Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reflects significant challenges with appointment access and phone communication, with patients reporting lengthy wait times, call disconnections, and difficulty reaching reception staff. Many describe the booking experience as frustrating, particularly when attempting to schedule appointments by phone or secure follow-up care recommended by doctors. Reception courtesy has been inconsistent, with some patients noting dismissive attitudes and abrupt call terminations after extended holds. However, the practice receives consistent praise for clinical care quality, with patients highlighting compassionate doctors and responsive medical staff. The introduction of online triage and e-consult systems has been positively received by those who have used them, offering an alternative to phone-based booking. Service quality appears to have deteriorated over recent years according to long-term patients, though some recent improvements through digital channels are noted.

While the medical professionals themselves are frequently described as professional and caring, the administrative and reception experience creates a significant barrier to accessing care. Patients express frustration about the gap between the quality of clinical care and the difficulty in obtaining appointments. Communication issues extend beyond phone access, with reports of delayed responses to messages and medication request processing problems. The practice appears to be operating at capacity constraints, with patients noting that despite supposedly full schedules, waiting rooms are often empty, raising questions about appointment availability and scheduling efficiency.

Recent positive feedback indicates that newer systems and some reception staff members are delivering improved service, with patients reporting successful same-day appointments through online triage and praising specific staff for their helpfulness and professionalism. This suggests that while systemic challenges persist, targeted improvements in digital access and individual staff performance are beginning to address longstanding concerns about service accessibility and courtesy.

Compassionate care when i needed it most

Throughout my recent health challenges over the past quarter, Woodland practice has been incredibly supportive. The reception staff have been tremendously kind and accommodating, and Doctor Ahmed and his medical team have delivered exceptional care that has truly helped me navigate a difficult period. I am deeply grateful for their compassion and professional assistance during this tough time.

Exceptional medical care with compassionate and efficient service

My experience with this surgical team has been exceptional from start to finish. They've been incredibly responsive, reaching out promptly after test results to collaborate on a comprehensive treatment strategy. Their follow-up care is thorough, and they're quick to involve specialist colleagues when appropriate. While I personally favor their phone and email communication channels, my in-person visits have been equally impressive—I've never waited more than 10 minutes for an appointment. Even if a longer wait were to occur, I'd understand that some patients may require more extensive consultation time, which naturally affects subsequent scheduling.

Poor!

Terrible service and disrespect for patients time

I arrived for my scheduled 9:10 AM appointment, but the doctor didn't appear at the surgery until 9:25 AM, with four other patients already waiting. When I voiced my concern to the receptionist, they explained that the locum doctor hadn't notified them of her delay. Having left my exclusively breastfed newborn at home, I couldn't wait any longer after sitting for a total of 35 minutes while the doctor was still seeing her first patient. The receptionists informed me they don't offer advance face-to-face appointments and instead scheduled a phone consultation over a month away. This demonstrates a complete and total disregard for patient care and professional standards. What's even more frustrating is that this isn't an isolated incident - I've previously endured waiting an hour to be seen. One can't help but wonder if the surgery deliberately prolongs wait times to push patients towards seeking private medical care.

Compassionate staff saved me from a scary moment

During my blood draw today, I passed out, and the medical team immediately sprang into action to assist me. They were incredibly attentive, continually monitoring my condition and insisting that I remain in bed for an additional half-hour to ensure my well-being. Unfortunately, I sustained a slight concussion and experienced bruising and swelling on my cheek, nose, and lip from the fall. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff who came to my aid and the nurse who promptly called for help!!

Nightmare medical experience that will make you scream

Utterly terrible, dreadful, dreadful beyond words service. Steer clear of registering with this medical practice. You're more likely to encounter the Grim Reaper before they'll even pick up the phone.

Terrible healthcare experience with endless communication delays

Completed the online registration process, but have been repeatedly attempting to contact them over the past three weeks to confirm family acceptance. Forced to reach out to a distant previous general practitioner over 30 miles away just to have a prescription mailed out. The healthcare facility is demonstrating an extremely subpar level of professional service.

Frustrating surgery turned better with econsult system

This surgery used to be top-notch, but now it's become increasingly challenging to secure an appointment for minor health concerns that don't quite justify contacting the already overwhelmed 111 service. I wish the booking process was more straightforward, even if it meant scheduling weeks ahead. For urgent medical needs, going through 111 has consistently proven more effective. This system seems designed for those with unlimited free time. If you're working or juggling childcare - you'll find it incredibly frustrating! UPDATE: As of Oct 2021 - they've implemented an eConsult platform, which is an absolute game-changer. I can now document my health issues, submit them, and await their review without disrupting my work schedule or wasting hours on hold.

Lifelong practice with great docs but scheduling struggles

I've been a patient at this medical practice for my entire life (35 years) The physicians are consistently exceptional. They've supported me through numerous health challenges over the decades. Nonetheless, scheduling an actual appointment is incredibly challenging. They're clearly struggling with limited personnel and financial resources. Fortunately, I managed to secure an after-hours consultation in the near future.

Frustrating nhs experience with endless waiting calls

I've been reading all the reviews, and they're consistent about scheduling challenges. Every morning, I attempt to call, but I'm never able to secure an appointment. I'm always greeted by the same frustrating voicemail indicating a wait time over 30 minutes. We, as taxpayers, should collectively raise our voices about this issue. The NHS is deteriorating rapidly, and the service quality continues to decline.

Terrible healthcare left me bleeding and hopeless

I've totally lost faith in medical professionals. They're never available when you require assistance. I've been battling illness for four months straight. Trust me, every single time I reach out, they claim no open consultation slots are accessible. For the past couple of days, I've been coughing up blood, which I explicitly explained to the receptionist. Her response was to suggest calling back tomorrow to check appointment availability. What happens to those who might not survive until then? Grateful to the NHS, but deeply disappointed.

Reliable local surgery with caring staff and quick appointments

I've been a patient at this medical practice for over three decades, and scheduling has never been an issue for me. Simply calling at 8am guarantees a same-day appointment. While the waiting time can be lengthy, I believe this is standard across most healthcare providers. The reception staff are consistently friendly and welcoming, and I've always been thoroughly satisfied with the medical care provided by the doctors and nurses at Woodland Avenue surgery. I want to express my gratitude for the excellent service you consistently deliver.

Scheduling a consultation proved challenging, but eConsult exceeded my expectations for my suspected ear infection. Poor!

Frustrating communication and endless waiting times

The practice has transitioned to an e-consult system, supposedly simplifying direct communication. However, this morning I've spent over 40 minutes on two separate calls waiting to reach reception, with no indication of queue length. I've additionally contacted the administration team and left three messages as instructed over the past day, yet no one has returned my calls. After completing an e-consult form, I received an email stating a response will come by January 10th!!! Unfortunately, the surgery is clearly struggling to effectively implement and manage this new technological approach to patient interactions.
