Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reveals a stark contrast between clinical and administrative experiences at this practice. Medical professionals consistently receive praise for their compassion, professionalism, and clinical competence, with patients reporting positive outcomes from consultations and procedures. However, reception staff performance presents significant challenges, with recurring complaints about discourteous behaviour, appointment access barriers, and poor communication. Patients describe difficulty securing timely consultations, lengthy telephone wait times, and dismissive responses when seeking care, with some reporting extended periods unable to reach their doctor.

Appointment availability and booking processes emerge as critical pain points. Multiple patients report struggling to obtain appointments within reasonable timeframes, with some waiting weeks or facing refusals for routine services. Reception staff are frequently described as creating obstacles rather than facilitating access, with concerns raised about gatekeeping behaviour that may prevent appropriate medical consultation. Communication issues extend to phone interactions, where patients report receiving incorrect information or experiencing abrupt, unhelpful responses.

When reception barriers are overcome, patients consistently express satisfaction with the care received. This disconnect suggests the practice's clinical quality is undermined by administrative dysfunction. Several patients acknowledge healthcare sector pressures but emphasise that professional courtesy and responsiveness remain essential, particularly for vulnerable or unwell individuals seeking support during initial contact.

Terrible service leaves patient frustrated and unheard

The surgical department is in complete disarray. I'm anticipating a three-week wait just to discuss with my GP why their medical evaluation is flawed, armed with blood test results and support from other healthcare professionals. The receptionist's dismissive attitude, essentially telling me to accept the phone appointment or continue suffering with my condition, is absolutely unacceptable. Someone in management needs to address this unprofessional and inadequate approach to patient care.

Efficient healthcare with quick and helpful response

I called early in the morning at 8:30 and found myself fourth in line on their phone queue. After explaining my concern to the front desk staff, they scheduled me for a 10:15 consultation. Dr. Todd saw me right on time, diagnosed my problem, and prescribed the appropriate treatment. They also provided additional follow-up support if needed. The entire experience was excellent. Much appreciation for their professional care.

Pharmacy delays and poor service frustrate patient

I encountered a problem with my prescription, originally sent by my GP to the pharmacy last week. I initially delayed pickup due to my late work hours, but upon arrival, they didn't have my medication in stock and needed to order it. They promised it would be ready the next day, which would have been Friday. I decided to wait until Monday, but when I arrived, the pharmacy was in complete disarray, and to my dismay, my medication was still not in stock and hadn't even been ordered. A young female staff member rudely dismissed my concerns, claiming they were short-staffed. While I understand staffing challenges from my own NHS experience, her abrupt attitude was entirely unacceptable. I urgently needed my medication, and the professional approach would have been to contact me and explain the delay, rather than making excuses.

Exceptional care and compassion from helpful staff

I want to express my gratitude to the surgery for their consistently exceptional service. Specifically, I'd like to commend the staff member who assisted me with my prescription request while I was out of town. She was incredibly helpful and professional, going above and beyond to ensure my needs were met. Her support was truly outstanding. Thank you so much.

Responsive and caring medical service for patients

I recently relocated to the neighborhood and signed up with this medical practice a few days back. After scanning some of the existing reviews, I initially felt apprehensive. However, those concerns were unfounded, as I quickly received a prompt response to my inquiry through the NHS system, facilitated by a GP and their administrative staff. My concern was addressed thoroughly and with genuine compassion. My approach is always to judge based on personal experience, and so far, I'm genuinely impressed, especially considering the immense strain healthcare practices are currently experiencing.

Rude receptionist ruins patient's hopes for urgent care

I was seeking a consultation with my general practitioner regarding my continuing hospitalization and recovery process. The blonde receptionist was extremely unhelpful. When I inquired about an appointment, she coldly stated "nothing until December" and when I pressed further, she claimed those dates weren't even available yet. Despite explaining my pain and urgent medical needs, she merely stared blankly and shrugged dismissively. I requested to speak with Ms. Lippett, the surgery manager, only to be told she was absent. This has been the most appalling experience I've ever encountered at this medical practice, which previously had been consistently polite, helpful, and accommodating. What has changed? Another patient waiting at the reception was experiencing identical difficulties. I ultimately departed in floods of tears. Absolutely dreadful.

Frustrating healthcare communication leaves son worried

My elderly father set out on his mobility scooter for a routine blood test today. After he was gone for significantly longer than expected, I contacted the medical facility's front desk to check on his status. Surprisingly, the staff refused to provide any details, citing privacy restrictions. They requested his date of birth but would not confirm his arrival or well-being, despite the fact that I am his son, his primary caregiver, and the person responsible for managing all of his medical appointments and prescription needs.

Terrible service and impossible doctor appointments

The standard of care at this medical practice has drastically deteriorated. They've clearly overextended themselves by accepting far too many patients, making it virtually impossible to secure a Doctor's appointment. Their motivations for this approach escape me, as it's severely impacting long-standing patients and compromising their health outcomes. If you're registered here, you'll essentially have to accept that non-medical personnel are now controlling access to healthcare and determining your ability to see a physician. You can't even schedule a Doctor consultation for a minimum of two weeks! Who on earth can possibly wait two weeks when seeking medical attention for a genuine health concern?! There's a specific female receptionist who categorically refuses to allow patient-doctor interaction, regardless of circumstances - so anyone contemplating joining this practice should absolutely steer clear! WELLINGTON ROAD SURGERY - YOU'VE CREATED THIS CRISIS BY RECKLESSLY EXPANDING YOUR PATIENT LOAD AND NOW YOUR PATIENTS ARE SUFFERING BECAUSE OF INCOMPETENT, DISCOURTEOUS, AND POORLY TRAINED STAFF. IT IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.

Worst medical experience ever in crumbling nhs system

Abysmal. Complete garbage. This medical practice, once a model of excellence, has devolved into a bureaucratic nightmare where petty tyrants obstruct every patient's basic right to medical care. Woe betide you if you're seriously unwell - they'll exhaust every possible method to prevent you accessing a proper doctor. You'll be fobbed off with junior medical staff or paramedics, even when you've been referred through official NHS channels. This isn't just a systemic NHS problem - you'll frequently discover your designated doctor is conveniently "unavailable" or "not scheduled" on the day you need them. Certain staff members demonstrate zero compassion, responding with rudeness and callousness. Healthcare professionals who cannot maintain basic politeness and professionalism have no place in this sector. The current state of healthcare is truly the worst it has been in half a century. I'm grateful my elderly relatives are not witnessing the oppressive new regime that has consumed this town's medical facility.

Terrible service and dismissive medical staff attitude

I just received a phone call from a person named Scott regarding my complaint at this medical practice. I explained to him the difficulties in securing an appointment and the discourteous behavior of the reception staff. Scott claimed that I was the sole complainant and that all calls are addressed within 2 minutes. However, after reviewing the Google reviews, it's reassuring to discover that my experiences are far from unique. Perhaps I should consider reaching out to Alan Bates (from the post office scandal) as I'm clearly not alone in my frustrations!!!

Navigating healthcare challenges with mixed medical support

Medical professionals are exceptional when you can actually see them, but the likelihood of getting a helpful receptionist who genuinely listens and schedules an appointment varies widely. This inconsistent approach is discouraging, potentially hazardous, and emotionally draining, often resulting in patients reluctantly enduring their symptoms rather than navigating the challenging process of securing a medical consultation.

Compassionate care at its best for patients

A top-notch medical practice with healthcare professionals and administrative staff who genuinely show compassion. Given the significant residential development in Newport, their patient load has increased substantially, but they've been continuously adapting their methods and systems to effectively manage the growing demand. Since registering here in 2016, I've been thoroughly impressed by the quality of care I've experienced. I'm always made to feel like a unique person, not just another anonymous patient in the system. Heartfelt appreciation to the entire team at Wellington Road surgery.

Terrible service and unhelpful medical staff nightmare

As someone who has typically enjoyed good health, I was taken aback by the challenges of securing a medical consultation. The morning appointment process is hindered by an exceptionally discourteous receptionist who seems to act as an unnecessary gatekeeper. These administrative staff members are not qualified healthcare professionals and should not be arbitrating patient access to medical care or making determinations about the urgency of one's health concerns.
