Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals a practice significantly challenged by appointment access and booking system dysfunction. Patients consistently report difficulty reaching the surgery by phone, with congested lines and limited same-day availability creating barriers to care.

The reception experience emerges as a persistent concern, with multiple accounts of discourteous and dismissive interactions, though some patients describe supportive staff. In contrast, clinical staff including doctors and nursing teams receive frequent praise for professionalism, compassion, and medical competence, with particular recognition for vaccination programme efficiency and responsive care during urgent situations. The disconnect between strong clinical performance and administrative dysfunction represents the core tension in patient feedback, with many attributing their decision to switch practices to booking frustrations rather than clinical concerns.

Quick Same-Day Appointment for My Kids

I've been a patient at this practice ever since relocating to Tilehurst a few years back. Scheduling appointments has always been seamless, and when it comes to my children, I can typically secure a same-day slot within just a few hours. Recently, I had an exceptional consultation that truly impressed me. The doctor's approach was remarkably contemporary and progressive, demonstrating cutting-edge medical thinking during our conversation. A wonderfully welcoming and competent healthcare team that I deeply appreciate ❤

Confused About My Registered Doctor

I've been a patient at this medical practice for nearly two decades, and until recently, I had no complaints. The receptionists remain courteous and helpful. However, my frustration stems from the uncertainty surrounding my registered physician. My original doctor departed without notice, and after being assigned to a partner, I discovered his name has vanished from the practice's board. I'm now completely in the dark about my designated doctor. I've been consulting various physicians via phone, who seem entirely unfamiliar with my medical history and personal background. They haven't even bothered to review my medical records before our conversations. While I'm flexible about medication adjustments, I desire consistent medical oversight. Each doctor I've spoken with since the lockdown presents conflicting recommendations, which is immensely perplexing and aggravating. Moreover, these physicians interrupt me constantly, preventing me from fully explaining my symptoms. Their condescending communication style is deeply offensive. They address me as if I'm a child, despite my extensive professional background as a nurse and over 30 years of caregiving experience. I am a knowledgeable, experienced professional and resent being spoken to in such a patronizing manner.

Quick Care After Finding a Lump

I attempted to submit this review a week ago but noticed it didn't appear. Being 77, I understand electronic mishaps can occur, so I'm reposting. I was curious about the "phone consultation with a doctor" experience. In short... outstanding. To preserve some discretion, I'll mention I discovered a concerning lump. After just two phone calls, I connected with a receptionist. She was incredibly supportive and assured me a doctor would contact me that morning. True to her word, the physician rang me, listened attentively, and immediately said, "I'll see you at the clinic today." Remarkable service. This consultation led to a scan referral at RBH, a blood test, and preventative antibiotics in case of an infection. I was truly astonished and immensely grateful for the rapid, comprehensive care. I sincerely say, "Thank you immensely - I could not have asked for more thorough attention."

Impossible to Book a Doctor's Slot

Scheduling a consultation here is impossible. The myGP platform consistently shows zero available slots, rendering it utterly useless. Every morning at 8am, attempting to book feels futile as the phone lines are perpetually congested and overwhelmed.

Frustrating Asthma Medication Runaround

Absolutely subpar care. I've been trying to get my ongoing asthma prescription renewed, and the GP keeps dodging the electronic submission with ridiculous justifications like "the doctor couldn't transmit it digitally that day". Are you kidding me??? Their explanation was that "you should have received a notification to collect the medication". No such call ever happened. Their response was a dismissive "I apologize that the system failed you this time" This time??? This is a recurring issue. The front desk staff are unhelpful and discourteous. No support whatsoever is provided.

Long-Time Patients Fed Up with Poor Care

After being loyal patients at this medical practice for over four decades, we've reached a point where we can no longer tolerate their substandard care and are switching healthcare providers. Securing an appointment is incredibly challenging, and when you finally do see a doctor, you feel rushed and unwelcome, as if you're an inconvenience being timed. Following a recent urgent A & E visit recommended by 111, where I received treatment and was advised to follow up with my regular doctor the next day, I was unable to schedule an appointment for two full days. The hospital referral I critically needed was not processed until I personally intervened today, and would have remained unaddressed otherwise. Adding to our frustration, we've encountered multiple instances of dismissive and insensitive interactions with three different physicians. Having been relatively healthy and infrequent visitors to the practice, this experience has exposed the comprehensive decline in their professional standards and patient care, making our departure inevitable.

Doctor's Missed Calls Drove Me Crazy

Called the office repeatedly to arrange a physician consultation, providing a mobile contact number with explicit callback instructions. Despite this, the doctor inexplicably chose to dial an unattended landline and left a voicemail message. The patient remains seriously ill, and we've already squandered 5 precious hours of potential treatment time. Frustratingly, the rating system doesn't allow me to express the full extent of my dissatisfaction with zero stars.

18 Years of Fantastic Care at Tilehurst

I have been a patient at the Tilehurst Village Surgery for nearly two decades. Unlike the numerous negative reviews, I can speak from genuine, long-standing experience about the exceptional service provided by their entire staff. I feel genuinely disappointed reading criticisms from those seemingly intent on finding fault, simply to complain about minor inconveniences. The initial interaction typically involves Reception staff, whom I've consistently found to be courteous, understanding, and empathetic. Regardless of challenging patient interactions, they maintain remarkable professionalism. Their demeanor reflects the respect they receive - provoke them unfairly, and you won't see their best side. Discourtesy is always unacceptable. The doctors demonstrate outstanding professional expertise, truly second to none. Patients are incredibly fortunate to have such high-caliber medical professionals. They personally escort patients, carefully listen to their concerns, and provide precise assessments and treatments. Throughout significant medical challenges, I've experienced nothing but clear, thoughtful professional judgment, ultimately feeling immense relief and gratitude upon recovery. For specialist referrals, they possess excellent knowledge about directing patients to the most appropriate consultants and treatments. The nurses are not only highly professional but also compassionate, addressing patient anxieties with genuine care. The surgery's atmosphere is consistently pleasant, with staff delivering superb treatment regardless of patient attitudes. I'm convinced some complaints are fabricated by non-patients who don't truly understand the practice's operations. Consider the challenging healthcare landscape: surgeries now manage significantly increased patient loads with reduced funding and staffing. How many would perform effectively under such constraints? This surgery represents medical practice at its finest. Before criticizing, individuals should reflect carefully and appreciate the exceptional care provided. In my extensive experience, I've encountered no better medical practice.

Vaccination Delays Drove Me to Switch Surgeries

I've been registered with this medical practice since relocating to Tilehurst a year and a half ago. Initially, it appeared to be a decent surgery with straightforward appointment booking. However, their recent changes to the appointment system have rendered it extremely problematic, ineffective, and exasperating. Securing routine, non-urgent appointments has become incredibly challenging. For urgent consultations, patients must endure a stressful early morning phone call, competing with numerous others, frequently resulting in engaged lines. The practice has essentially devolved into a telephone triage service, with minimal actual consultation availability. The breaking point for me came when my infant son fell a month behind on his vaccination schedule due to apparent nursing staff shortages. They were unable to schedule his second round of vaccinations after the first, instead suggesting I return a week later to check availability. Consequently, I've transferred our family to an alternative Tilehurst surgery. My children's healthcare is far too critical to tolerate such inefficiency. I should note that the clinical staff remain pleasant and professional; it's purely the abysmal administrative system that renders this practice unacceptable.

Frustrating Wait Times at This Clinic

Scheduling here is a nightmare - urgent care feels like a game of chance, and typically there are zero future time slots available until they randomly release more weeks down the line. The front desk employees consistently appear irritated, and continuity of care is virtually nonexistent since you're unlikely to consult with the same physician on subsequent visits.

Medication mix-ups drive me crazy

Every time I use their online platform to request my prescription, they consistently mess up the order, forcing me to call and resolve the issue. The ironic part is their recorded message warns against aggressive communication with staff, yet they have no problem speaking to patients condescendingly, treating them like they lack intelligence. What's more, they never acknowledge or apologize for their repeated errors.

Terrible service with impossible phone access. Pressing medical needs are brushed aside, and both my spouse and I have suffered incorrect diagnoses in recent weeks. For a more compassionate and competent experience, I recommend seeking care at the Potteries medical center.

Got an Appointment After Persistent Calling

I rarely leave feedback, but after seeing other reviews, I felt compelled to share my experience! This medical practice stands out from the rest! Sure, waiting times can be long - around 9 out of 10 times you'll wait - but they're clearly dedicated to providing comprehensive care for everyone, so what can you really expect?! The front desk staff are absolutely delightful and likely just exhausted from constant unwarranted criticism! They genuinely cannot control appointment availability and absolutely do not deserve the harsh treatment they receive! Getting an appointment requires persistent calling starting at 8am, with the phone lines consistently packed, but if you keep dialing you'll eventually connect! This process was identical at my previous healthcare provider, and it's honestly just a standard expectation, so why do people complain about something so normal?!

Frustrating Appointment Booking at This Surgery

Why can't they just allow advance booking for routine appointments? I require an injection every 12 weeks, which is a standard procedure that any medical staff can administer, yet booking in advance is impossible. My previous healthcare providers had no problem with advance scheduling Now, I have to mark my calendar for the next appointment, set another reminder six weeks prior, and nine times out of ten, the slots haven't even been released, forcing me to repeatedly call back. This wastes both my time and theirs. Clearly, they have nurses working standard hours who are fully capable of handling routine treatments like injections, so advance booking should be straightforward! It's no wonder the NHS is considered so inefficient - I'm tired of constantly calling to secure a simple appointment. They should either make slots available in advance or create an online booking system!

Friendly Staff Made My Doctor's Visit Bearable

I was initially hesitant to sign up with this medical practice due to previous online feedback. However, I'm glad I went ahead, as every healthcare professional I've encountered has been exceptional. The reception staff have been incredibly supportive and responsive. Phone appointments are standard these days, and I've found their booking system to be seamless. From my perspective, this is an outstanding healthcare provider, and I'm grateful to all the staff who transform what could be an uncomfortable appointment (particularly when blood tests are involved - I'm terrified of needles!) into a genuinely pleasant experience.

Worst Medical Care I've Ever Experienced

Absolutely zero stars would be too generous for this place. They repeatedly misplace prescription orders that I've hand-delivered, then absurdly claim they never received them. When I raise a complaint, their solution is to provide a completely incorrect medication substitute. The doctor is constantly distracted by her mobile phone during consultations, barely paying attention to patients. It's incredibly frustrating when securing an appointment takes an eternity, only to be rushed through and essentially dismissed. The entire practice is a complete waste of time and potentially dangerous. Stay far away from this clinic at all costs!!!!!
