescending receptionists who seem more interested in obstacles than assistance. Securing an appointment is practically impossible, especially for those working non-traditional hours like myself. Attempting to book at 8am is futile, as no one answers until 9am, by which time all slots have mysteriously vanished. The scheduling system appears designed to discourage patients rather than support them. When you miraculously manage to secure an appointment, prepare to invest substantial time waiting, as the doctors consistently run significantly behind schedule. Anyone searching for a medical practice should definitively steer clear of this one. The likelihood of leaving satisfied is minimal - perhaps 1% at best. The recent explanations for their inability to see patients are so absurd they border on comedic. My recommendation is crystal clear: STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY.

Terrible service and endless waiting times nightmare

Absolute disaster of a medical procedure. It's impossible to get any assistance unless you're willing to waste hours standing in endless lines. Scheduling an appointment is a nightmare, and they'll only see you if your condition isn't urgent and can somehow wait over three weeks!

Frustrating service with occasional glimpse of hope

Quite inconsistent in performance. I was positioned as the third caller during a brief window, only to have the system abruptly terminate the call. Subsequent attempts to reconnect were futile, as the system appeared overwhelmed, inadvertently permitting some individuals to bypass the waiting line. The most frustrating aspect is that this persistent problem has been recognized for an extended period, yet remains unaddressed. Despite these challenges, Dr Mistry's exceptional assistance prevents a completely negative experience, which is why I've allocated two additional stars.

Thank you for your feedback. For patients that report being cut off, we ask that they supply us with the last 4 digits of the telephone number they were using and the time they called or were cut off (please supply via email to [email protected] or direct to one of our reception team). We will then share this information directly with our IT department who will in turn investigate this with other involved third parties. We are doing our utmost to work around this issue by providing alternatives such as booking appointments via online services like the NHS App. We also have an online triage platform called PATCHS which many patients have found useful. Exceptional patient care at junction surgery

I've been thoroughly delighted with the recent improvements in online booking and the practice's systems. My medical concerns are being addressed promptly, and the diagnostic process is progressing smoothly thanks to the practice's efforts. The new medical staff, including the doctor and nurse, are exceptional. Today, the receptionist at junction surgery truly exceeded expectations in helping me resolve my healthcare needs. Although I experienced a 30-minute telephone wait and had previously encountered challenges scheduling an appointment at the Alkrington location, she ultimately went the extra mile. She made me feel valued, handled my case with utmost professionalism, and provided clear, precise guidance. Recognition is definitely warranted in this instance.... Thank you.

Uncaring doctors fail to address complex health needs

While many complaints circulate about reception staff and waiting periods, my primary concern with this GP practice actually lies with the physicians themselves. I have intricate health requirements that this surgery appears completely uninterested in addressing. I've essentially been informed that despite my existing medications and ongoing health challenges, resolving these issues is entirely my responsibility, with the GP refusing to intervene (even though NICE and NHS guidelines suggest multiple potential actions). I'm instructed to undergo blood tests, but subsequent appointments provide no follow-up. Doctors neglect to review previous medical history before consultations. Numerous instances exist where concerns identified during annual reviews are subsequently ignored, with medical staff showing zero commitment to escalating these matters. Compassion is entirely absent here. The doctors will observe your emotional distress and then proceed to blame you for your condition. They only respond when persistently confronted, requiring multiple visits and assertive communication. Demonstrably overwhelmed by complex cases, particularly those involving mental health challenges. Improvement is desperately needed. I'm transitioning to an alternative GP practice, despite this surgery being mere steps from my home. That fact alone speaks volumes about my experience.

Terrible medical care leaves patient utterly frustrated

This medical practice is an absolute disaster! Managing my elderly mother's COPD is incredibly challenging when their phone lines are constantly dropping calls, and obtaining an urgent nebuliser prescription feels practically impossible, with wait times of 3-4 days. Even the respiratory nurse struggles to get anywhere, which only amplifies the already overwhelming stress - and they appear completely indifferent. What happened to basic human compassion and understanding? While most receptionists are tolerable, encountering the wrong staff member is a nightmare; she is fundamentally unsuited to customer service and somehow gets away with her appalling communication. It's unsurprising that the surgery never responds to these critiques - they'd be overwhelmed with justified complaints. If I could assign zero rating and switch healthcare providers immediately, I absolutely would. The frustration is beyond words! 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Terrible healthcare service with misplaced vaccination priorities

It's no surprise cancer prevalence is rising when medical practices like this exist. Getting a same-day consultation or even reaching someone by phone seems virtually impossible, yet vaccine availability is prominently advertised. They seem more focused on pushing vaccinations than providing comprehensive patient care. I'm considering a strategic approach - booking a vaccine just to potentially gain access to speak with my actual physician. Their phone system has been dysfunctional for over three months now. Every morning, patients endure hour-long wait times, and by the time someone finally answers, all daily appointments have been exhausted. Adding insult to injury, their phone lines don't even open precisely at 8am as implied, but at 8:02, effectively sabotaging any attempts to get ahead of the queuing system.
