Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reveals a practice with significant operational challenges that overshadow positive clinical attributes. Medical professionals are consistently described as competent, empathetic, and welcoming, with physicians demonstrating strong clinical skills and supportive care. However, this strength is substantially undermined by widespread access and administrative difficulties that dominate patient concerns.

Appointment availability emerges as the most critical issue, with patients reporting severe booking constraints, particularly for same-day or urgent slots that fill within hours of the phone lines opening. The booking experience is frequently described as frustrating and difficult, with reception staff displaying inconsistent courtesy and responsiveness. Communication breakdowns are common, including unresponsive phone access, delayed callback commitments, and inadequate notification regarding prescription management changes. Extended waiting times and general disorganisation compound these access barriers.

Patients seeking urgent care have been redirected to emergency departments and walk-in centres due to inability to secure timely appointments. Prescription management issues, including unexplained discontinuation without prior consultation, represent a serious concern. While some patients acknowledge the practice operates under resource constraints, the cumulative effect of these service failures significantly impacts patient confidence in the practice's ability to deliver accessible, responsive care despite the quality of clinical interactions.

Terrible care and dismissive doctors near leeds

Avoid this practice. Scheduling an appointment is incredibly challenging, especially if you can't arrive at 8 am, which is unreasonable for someone working in Leeds with a standard start time. When I had a sick baby, they were unwilling to provide emergency slots, forcing me to seek care at walk-in centers and hospital emergency departments. Even worse, they dismissed a significant gynecological issue with a dismissive comment about handling it like my grandmother would have. If you're seeking subpar care and discriminatory treatment, this surgery fits the bill. Absolutely disheartening.

Painful medication cut without warning

Prescribed pain relief abruptly discontinued without any prior discussion, despite previous commitments from my general practitioner. I'm extremely frustrated with this medical practice's approach. Attempting to file a complaint feels futile, as the Patient Ombudsman seemingly only addresses cases involving fatalities. This reflects the current state of healthcare bureaucracy - dismissive and unresponsive.

Morning calls can be tricky here

Many individuals appear frustrated with this medical practice, yet I find their complaints puzzling. Securing a telephone appointment starting at 8 AM can be challenging, even when you're near the front of the line. However, they do provide the courtesy of calling if an opening becomes available, so I always request this option when initial booking attempts fail. From my observations, most medical practices encounter similar challenges. Nevertheless, I consistently find the doctors and staff to be exceptionally welcoming and supportive. I've observed that some patients seem to prefer multiple appointments for various conditions rather than addressing everything during their initial consultation. These insights come from conversations overheard in the waiting area, and I suspect this might contribute to appointment scarcity. I believe some reviewers have been overly harsh with their one-star ratings and comments. These dedicated professionals are genuinely striving to provide care, and based on the disrespect and arrogance I've witnessed from patients interacting with staff, they are performing admirably. If anyone spoke to me in the manner some patients address the staff, medical intervention might become unnecessary. It's worth examining your own behavior: could your rudeness have prompted a corresponding response? My experience suggests this scenario is frequently the case. Many global regions lack this level of healthcare service, with access often dependent on financial means. So, pause and reflect before criticizing these hardworking individuals attempting to help. How would you feel if those you've dedicated your career to supporting constantly criticized you? It's time to cease being online critics and evaluate yourself before judging others. Personally, I believe they excel given their limited resources, and I will continue to support them as they have supported me.

Endless wait and no care at this surgery

Where to begin... Over recent years, this medical practice has deteriorated dramatically from being exceptional to being utterly substandard. Candidly, in my personal view, they scarcely merit even a single star rating. Their decline commenced after the departure of Doctors Knight and Nicholson, leaving behind only a constant stream of temporary locum physicians. Enter the merger with Bramham surgery! But wait, give them some time - no, matters have only deteriorated further. The situation has become even more dire. The practice manager exudes an air of superiority towards everyone, while the receptionists - when you can actually reach them after enduring 40-minute wait times and potential disconnections - behave like amateur triage nurses, instructing patients to call back the next day! The most absurd scenario involves desperately pleading for an appointment in front of a crowded waiting room, only to be offered a slot three weeks later on a Tuesday! Their dismissive response: "We're not an emergency service" - suggesting you should continue attempting to contact their perpetually unresponsive phone line. Four years we've tolerated this abysmal "service", with conditions worsening dramatically in the past twelve months. Emailing complaints proves futile, as the practice manager shows zero interest in addressing concerns. Consequently, I've formally submitted complaints to the ICB and CQC, and transferred myself and my family to an alternative Wetherby practice.

Waited three days for a simple appointment

I struggled to secure a medical appointment for my toddler over three consecutive days and was redirected to a distant urgent walk-in center on the outskirts of Leeds. This morning, I was second in line when the phone lines opened at 8:00am. The staff member who answered seemed genuinely empathetic about the challenges, and I truly understand they are operating under significant pressure. Nevertheless, I believe this medical practice warrants a thorough investigation for its inadequate care of young patients.

Endless wait for baby's doctor appointment

Scheduling a doctor's visit here is an absolute nightmare! I'm desperately trying to get an appointment for my infant, and despite being number 7 in line early in the morning, I still can't secure a slot. This medical practice is completely disorganized and inefficient.

Worried about lump, no quick appointment

I've discovered a concerning lump and, given the potential seriousness, I attempted to schedule a prompt medical consultation. To my shock, the earliest available slot was roughly three weeks away, as far as I recall. Considering the urgency of my situation, I'm now contemplating whether I should circumvent the Wetherby clinic and instead visit the emergency department to explain my inability to secure a timely appointment.

Slow response but compassionate doctors

Communication can be sluggish, and scheduling can be challenging, but the medical professionals here truly shine once you're face-to-face. The physicians demonstrate remarkable empathy and maintain a respectful, non-critical approach. They're incredibly responsive when discussing medication needs. Furthermore, this practice stands out in the local healthcare landscape for its exceptional support and comprehensive understanding of diverse patient populations, particularly for marginalized communities like the LGBTQ+ community.

Caring doctors helped my newborn and me

My encounters with Wetherby Surgery have been consistently positive - both my infant, who is just two months old, and I have received extensive care and assistance from their medical team, including midwives and physicians. Dr Edstam and Dr Buk-Filak are exceptional general practitioners who have been incredibly supportive. The reception team is welcoming and accommodating. Securing appointments has never been a problem for me, whether for urgent or upcoming needs (though like most practices currently, you need to call around 8am for same-day slots).

Terrible customer service and zero empathy

The reception staff were shockingly discourteous and brusque. They consistently fail to honor their commitment to return calls within the stated timeframe, and become aggressively defensive when customers must repeatedly attempt to reach them after their initial communication breakdown. Their conduct is remarkably unprofessional. It seems entirely inappropriate that individuals seeking assistance should be subjected to verbal aggression. These employees would likely be more suitable in roles that minimize direct human interaction and require minimal emotional intelligence or empathy.

Terrible service from morning till night

This medical practice is hands down the most incompetent healthcare provider we've encountered. They consistently reject patients or abruptly cancel appointments, frequently citing doctor unavailability or remote working. Their scheduling is so dysfunctional that by 8:06 am, they've exhausted all in-person consultation slots, even for a toddler, forcing us to resort to emergency services for a matter a general practitioner could have easily addressed. They turned away my husband and redirected him to a walk-in center for a routine issue that our previous GP would have swiftly handled, typically without even requiring a phone consultation before issuing a prescription. Having been in this area since mid-July, we've given them ample opportunity to improve, but our patience has completely worn out. We are definitively changing practices at the earliest opportunity. My strong advice: avoid registering here unless you enjoy bureaucratic frustration and substandard healthcare.
