Patient feedback reflects a mixed experience across appointment booking, reception interactions, and clinical care. Appointment availability and booking processes are frequently praised as efficient and straightforward, with many patients reporting swift access to consultations. However, reception experience presents a significant concern, with multiple accounts of dismissive and discourteous interactions, particularly regarding triage decisions and emergency situations. Clinical care quality is similarly inconsistent, with strong positive feedback about compassionate physicians and professional staff contrasting sharply with reports of dismissive attitudes, poor responsiveness to urgent requests, and inadequate support during critical health situations.
Communication and responsiveness emerge as key problem areas. Several patients experienced delayed callbacks, unmet promises regarding same-day consultations, and insufficient urgency in handling emergency presentations. Document processing delays and inconsistent follow-up on referrals have also been noted. Conversely, many patients commend the practice for excellent communication, timely assistance, and supportive care experiences.
Staff courtesy and compassion vary considerably across reviews. While numerous patients highlight warm, welcoming receptions and attentive clinical interactions, others report condescending attitudes and lack of empathy. The practice demonstrates capability in delivering high-quality care, yet service consistency remains a challenge, with some patients experiencing exceptional support whilst others feel unsupported during vulnerable moments.

Bad!
Terrible healthcare experience with dismissive doctor
Spent nearly a quarter of an hour queuing on the phone early morning, only to receive a delayed callback from a physician four hours later. During our conversation, the doctor casually dismissed my serious concern, suggesting that blood in my phlegm was just a typical cold symptom and I should simply endure it.

Devastating failure of mental health support system
I reached out during the COVID-19 crisis while struggling with severe mental health challenges, specifically sharing my depression and anxiety symptoms with my healthcare provider. Instead of receiving supportive intervention, I was dismissively advised to alter my perspective, and my disclosure of suicidal thoughts was seemingly disregarded, leaving me without the critical help I desperately needed.

Friendly and professional care at uni medical centre
Booking an appointment was a breeze, and the personnel were absolutely delightful. My consultation with Cathy was exceptional; she went above and beyond to ensure I felt at ease. Her warm and compassionate approach transformed what could have been a nerve-wracking situation into a much more relaxed experience. I would absolutely encourage others to seek care at the University Medical Centre.

Terrible medical care at university health centre
I strongly advise against any student seeking medical care at the university health clinic. Despite its apparent convenience, the potential benefits are significantly undermined by the inadequate professional skills and emotional detachment displayed by some of the physicians. My personal experience has been deeply disappointing, as the doctor consistently neglected to provide necessary referrals, ultimately causing substantial detriment to my overall well-being.

Terrible healthcare that left me feeling hopeless
Completely worthless establishment, you'd be far more productive and likely to recover by simply remaining at home and hoping for healing.

Amazing service that goes above and beyond
Getting an appointment is consistently swift, and they're adaptable about prescription collection across various UK locations, with excellent phone support from doctors and specialist nurses. Tracy went above and beyond, personally reaching out after her shift to guarantee I received my prescription while traveling.

Friendly staff but pluto-remote with late appointments
It serves its purpose. Staff are pleasant. However, they consistently run behind schedule (e.g., a 15:30 appointment results in being seen at 16:00). Coming from abroad and accustomed to private healthcare, I'm unsure if this delay is standard NHS practice. Another concern: Their medication inventory is lacking. One would reasonably expect basic antibiotics like ampicillin to be readily available in such a facility. And the most glaring issue: This location is absurdly remote. Seriously... it's an considerable distance from the main University campus. EDIT/2019 I find it particularly irritating that they post an identical "we're very sorry... here are some contact numbers" response to every review that isn't a perfect rating. Don't believe me... check other reviews. Exactly the same text. This demonstrates that Google reviews won't necessarily prompt service improvements, but they will certainly inform potential patients. Additional caution: The so-called "24 hour automated appointment system" (essentially a robotic appointment scheduler) is non-functional on weekends. It's utterly ridiculous. An AUTOMATED SYSTEM that takes days off? Completely nonsensical.

Fantastic medical care that truly makes a difference
Scheduling an appointment was a breeze, and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming and supportive. I managed to secure a consultation within days of calling. My physician was exceptional - highly competent and clearly knowledgeable about my health concerns. Unlike my previous medical provider, the treatment recommended here actually made a meaningful difference in my condition.

Terrible emergency care at university medical centre
As an international student unfamiliar with the UK's NHS system, I typically rely on private healthcare. However, an emergency situation arose when I unexpectedly fainted and lost consciousness twice in one day, also sustaining a leg injury. I was brought to the UMC seeking medical attention, only to be met with bewildering instructions from the receptionist to "book an appointment" for the following day. I was shocked to discover that this "university medical centre" does not accommodate walk-in patients, which seems counterintuitive. Prior to my visit, I had reviewed their website, which explicitly stated that losing consciousness constitutes an emergency. Despite this, my situation was not treated with the urgency I expected. Adding insult to injury, the receptionist casually suggested I clean my own wound when I return home. Rest assured, I will never voluntarily return to this facility unless absolutely compelled. In case of a genuine emergency, I strongly advise calling 999 for proper medical assistance.

Rude receptionists ruined my medical experience
I cannot endorse this medical practice. The front desk staff were incredibly judgmental and discourteous. I arrived at the surgery shortly after relocating to Bath due to a knee injury. The receptionist insisted I didn't require an urgent consultation simply because I had managed to walk to the clinic! Ultimately, I was referred to a consultant who ordered an MRI, which confirmed a fracture in my knee. In stark contrast to the receptionist's attitude, the doctor was compassionate and supportive. It's unfortunate that the non-medical personnel are so unhelpful, as this significantly undermines the entire practice. They should absolutely not be making uninformed comments, given they lack medical expertise. As a result of this negative experience, I have since transferred to a different surgery in Bath, the Widcombe Surgery, which I can enthusiastically recommend (as detailed in my other review).
