Staff went above and beyond with pharmacy issue

Well, here we go. I encountered a difficulty this evening with my local pharmacy regarding a prescription item that wasn't available, and they needed the practice to help resolve the matter. I went directly to the centre and explained the pharmacy's situation to the team. I was connected with a helpful staff member who made considerable effort to locate another pharmacy that had the medication I required. I can genuinely say I received excellent support in getting my issue resolved. This person demonstrated genuine care and understanding, and they are a real asset to this practice. Well done to the organisation for having staff with such a proactive and solution-focused approach. If more people had this kind of attitude and consideration, things would be much better. Thank you again, you have my appreciation.

Receptionist wouldn't book me an appointment

It's unfortunate that there seems to be a lack of compassion in many places, including at this GP surgery. I found that the reception staff appeared to make decisions about appointments and medical advice in a way that felt beyond their typical role, which was frustrating and made me question whether appropriate boundaries were being maintained.

Communication breakdown left me without medication

I attended an appointment today regarding medication. I was told the prescription would be arranged, however I did not receive any notification about when or how to collect it. As a result, I was unable to obtain my medication for tonight. I feel that the practice did not follow through on their commitment to inform me, and this has caused me concern. This is not an isolated incident, as similar communication issues have occurred multiple times previously.

Friendly staff and quick appointment availability

As far as NHS GP clinics go, this is one of the best ones I have used. The clinical staff demonstrate genuine competence and expertise in their roles. The nursing team are particularly skilled and professional in their approach, and you have the flexibility to choose between face-to-face or telephone appointments without experiencing lengthy waiting times like some other practices. If you are considering registering with a new GP clinic, I would strongly recommend this one.

Friendly doctors but one receptionist was dismissive

The clinical staff at this practice are consistently approachable and provide appropriate care for patients' health concerns. The majority of reception team members are courteous and supportive, which is commendable given the demanding nature of their position. However, I have encountered some challenging interactions with one particular member of the reception team on multiple occasions. During one instance, when I was experiencing a severe respiratory infection, a family member contacted the surgery to request an appointment on my behalf. They were informed that no further appointments were available that day, which was understandable. The staff member suggested attending the local walk-in centre as an alternative. Due to the severity of my illness at that time, I was unable to travel independently as I do not have access to personal transport. My family member also communicated that I have experienced anxiety since childhood, which would prevent me from attending without support. The staff member responded by suggesting I was being unreasonable. On a separate occasion, whilst staying with family away from home, I ran out of my asthma maintenance medication. We contacted the practice to request that a prescription be sent to a nearby pharmacy and explained our circumstances. The staff member asked whether we could collect it from my home address, which would have required a two-and-a-half-hour round trip. They stated this was my responsibility to arrange, which I acknowledge is a fair point. I had located an inhaler with only a limited number of doses remaining, which I had not realised at the time of collection. The staff member appeared frustrated and was unable to offer a practical resolution, mentioning that processing could take up to two days. Eventually, we resolved the situation by contacting the local pharmacy directly to request they liaise with the surgery. Both of these interactions felt unnecessarily complicated and left me feeling like a burden, when a medical practice should be a welcoming place to seek healthcare support. That said, the majority of my appointments at this practice have been satisfactory, and I wanted to highlight these two specific interactions for consideration.

Staff dismissive when explaining your health concerns

The team appears to assume that calls are for non-urgent matters. They are unhelpful and seem to rush through interactions. When you contact them early, you face delays, and upon describing your concern, they typically suggest over-the-counter remedies or a pharmacy visit. I experienced a frustrating situation where my symptoms were initially attributed to one condition when I actually had a different issue. I needed to seek care elsewhere with support from a friend. Overall, I found the service to be quite poor.

I have previously spoken positively about this practice, however the current approach to patient care has become concerning. The standard procedure involves staff sending messages indicating they were unable to reach patients and requesting a callback. When contact is successfully established through this method, patients are then informed they must wait several days before receiving a clinical consultation. This pattern occurs repeatedly despite successful communication being demonstrated. I feel the practice should return to in-person appointments as many other surgeries have done, rather than continuing with arrangements that appear to prioritise operational convenience over timely patient care and service quality.
