A completely absurd procedure that forces you to make a phone call, get sent a link to complete a form, then wait endlessly for someone to review it, followed by a potential callback - and if you're fortunate, you might secure an appointment in St Albans despite residing in Harpenden. It's utterly incomprehensible how individuals in vulnerable positions could possibly manage to navigate through this utter chaos of a bureaucratic process.

I've been with this medical practice for two years, and consistently feel overlooked due to my age of 37. Communication has deteriorated to the point where personal interaction is non-existent. Instead, I'm expected to complete an extensive, generic form when I'm feeling extremely unwell, which makes articulating my symptoms incredibly challenging. The impersonal approach of sending paperwork rather than allowing a direct conversation is frustrating. Moreover, I'm routinely referred to specialists in St Albans, which raises a significant question: what purpose does a local GP surgery serve if patients can never actually see a local doctor?

Update: the situation has significantly transformed. While I wouldn't describe this as an exceptional establishment, it's evident they're now utilizing their constrained resources more effectively, and the staff's demeanor has substantially enhanced. Previous review for reference: Critical inquiries lead to prolonged interactions with automated systems, being stuck in call queues where no one responds or, if someone does answer, they instantly terminate the call. Completely inadequate. Update: the front desk staff have become so hostile at this alleged medical center that they abruptly cut off communication with patients.

Terrible service and unprofessional medical staff

I began the call with a queue message stating "5 calls ahead of you", and after nearly an hour, I was still waiting with 4 calls remaining! Upon finally connecting, I informed the receptionist about my critically low medication supply, which required a doctor's authorization for a new prescription. The staff assured me the on-call physician would contact me. When the duty doctor eventually rang, she interrogated me about using an emergency appointment, criticizing the limited availability and suggesting I should plan better. I was absolutely stunned by her unprofessional and disrespectful attitude! To endure a 90-minute wait, follow the reception's guidance to await the doctor's call, and then be spoken to in such a demeaning manner was completely unacceptable.

Terrible service and endless waiting for nothing

Utterly let down. Each time I contact the surgery, I'm stuck on hold for more than 25 minutes, and today it stretched to 40 minutes before I gave up (calling internationally). The communication is abysmal, with endless waiting for every single thing. It appears staff continually make excuses post-pandemic instead of embracing a genuine service mindset. Truly disheartening!

This medical facility and its branch in Wheathampstead are an absolute embarrassment to healthcare professionals. They demonstrate zero compassion for their patients and consistently mistreat individuals with disabilities. Their staff are discourteous, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional. The situation has become so intolerable that we have been forced to pursue legal recourse. I strongly advise anyone to steer clear of these doctors under any circumstances.

~Very rude receptionists and long waits~ In the post-pandemic landscape, securing a medical appointment has become increasingly challenging. I completed their online registration form, yet only received a response a full week later, by which time I had already pursued alternative treatment options. Despite their website claiming a 2-day response time, this commitment is rarely honored. Recently, they abruptly cancelled my scheduled appointment without any attempt to reschedule. Consequently, I was left without my critical medication, a situation that can be medically dangerous if discontinued suddenly. The receptionist's demeanor was patronizing and arrogant, adamantly claiming I did not require an emergency appointment or urgent prescription. She seemingly believed she understood my medical condition better than I did, and flatly refused to even consult a physician about providing a bridging prescription until my next appointment - which, given their previous cancellation, seemed equally uncertain. As a medical professional myself, her attempts to talk down to me were entirely ineffective. Ultimately, I transferred to another GP practice the same day, who immediately recognized the inappropriate handling of my case. They confirmed that the receptionist had essentially breached their professional duty of care, and promptly issued my medication on the spot, acknowledging the urgent nature of my situation.

What an incredible healing experience! My orthopedic specialist suggested a physiotherapist at the village surgery in June 2015, citing numerous successful patient outcomes. From my initial phone interaction with the reception team to meeting the physiotherapist, I felt instantly welcomed and completely comfortable. I was treated with utmost dignity, skill, and compassion, and most importantly, had access to a knowledgeable professional who precisely understood both her treatment approach and the specific exercises I needed to perform at home. At the beginning of my recovery, I genuinely believed I would never reach my current physical state. The pain, discomfort, and limitations initially made me feel there was no hope of improvement. (And I'm typically an optimistic person!) During occasional setbacks—which were entirely expected with this type of injury—I was consistently supported and provided with clear anatomical explanations for what was occurring. This transparency and professional approach genuinely motivated my continued progress. I felt like we were truly a collaborative team. One year later, I'm back at work, approximately 95% recovered, and still astonished by the remarkable results achieved through their exceptional support.
