Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reflects a mixed experience with significant challenges in appointment access and communication systems, alongside notable strengths in clinical care. Patients consistently report difficulty scheduling consultations, with many describing lengthy phone queues, restrictive booking windows limited to early morning hours, and unavailable online systems. Long waiting times in reception areas and delays in receiving test results or medication reviews feature prominently across multiple reviews. Phone access remains a persistent barrier, with callers experiencing extended hold times or being unable to reach staff. Medication management issues, including delayed prescriptions and prescription misplacement, have caused concern for several patients.

Conversely, when patients do access clinical services, physicians and nursing staff receive strong recognition for compassionate, attentive care and professional medical expertise. Reception staff courtesy and helpfulness are noted positively in several accounts, and vaccination services were praised for efficient organisation. Some patients acknowledge the practice's broader capacity constraints while appreciating the dedication of individual team members.

The booking experience and communication systems require urgent modernisation to better serve working professionals and patients with time constraints. While clinical quality appears consistently strong, the barriers to accessing appointments and obtaining timely responses undermine overall service effectiveness and patient confidence in the practice.

Nurses Are Great, But Dr. Richards Needs Improvement

I want to commend the nursing staff at Tynycoed surgery - they absolutely deserve a perfect rating. However, as of today (Christmas Eve 2023), I've been stuck in a frustrating limbo waiting 11 weeks for a telephone consultation with Dr. Richards. Despite my repeated attempts to secure an appointment or even a simple call back, including early morning calls to reception at 8:15am, I've been met with nothing but silence. I'm completely defeated at this point. I truly hope I can eventually get the medical attention I need.

Impossible to Book a Doctor's Appointment

Attempting to schedule a routine medical consultation is an exercise in futility. The phone system is a labyrinthine maze designed to trap callers in an endless waiting line. Miss that razor-thin window of opportunity at 08:00:01 AM, and you'll be so far back in the queue that the eventual response is either a dismissal to call back tomorrow or a suggestion to use the e-consult, which vanishes faster than available slots. Short of being on death's door, your chances of securing an appointment are virtually nonexistent. The entire process is maddening, disheartening, and fundamentally harmful to patients seeking basic healthcare support. Coordinating medical access around one's professional commitments has become an absurd and stressful ordeal.

Impossible to Book an Appointment Here

Scheduling an appointment at this surgery is an absolute nightmare. I spent four consecutive days attempting to secure a slot, but ultimately abandoned my efforts. Their system requires calling precisely at 8am, only to be stuck in a queue around position 20, and after enduring a 30-minute phone wait, you discover all appointments are already gone. It seems this booking process is tailored exclusively for individuals without work commitments. Despite the frustrating scheduling, I must acknowledge that the staff themselves appear genuinely pleasant and helpful.

Caring staff helped calm my nerves

I just had my initial in-person consultation with Dr Penry, and from the moment I arrived at reception through to the consultation itself, the entire experience was incredibly warm, professional, and top-notch. As someone who struggles with stress and anxiety, I was immediately made to feel comfortable and relaxed. Sincere thanks to all the wonderful staff members who contributed to making this such a positive visit.

Missed Call, Missed Surgery Appointment

Absolutely dreadful surgical experience. I was initially scheduled for a morning consultation at 9 AM and waited patiently by my phone all day. When 4 PM arrived with no contact, I attempted to follow up. Their response was a dismissive apology, claiming I had somehow missed their call - which was impossible given that my phone never left my side and had full signal strength throughout the entire day.

Compassionate care from Dr Foley at reception

The staff member at reception was incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming. Dr. Foley is an exceptional physician! She demonstrated genuine care and empathy, making me feel truly heard and valued, unlike my experiences at other medical practices where I often felt like just another patient being shuffled around. The sole drawback is the restriction to telephone consultations, which can be challenging given my work schedule and limited phone accessibility.

Customer Service Needs Major Improvement

Severe withdrawal symptoms due to delayed medication delivery. I reached out to inquire about potential solutions, like obtaining a prescription from an alternative source, only to be met with a flat-out rejection. Their response showed zero compassion or understanding. Despite this, the online consultations for doctor calls are exceptional, and the physicians themselves are consistently outstanding, demonstrating remarkable dedication to patient care.

Endless Waiting for a Simple GP Appointment

Attempted to contact the Surgery early in the morning, only to find it closed. Upon redialing shortly after, I was placed 35th in the queue. After enduring a grueling 40-minute wait, the representative merely directed me to an online portal, disregarding my explanation that NHS out-of-hours had advised an urgent GP consultation for my son's condition. When attempting to upload the details, the system paradoxically suggested calling back for an urgent appointment. Calling again, I was met with another lengthy wait, this time as the 21st caller. The entire experience was utterly unacceptable and deeply frustrating!!!!!!!!

Terrible Patient Care at Local Surgery

This medical practice is notorious for its poor patient care, primarily focusing solely on emergency cases. If you're experiencing prolonged pain or persistent symptoms, they provide virtually no opportunity for treatment. Their standard response is to direct patients to call 111 or visit the hospital for emergencies. When you finally manage to speak with a doctor, they typically offer only paracetamol, even for conditions requiring antibiotics or additional diagnostic tests. The lack of comprehensive medical attention is alarming. The NHS should conduct a thorough investigation into this clinic's unacceptable patient management practices.

Frustrating morning phone booking window

Scheduling a medication review is incredibly frustrating. The clinic only allows bookings during a narrow two-hour window in the morning, and you must call precisely within those times. It seems completely illogical that you can't pre-book this type of non-urgent appointment through other means. Their current system strikes me as poorly designed and inconvenient for patients.

Frustrating Hour Trying to Send Hand Photos

I've been attempting to upload images of my inflamed hand for more than sixty minutes, and the process involves navigating through an excessive number of screening questions. It would be incredibly helpful if you could provide a direct email contact for submitting condition-related photographs with greater ease. I'm frustrated and giving up - this system seems poorly designed and inefficient.
