Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reveals a stark contrast between clinical care quality and appointment access challenges. When patients successfully reach medical professionals, they consistently report excellent clinical care, with doctors and nurses demonstrating compassion, thoroughness, and responsiveness. However, accessing this care presents significant barriers. The appointment booking system creates widespread frustration, with patients describing phone lines as overwhelmed, same-day slots filling within minutes of the 8am opening window, and reception staff sometimes displaying discourtesy rather than support. Multiple patients report spending extended periods attempting phone contact without success, with some resorting to walk-in clinics or private providers due to inability to secure appointments through standard channels.

While some patients have successfully navigated online booking systems or experienced efficient service, the dominant pattern across reviews indicates systemic access difficulties that undermine the practice's otherwise strong clinical reputation. Reception experience varies considerably, with some praising staff warmth and professionalism whilst others report dismissive or unhelpful interactions. The practice's communication processes, particularly around phone availability and booking procedures, require substantial improvement to match the quality of care delivered once patients reach clinical staff.

Nightmare phone system ruins everything

Completely impossible to reach them. Enraged. There's no way to walk in and schedule anything, and getting through on the phone is a nightmare, especially after they overhauled their entire phone support system.

Poor!

Impossible to book an appointment in the morning

Repeatedly, you'll attempt to contact them at 8am, only to be rebuffed by an automated system claiming the phone lines are overwhelmed or that all daily appointment slots have been exhausted. When you finally manage to secure an appointment, the actual service provided is excellent. Nevertheless, their appointment scheduling process is fundamentally flawed and creates significant barriers for patients seeking medical attention. Consequently, this practice can only merit a two-star rating at best.

Great!

Years of reliable care, one phone issue

I've been a loyal patient at this medical practice for an extended period. The reception team is consistently excellent, with almost all staff members being incredibly supportive, and I've consistently received top-notch medical care from the physicians. However, their new phone system is problematic. It would benefit from a direct line for scheduling appointments, as the current setup requires navigating through a recorded message, selecting options, and then frequently encountering a busy signal. This process is frustratingly inefficient and consumes unnecessary time when trying to connect.

Tough wait but doctor was worth it

It's challenging to navigate the initial steps and communication with reception can be frustrating, but once you finally reach the doctors, they are truly outstanding and provide exceptional care.

Bad!

Frustrating phone lines and no routine checks

Newly relocated to the neighborhood, I attempted to schedule a standard consultation, but the receptionist flatly refused. Recently, with a pressing medical need and recommendation from my local pharmacy, I'm desperate to see a general practitioner. I've made numerous phone attempts without success and even tried the online e-consultation portal, which proved equally futile. My last resort is to physically visit and wait in line, hoping for a stroke of luck. 😑

Early morning appointments always work

You folks complaining about booking difficulties, I've dealt with multiple medical practices across England over a decade, and consistently, all appointments get filled by 8:05 in the morning, so if you aren't contacted early, chances are slim. Just pointing out, I've never experienced any issues.

Terrible morning at osborne practice

If I could assign a zero rating, I absolutely would. The personnel are discourteous and show zero inclination to assist patients. They instruct you to call at 8am, but the phones are never actually operational, forcing you to physically queue at the surgery before 8am, desperately hoping to secure a "telephone consultation" since they won't even schedule standard appointments!! I simply requested booking an antenatal appointment due to my pregnancy and was flatly told they don't handle such bookings - yet when I contacted the Eastney practice (part of the same organization), they immediately invited me to collect a referral pack and even apologized for the disgraceful treatment I received from the Osborne practice's receptionist. Steer clear of this surgery at all costs. If you're registered with Trafalgar, head to Eastney instead. The Osborne practice is a complete disaster, and their staff should feel thoroughly embarrassed by their abysmal service.

Rude staff and no help for my daughter

Absolutely terrible experience! I reached out to this GP practice about my daughter and encountered nothing but rudeness. They completely rejected my attempt to schedule an appointment, and when I sought to discuss the matter with a manager, they wouldn't even share a simple name. I felt like I was communicating with a faceless entity. Ultimately, I failed to secure any appointment and was forced to seek a private consultation. This is undoubtedly the most incompetent GP I've ever encountered. My strong advice: stay away from this practice!

Bad!

Ridiculous wait on a slow morning

The medical practice's service is absolutely appalling. I was forced to endure a wait exceeding an hour, only to be told they had no available appointments - and this was at 9:30 in the morning! Their excuse of being fully booked seems ridiculous, implying that every single person in Portsmouth is somehow unwell. It's completely unacceptable to inform a patient at such an early hour that there are no spaces left for the entire day. Their scheduling and patient management is a complete shambles. The sole marginally positive aspect is that the location is conveniently accessible.
