Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reflects a mixed experience across the practice. Many patients report positive interactions with reception staff and clinical professionals, noting courtesy, approachability, and caring attitudes during appointments. Clinical care is frequently described as thorough and professional, with clear communication and sufficient time allocated to consultations. However, significant access challenges emerge as a consistent concern, particularly around telephone booking and prescription requests, with patients reporting extended hold times and lengthy appointment processes that create frustration.

Appointment availability presents an ongoing issue, with some patients experiencing extended waits to secure appointments and concerns about the efficiency of current booking procedures. A small number of patients have reported unprofessional staff conduct and disrespectful interactions, which have negatively affected their perception of the practice. Additionally, some feedback suggests a perceived decline in care quality, and concerns have been raised about the thoroughness of certain appointment types and the coordination of follow-up care.

Whilst clinical standards remain generally strong, the practice would benefit from addressing reception accessibility and streamlining appointment processes to reduce patient frustration and improve overall service responsiveness.

Staff took time to listen and care

I am relatively new to this medical practice. The entire team, including reception staff and clinical professionals, have been very pleasant. They demonstrate kindness and attentiveness, and the clinicians allocate sufficient time to consultations while maintaining a professional approach. Much appreciated.

Reception staff were dismissive and unhelpful

The nursing staff member displayed an extremely rude demeanor and spoke to me in a manner that felt aggressive and disrespectful. I found this interaction to be unprofessional and upsetting, as I have not experienced such treatment in a healthcare setting before.

Forty-five minute wait to reach reception

My husband attended the surgery for a blood test and was asked to book an appointment to see a clinician as he was experiencing health concerns. He was instructed to call back on Monday at 8.00 am. After waiting 45 minutes to get through, he was then placed on hold to speak with reception staff. At this point, he is still waiting for a callback, and we understand the local branch had no further appointments available. We are in the process of submitting a formal complaint and continue to wait for contact from the practice. Since joining last August, my husband has had ongoing health issues and has only been seen by nursing staff rather than a doctor, which has left us feeling frustrated and disappointed. We are now considering registering with a different practice, though we wonder whether other surgeries might present similar challenges.

Phone queues make booking appointments difficult

Contacting the reception team to arrange an appointment or request a prescription has proven extremely challenging. A recent attempt to reach someone resulted in an extended wait on hold before eventually disconnecting, and a similar experience occurred when trying to contact the practice on behalf of a family member. While the clinical care provided during appointments is of a high standard, the difficulty in accessing the practice by telephone is frustrating. The extended hold times seem disproportionate and suggest the reception team may be stretched. Attempts to locate alternative contact methods have been unsuccessful. This ongoing issue appears to be deteriorating, and it is intended to raise these concerns during the next appointment.

Phone triage adds unnecessary steps to appointments

When you ring to request a GP appointment, the receptionist asks the GP to assess your case and calls you back. You may then be offered an appointment, though it might be with a nurse or pharmacist rather than a GP. While these professionals are competent, they need to consult with the GP afterwards, return to discuss the GP's decision, and if a prescription is needed, it must be submitted for a GP to authorise later in the day. The entire process from initial call to completion takes around 50 minutes, despite what could potentially be resolved in a brief ten-minute GP consultation. This approach feels counterproductive rather than an improvement, as it creates additional steps for staff and introduces the possibility that something significant could be overlooked.

Reception helpful but pill check felt rushed

I attended what I believed was my routine contraceptive review last October, but the appointment consisted mainly of questions rather than the physical checks I anticipated. I have since been scheduled for a follow-up appointment in April, at which point I expect to have my blood pressure and weight measured. Should these checks not take place, I will seriously consider switching to a different practice. The reception team have been helpful throughout.
