Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reveals a deeply polarised experience at this practice, with significant challenges in appointment access and reception experience contrasting sharply with positive feedback about clinical care. Many patients report substantial difficulties securing appointments, with common complaints about lengthy waiting times for bookings, restrictive phone-in systems requiring calls at precise times, and extended gaps between initial contact and available slots. Reception experience emerges as a critical concern, with multiple reports of discourteous, dismissive, and unhelpful staff interactions, though some patients praise individual receptionists for exceptional support. Communication issues are frequently cited, including poor follow-up, unresponsive staff, and inadequate explanation of procedures or requirements.

Where clinical care is discussed positively, patients commend the professionalism, thoroughness, and compassion of nursing staff and certain doctors, with particular appreciation for those who demonstrate attentiveness and provide clear explanations. However, negative clinical feedback includes concerns about rushed consultations, inadequate examinations, and instances where patients felt their concerns were dismissed or not properly investigated. The practice environment receives mixed reviews, with some patients noting welcoming and well-designed waiting areas whilst others describe it as cramped and unreliable.

The overall picture suggests systemic pressures affecting service delivery, with appointment availability and reception courtesy representing the most consistent sources of patient dissatisfaction, whilst clinical expertise and nursing support are frequently highlighted as strengths when patients successfully access care.

Struggling healthcare service with good intentions

As with most medical facilities today, this practice struggles with being overloaded and underfunded. Considering these challenges, the overall professionalism of the doctors, nurses, and staff remains commendable. Nevertheless, there have been a few instances where missed diagnoses have led to unnecessary operations and ongoing treatment. It's difficult to blame the general practitioners, given the immense constraints and pressures they face. So why 3 stars? The new phone-in system. In theory, it sounds effective and could potentially work well. The GP operates a phone triage service where the receptionist determines the urgency of your appointment by inquiring about the nature of your call. A doctor then phones you to ask more medically specific questions to assess the severity of your situation. It is modeled after the A&E triage system, which has proven successful. However, there's a significant flaw in this clinic's implementation. The initial screening is conducted by receptionists with no medical qualifications who ask about the nature of your call to gain a general understanding of your condition. This is where the system breaks down. Receptionists gaining insight into patient medical conditions raises serious data privacy concerns. Moreover, if this system is based on the A&E triage process, shouldn't nurses be conducting these assessments? The lack of in-person interaction makes it particularly risky for patients with mental health issues, as phone consultations make it challenging to detect body language cues related to anxiety and depression. Additionally, men are more likely to downplay their symptoms, making it harder to convey the urgency of their conditions. My suggestion would be to invest in application-based appointments, using platforms like Skype or the more secure WhatsApp for brief doctor triage consultations where possible. This approach is currently failing some of society's most vulnerable individuals. Given these process shortcomings, I cannot rate the surgery higher than 3 stars.

Avoid this gp surgery at all costs

Don't Sign Up Here. The personnel are delightful and incredibly friendly. NEVERTHELESS - I was enrolled at this practice throughout my three-year university stint, and during that entire period, appointment waiting periods were ridiculously long (over 3 weeks). This medical practice is overwhelmingly crowded with students. If you're advised to register here upon starting university as I was, seek out a general practitioner near your residence, and you'll have a much higher chance of getting an appointment the same day or shortly thereafter - there are numerous alternative GP practices in Bournemouth and Poole that are equally competent or superior.

Dedicated team navigates healthcare challenges with resilience

After nearly two decades with this medical practice, I can attest to their incredible team's ongoing efforts to maintain quality care despite challenging financial constraints. Staff turnover has accelerated recently, and new personnel are still fine-tuning their initial patient assessment skills, though issues are typically addressed quickly after initial missteps. While inexperienced receptionists and part-time physicians create some operational gaps, the presence of long-standing staff members gives me confidence in staying put. Among the physicians, only one exhibits a less-than-pleasant demeanor; the rest are genuinely committed to effective patient communication. The seamless integration of their medical staff, nurse practitioners, and adjacent pharmacy creates an impressively coordinated healthcare ecosystem that I find hard to leave.

Great medical care from compassionate professionals

Throughout my 14-year association with this medical practice, I've consistently been impressed by the expertise and supportiveness of both the nursing and medical staff. The reception team also deserves recognition for maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor, especially considering the challenging nature of their daily responsibilities.

Great medical care in bournemouth

I've been a patient at this medical practice in Bournemouth for slightly more than twelve months following our relocation. I'm thoroughly satisfied with every aspect of their service. The reception team has consistently been friendly and supportive, while the medical professionals—both physicians and nursing staff—are approachable and demonstrate impressive expertise.

Discriminatory service at medical practice ruins experience

The front desk staff displayed blatant disrespect, treating my partner condescendingly simply because he's Turkish. Their attitude was incredibly offensive and discriminatory. I'm absolutely changing medical practices due to this unacceptable behavior.

Terrible medical service with unprofessional and rude staff

If I could rate this lower than zero, I absolutely would. This has been the most abysmal medical procedure experience imaginable. The entire staff comes across as disrespectful, unhelpful, and arrogant - acting like they're more important than mere receptionists. Sure, everyone might have a basic first aid certificate, but that doesn't suddenly make them medical professionals. If I were managing this front desk, I would immediately terminate the entire team and start over from scratch, preferably hiring personnel without such massive attitude problems.

Terrible healthcare practice with incompetent staff

Unwelcoming front desk staff, excessively long wait periods stretching up to 60 minutes, and a cramped, unreliable clinic prone to last-minute appointment cancellations. They've managed to misplace my medical samples on three separate occasions within the past year. Physicians dismissed my concerns, essentially telling me to simply accept my situation. Driven by sheer desperation, I sought care at a private medical facility, where I was ultimately diagnosed with three serious, life-altering conditions. The receptionist maintains an inflexible stance on same-day appointments, coldly stating: "you're not hemorrhaging, so it's not an emergency" - as if someone critically injured would call a GP instead of emergency services! While appointments can be booked two weeks ahead, I'm not clairvoyant, and such a lengthy waiting period is completely unacceptable. Steer clear of this practice at all costs.

Worst customer service experience ever encountered

The front desk staff displayed an appalling attitude, treating me with complete disrespect. I was denied registration and dismissed entirely, being told to seek services elsewhere. It's infuriating to witness my hard-earned tax dollars being squandered while I'm prevented from accessing the very services they supposedly fund.

Overwhelmed clinic with frustrating appointment scheduling system

The medical staff are competent, but they appear overwhelmed by the constant influx of new trainees, seemingly in cahoots with academic institutions to recruit students. Securing a timeslot is an exercise in frustration—you must phone precisely at 8am, or risk being shut out. Attempting to schedule ahead seems equally futile.

Terrible doctors who failed me completely

I had been a patient at this medical practice in Bournemouth for an extended period, and it was an absolutely dreadful experience. The front desk staff consistently came across as curt, abrupt, and discourteous. Moreover, during consultations, I felt completely rushed and undervalued. On two separate occasions with different physicians, I requested a prostate examination, and both times I was dismissively told that I was "too young"? It was an utterly unsatisfactory healthcare encounter. Since relocating to London, I've discovered a dramatically superior level of medical care that is worlds apart from my previous experience.

Terrible service and long wait times at clinic

I scheduled a medical visit for my son Obi. Struggled to secure a timeslot for nearly a fortnight (requiring an after-school appointment). Sat in the waiting area for 45 minutes before approaching the front desk to explain I couldn't continue waiting. The receptionist claimed there was an urgent situation, but I personally witnessed the supposed "emergency" patient stroll in after we'd already been sitting there for 35 minutes. Definitely time to find a different medical practice!!
