Feedback reflects significant challenges with appointment access and phone communication, with patients reporting lengthy wait times, call disconnections, and difficulty reaching reception staff. Many describe the booking experience as frustrating, particularly when attempting to schedule appointments by phone or secure follow-up care recommended by doctors. Reception courtesy has been inconsistent, with some patients noting dismissive attitudes and abrupt call terminations after extended holds. However, the practice receives consistent praise for clinical care quality, with patients highlighting compassionate doctors and responsive medical staff. The introduction of online triage and e-consult systems has been positively received by those who have used them, offering an alternative to phone-based booking. Service quality appears to have deteriorated over recent years according to long-term patients, though some recent improvements through digital channels are noted.
While the medical professionals themselves are frequently described as professional and caring, the administrative and reception experience creates a significant barrier to accessing care. Patients express frustration about the gap between the quality of clinical care and the difficulty in obtaining appointments. Communication issues extend beyond phone access, with reports of delayed responses to messages and medication request processing problems. The practice appears to be operating at capacity constraints, with patients noting that despite supposedly full schedules, waiting rooms are often empty, raising questions about appointment availability and scheduling efficiency.
Recent positive feedback indicates that newer systems and some reception staff members are delivering improved service, with patients reporting successful same-day appointments through online triage and praising specific staff for their helpfulness and professionalism. This suggests that while systemic challenges persist, targeted improvements in digital access and individual staff performance are beginning to address longstanding concerns about service accessibility and courtesy.

Woodland medical practice saves the day
I previously visited Kingsways GP, and without a doubt, it's the most subpar medical practice in Luton. We decided to transition to Woodland, and it was absolutely the right decision. The front desk staff are incredibly competent, and scheduling appointments is remarkably efficient.

Poor!
Endless wait for a quick five-minute call
The landscape has certainly shifted over my two-decade association with this medical practice. Booking appointments used to be incredibly straightforward in the past. This morning, I found myself tethered to the phone for an exhausting 53 minutes - during which I managed to prepare and consume breakfast, and even enjoy a leisurely cup of tea. Surprisingly, once I finally connected, my actual consultation lasted barely 5 minutes and my issue was swiftly addressed. However, the prolonged waiting period was truly unbearable, made even more tedious by the mind-numbingly repetitive background music. I suppose this is just reflective of current service trends.

Friendly receptionist makes healthcare visits a breeze
I wanted to express my appreciation for BISMAH, the lovely young Asian receptionist who is incredibly kind and helpful. She consistently provides top-notch service, whether I'm visiting in person or calling the office. Her phone manner is exceptionally polite and prompt, and she has successfully resolved every issue I've encountered. Thank you for your outstanding dedication and professionalism. Woodland Surgery, continue maintaining this excellent standard of service.

Exceptional healthcare at woodland avenue medical practice
Exceptional care from Woodland Avenue today! Completed the online triage questionnaire at 8:30 AM, received a follow-up call by 9:15 AM, and was seen by Dr. Ahmed at 10:40 AM (ahead of my scheduled time). Truly grateful for the swift, efficient service and Dr. Ahmed's professionalism. Highly commendable experience.

Average!
Terrible service transformed into a patient-friendly practice
This medical practice used to be top-tier, but has now become one of the worst in the area. While the physicians themselves are competent, securing an actual consultation is virtually impossible. The front desk staff are discourteous, frequently disconnecting calls after prolonged wait times or simply ignoring incoming calls entirely. Despite seemingly constant availability of open slots, appointments remain unavailable. The recently implemented 111 system has only exacerbated the problem - I've been attempting to schedule a consultation for over four weeks without success. It's particularly frustrating that they contacted me about a necessary follow-up appointment from a hospital visit, yet refuse to actually provide said appointment. The situation is utterly absurd and they urgently need to overhaul their scheduling procedures. EDIT 2025 The situation has significantly improved. While the new triage system initially seemed challenging, it's now remarkably effective and ensures appointments are almost always accessible when needed. Carol at reception is exceptional, consistently going above and beyond to resolve issues. The doctors remain skilled and compassionate, and John Kirby, the paramedic, is both delightful and extraordinarily proficient in his role.

Exceptional healthcare from a trusted local practice
As a long-standing patient for more than two decades, I've recently had frequent interactions with my GP, Dr Ahmed. The practice has introduced some new features like online triage, which I found incredibly smooth and user-friendly. Whenever I've needed to communicate with the reception staff, they have been both professional and courteous. I'm truly impressed that during every single appointment, I've been seen without delay, and each consultation has been exceptional - demonstrating genuine care and empathy towards my personal health concerns. I couldn't imagine receiving better medical care anywhere else! My heartfelt appreciation goes out to the entire team at Woodland Avenue Surgery - you're doing an outstanding job and should be proud of the service you provide.

Unprofessional doctor dismisses serious allergy symptoms
I suffer from wasp allergies and have been experiencing breathing difficulties for the past three days. Today, I sought medical attention, arriving slightly late due to the challenging parking situation near the clinic. I apologize to Dr. Kirby, who struck me as extremely unpleasant. When I explained my breathing issues, he failed to conduct any examinations and simply prescribed medication without assessing my condition. Upon expressing my frustration that I came to seek help and improve my health, not to feel worse, he promptly dismissed me from his office.

Terrible service and unprofessional medical staff
Called the day before regarding my wife's prescription, which had been submitted over a week prior and remained unprocessed. Staff claimed the doctor was on vacation but guaranteed the prescription would be sent to the pharmacy for pickup that day. When I followed up, the pharmacy still hadn't received it. The surgery staff informed me the doctor was unavailable and I would need to call back on Monday, despite my wife urgently needing her medication. When I expressed frustration about their poor service, I was accused of being rude and the representative abruptly ended the call. To the surgery staff: if you performed your responsibilities competently, you wouldn't face criticism. This practice has significantly declined; it now appears more concerned with internal convenience than patient care.

Terrible healthcare experience that left me frustrated
A complete disaster of a general practice that has deteriorated dramatically. They show zero patient support and provide rude, dismissive responses when you call. I'm definitely switching healthcare providers immediately.

Terrible service and unprofessional staff at this clinic
SINCE DR MARSTON'S DEPARTING, THIS MEDICAL PRACTICE HAS BECOME THE ABSOLUTE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL IN THE LUTON & BEDFORDSHIRE AREA. ANY OTHER CLINIC WOULD BE AN IMPROVEMENT. JUST LOOK AT THE TESTIMONIALS - THEY REVEAL EVERYTHING. GALE, THE MANAGER, MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. LAUREN, KARINA & BISMA WOULDN'T EVEN QUALIFY FOR ENTRY-LEVEL POSITIONS AT A FAST FOOD JOINT OR TAKEAWAY BECAUSE OF THEIR ABYSMAL CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS! I DOUBT THEY COULD EVEN ARTICULATE A SIMPLE CONDIMENT ORDER WITHOUT RUDELY INTERRUPTING AND TALKING OVER PATIENTS.

Horrible medical experience with unprofessional racist staff
This surgical practice is absolutely terrible. They completely fail to provide any post-operative follow-up care. Their patient treatment is utterly neglectful, with no coherent appointment scheduling process. The staff demonstrates discriminatory behaviors, targeting and intimidating patients who struggle with English communication. Their medical approach is unprofessional, disorganized, and shockingly insensitive.

Decades of exceptional care from a caring doctor
Throughout more than two decades, Dr. Barhey and his staff have consistently delivered outstanding medical support for my entire family. His approach is deeply compassionate, with a genuine commitment to understanding patient needs and providing carefully considered guidance. Dr. Barhey always ensures a transparent treatment strategy and maintains thorough follow-up communication. The recently implemented triage system has significantly improved patient access to care. When I recently reached out using the convenient digital message link, I received a prompt same-day response, which was remarkably efficient. This streamlined process represents an impressive advancement in patient service that I sincerely hope will be maintained. I wholeheartedly endorse Dr. Barhey and his medical practice.

Terrible medical service that fails patients repeatedly
I'll share two experiences, though I could recount many more. 1. The medical staff and physicians are thoroughly inept. Recently, I required a prescription renewal for a cream, but instead of forwarding it to the pharmacy, they sent paracetamol twice. I've now surrendered and will purchase the cream directly from the pharmacy. I attempted to find the complaint process, but it's so convoluted, and I'm too unwell to pursue it. 2. The practice is incapable of executing even basic tasks like issuing repeat prescriptions. Each time I need a repeat, I must call or visit the surgery at least three to five times. They are completely incompetent and seemingly indifferent. Many patients, particularly those of South Asian origin, do not voice complaints about the substandard service. The management is abysmal, with no sense of accountability; their attitude appears to be that mistreating 'brown' and vulnerable patients is acceptable since they'll be compensated regardless. I desperately wish I could transfer to another medical practice, but unfortunately, that's not possible. I believe more individuals should share negative reviews to potentially instigate some meaningful change.

Terrible service at this medical nightmare clinic
This medical procedure is an absolute embarrassment. Trying to schedule a consultation is nearly impossible. Be prepared to endure endless waiting and frustration before you'll even get a chance to see a physician.
