I have been a long-standing patient at this practice and have consistently received excellent care throughout my time there. The entire team, including clinical and administrative staff, have always demonstrated genuine compassion and attentiveness. Accessing appointments with a clinician has been straightforward, with consultations typically available within 24 hours, and home visits have been provided promptly when needed. I relocated out of the area and had to transfer to another practice, but I wanted to express my strong recommendation for this surgery as a patient-focused healthcare provider. The responsiveness of the telephone service is particularly noteworthy, with calls generally answered very quickly and minimal waiting times. In comparison, my experience at my current practice has been considerably less satisfactory, and I have found that some surgeries appear to prioritise administrative and financial concerns over delivering quality patient care.

Reception staff unwilling to take responsibility

The clinical team members appear to perform their duties competently, however the reception and administrative personnel fall considerably short of expectations. They tend to be evasive, employ questionable tactics, and demonstrate reluctance to acknowledge responsibility for their actions. It seems the NHS increasingly prioritises administrative functions being completed at the discretion of support staff, with little accountability. When questioned about their conduct, explanations offered are often inadequate, and patients are expected to accept them without question. Failure to do so can result in being treated unfavourably by the administrative team collectively. Alternatively, patient concerns are reframed as matters of staff welfare and rights, regardless of the negative impact on patient experience or potential health implications. This represents a significant imbalance in fairness. Having attended this practice for several months, I have observed administrative staff engaging in some of these problematic behaviours. Mutual respect, dignity and consideration should be fundamental principles that apply to all parties involved in healthcare interactions.

Felt at ease discussing sensitive health concerns

It was my first time visiting the GP for a sensitive health concern, and I was quite anxious and overwhelmed with worry and uncertainty. However, I was fortunate to be seen by a clinician who was absolutely wonderful. Not only did they provide excellent care for my health, but they were also lovely to speak with. They demonstrated great knowledge, sensitivity, understanding, patience and genuine compassion. I immediately felt at ease and felt confident in both discussing my concerns and receiving expert medical attention. A colleague I also saw was equally great. I left feeling very impressed with the overall experience. Highly recommended. ♥️

Switched to this GP practice following a house move. I was apprehensive initially, as I had valued my previous GP highly and had set demanding expectations. I've been pleasantly surprised by the experience so far - the clinician demonstrated attentiveness and explored matters beyond the reason for my appointment, adopting a comprehensive approach to my health. My partner has also been equally satisfied, as this is the first practice that critically reviewed a medication he had been prescribed for an extended period and worked towards identifying a more suitable long-term alternative (rather than simply continuing the existing prescription as previous practitioners had done). Appointment availability is reasonable - there is a same-day booking option available if you contact the practice early in the morning for the following day. For other appointments, you typically need to plan ahead by one to two weeks, though this system appears sensible given that not all consultations are time-critical.

It is difficult to secure an appointment despite informing reception staff about significant mental health concerns. The practice's approach is disappointing. Remote consultations are not effective for my needs, and I would benefit from in-person visits with a clinician. This has been an ongoing issue at this surgery, extending back before recent times.

I've been in this area for a few years now and it seems to me this is a decent GP practice by local standards. The waiting times are very short, most of the clinical staff are satisfactory, though I did have a less positive experience with one particular clinician, and they offer regular health clinics on a weekly basis.

Dismissed and disbelieved about chronic pain

I had a very poor experience at this practice. In 2014, I experienced significant back pain and was initially told it was psychological in nature. After seeking a second opinion and undergoing imaging, I received a diagnosis of degenerative disc disease and osteoarthritis with a protruding disc affecting a nerve. I underwent surgery in November and had some relief for a period. Following the birth of my child in 2016, I registered at this practice due to its convenient location. My back pain returned severely, and I attended physiotherapy sessions, though the exercises seemed to worsen my condition rather than improve it. The practice also suggested acupuncture, but I was unable to attend the appointment due to mobility issues and couldn't reschedule. During consultations, I felt the clinician was dismissive of my pain and suggested I was exaggerating my symptoms to obtain medication. To demonstrate I was not dependent on pain relief, I stopped taking my prescribed medication for a month, enduring considerable daily pain as a way to prove this point. I recently attended a specialist appointment where the consultant reviewed my medical history and expressed concern about my management. I was prescribed appropriate pain relief and muscle relaxant medications at therapeutic doses. When I requested my routine prescription from the practice following this specialist appointment, I was informed the next day that one of the clinicians was reducing my pain medication, despite me only receiving minimal doses. This made me feel further stigmatised and left me without adequate pain management. I will not be returning to this practice. A staff member also made comments about medication duration that contradicted what I know from my own experience and that of others I know who take similar medications long-term. This practice appears to forget their role as general practitioners and not specialists. Patients should not be made to feel judged or left in pain due to assumptions. I believe the standard of care provided fell short of what should be expected, and I intend to pursue this matter further.
