Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals a practice significantly challenged by appointment access and booking system dysfunction. Patients consistently report difficulty reaching the surgery by phone, with congested lines and limited same-day availability creating barriers to care.

The reception experience emerges as a persistent concern, with multiple accounts of discourteous and dismissive interactions, though some patients describe supportive staff. In contrast, clinical staff including doctors and nursing teams receive frequent praise for professionalism, compassion, and medical competence, with particular recognition for vaccination programme efficiency and responsive care during urgent situations. The disconnect between strong clinical performance and administrative dysfunction represents the core tension in patient feedback, with many attributing their decision to switch practices to booking frustrations rather than clinical concerns.

Friendly Staff Helped Me Through My Blood Test

I visited the medical clinic on Thursday for a blood test. The front desk staff are exceptional at what they do, incredibly supportive and kind. They handle a challenging role with grace. Since I hadn't consumed sufficient water, the nurse Adrian was particularly understanding and patient while I finished my drink. It's truly an excellent healthcare facility. The staff are clearly committed to providing the best possible care under the circumstances, and any challenges are certainly not of their making.

Morning Wait Turned Into Frustration

Terrible customer service. They consistently fail to return calls as committed. Despite completing all administrative requirements, booking appointments online remains impossible. Arriving at 8am results in a 30-minute wait, yet securing an appointment is still unattainable. I'm definitively changing healthcare providers due to this substandard medical practice.

One Last Good Doctor Left

Absolute nightmare of a medical practice. While I've been a lifelong patient and some doctors here used to be incredibly compassionate, now there's just a single physician worth seeing. The mental health support is dismally inadequate, with excruciatingly long wait times. When you're in a critical emotional state, they essentially dismiss your concerns entirely.

Frustrated Veteran Seeks Basic NHS Care

I'm simply attempting to secure a medical consultation, yet I've repeatedly encountered obstacles. Calling 111 proves ineffective, and spending 8 hours in A&E is equally frustrating. Despite numerous phone attempts, I've been unsuccessful. Even as a veteran, navigating the NHS feels impossible. They repeatedly tell me to call back tomorrow, which defeats the purpose of my current call. I'm explicitly requesting an appointment, but receiving nothing but circular responses. The service is absolutely unacceptable. I'm seriously considering contacting my Member of Parliament, as these procedural failures are completely intolerable and demand immediate intervention.

Endless Wait, Zero Care at 8am Queue

I've been attempting to secure a medical appointment for half a year while struggling with severe urinary and bowel issues. After visiting A&E, where they deemed my condition non-critical following numerous tests, I was directed to my GP who consistently fails to return my calls. Despite being a 20-year patient who's never required their services, their communication is abysmal! Every morning at 8am, you're guaranteed to be 30th in the queue. Attempt to call at 7:59, and the line is closed; call at 8:00, and you're immediately 30th, with a 30-minute wait. The reception staff are utterly heartless - possibly over-vaccinated and completely incompetent! They take your number, promise a callback in the afternoon around 5-5:30pm, but never actually offer an appointment or invite you in. I've endured months of this, taken three different antibiotics, never seen a doctor, and consulted 111 medical professionals. I've now registered with Pangbourne practice, and I strongly advise: AVOID THIS PRACTICE AT ALL COSTS. They even overlooked my wife's cancer diagnosis, showing complete indifference. In contrast, Boathouse in Pangbourne answered my call at 4pm, provided an immediate appointment, and resolved my situation through direct, human interaction.

Terrible care for my nan's surgery needs

Absolutely dreadful medical procedure. They completely failed to provide my grandmother with her necessary medications, forcing her to wait endlessly and then only dispensing a fraction of what she desperately required. An utterly incompetent facility.

Impossible to Book a Post-Birth Checkup

If you're seeking a medical practice that actually provides timely appointments, steer clear of this one. I found it impossible to schedule a postpartum check-up within the necessary timeframe, and when I needed a blood test, they bizarrely suggested a telephone consultation - how exactly does one conduct a blood draw over the phone? It's a complete misuse of healthcare resources. The sole silver lining in this abysmal service was the eventual referral to RBH for blood testing after their initial reluctance to see my sick 7-month-old, which unexpectedly revealed additional health concerns, though this clearly deviated from their standard protocol.

Frustrating visit with unhelpful doctors

My surgical experience has been far from satisfactory. The medical professionals appear ineffective, primarily relying on medication prescriptions and NHS referrals, which are essentially useless. I've repeatedly reached my limit with these doctors, who become dismissive when I seek help, often responding with unhelpful attitudes like "What do you want me to do?" This has been my ongoing struggle for the past twelve months. Ironically, the pain clinic staff seem more compassionate and understanding. In fact, I've received more practical guidance from the reception staff than from the actual doctors. While I'd like to seek alternative medical care, every practice seems to have similar shortcomings, and private treatment is financially out of reach for me.

Quick Meds and Helpful Nurses

Overall, I'm satisfied with this medical practice. Given my son's multiple health challenges, we frequently need medication, and they consistently transmit prescriptions to our pharmacy within a day. It's comforting that I don't have to constantly follow up or chase paperwork. During one slightly chaotic incident, I sought assistance, and a compassionate nurse stepped in to help, which prevented us from having to spend hours at the emergency room. While securing an in-person consultation seems challenging, I appreciate that they consistently offer telephone consultations whenever I'm concerned. The few times we've met with our general practitioner, she has been remarkably understanding and compassionate. I would definitely suggest this surgery to others.

Terrible Service After 17 Years at Surgery

I've been a patient at this medical practice for nearly two decades, and the quality of service has dramatically declined. The receptionist now attempts to play doctor during phone calls, actively discouraging patients from securing appointments. Securing a consultation seems to require extensive pleading and negotiation. Physicians are now conducting diagnoses remotely, displaying a dismissive and unsympathetic attitude. While I understand the staff are experiencing significant workplace pressures, it's crucial to remember that patients aren't seeking medical attention for enjoyment. Making individuals feel ashamed or burdensome when seeking help fundamentally undermines the principles of preventative healthcare. For anyone struggling with mental health concerns or potentially serious medical conditions, I cannot recommend this practice. The current approach seems more likely to discourage patients from seeking necessary medical intervention. Consequently, I am currently in the process of transferring to another medical practice. I genuinely hope they can restore their previously excellent reputation - this surgery was once considered among the finest in Reading.

Cancelled Blood Test Ruins My Morning

The entire booking procedure is utterly absurd. I scheduled a standard blood test, only to have it abruptly cancelled just an hour beforehand, with a text promise to reschedule - which never materialized. When I followed up, they bizarrely claimed the appointment should never have been made and suggested I consult my doctor about whether I even need the test. Despite these multiple administrative failures, I'm now forced to join the morning crowd, desperately dialing at 8am to secure an appointment. One has to wonder if medical practices are genuinely committed to patient care, or simply trapped in antiquated, inefficient systems that make accessing healthcare unnecessarily complicated. It feels like my national insurance contributions are being squandered on such disorganized operations.

Tilehurst Village Surgery: Total Disaster

The surgical practice is an absolute disaster. Utterly unprofessional and woefully under-skilled. Even a single star rating feels overly generous for this incompetent team. The reception staff treat patients like potential criminals, arbitrarily modifying medical notes without notification, while doctors mockingly laugh when patients explain their concerns. Their phone manner is abrupt and hostile. Reception employees are so inept they cannot even schedule a basic blood test, demonstrating a complete lack of understanding of their own administrative systems. Tracy Craig, the practice manager, represents the most unprofessional and incompetent staff member I've encountered in the NHS. Her conduct is reprehensible, and I'm astounded she's permitted to interact with patients. She rudely terminated our conversation by childishly shouting 'byyyyeee' when confronted with criticism about the front-line staff. If the team at Tilehurst Village Surgery is so dissatisfied, they should resign and allow compassionate professionals who genuinely understand patient anxieties to take their place. The team's behavior is utterly unacceptable. They defensively resist any patient inquiry with extreme hostility. The customer service at B&M retail stores far exceeds the treatment received here. Anyone with the opportunity should absolutely change medical practices immediately!

Frustrating Appointment in the Pouring Rain

I initially felt hopeful about the surgical procedure, but during the application process, I was repeatedly denied three times due to not checking an irrelevant box in their system. I presumed this was simply typical bureaucratic inefficiency and tried to move forward. Unfortunately, my very first scheduled appointment was abruptly cancelled less than an hour before the meeting, while I was already traveling through rainy conditions. Upon arriving at their office, they made no effort to reschedule and instead instructed me to contact them and arrange a new time myself. Additionally, a specific task they had requested could not be completed because the designated nurse was unavailable, despite this task being their own explicit requirement. Ultimately, I wasted two hours and spent unnecessary bus fare. Despite these frustrations, I'm willing to give the team another chance and will be meticulously detailed in all future interactions, as they seem to lack effective internal communication and fail to review patient profiles thoroughly before making decisions.
