Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals a practice with a stark divide between clinical and administrative experiences. Medical professionals are consistently described as competent, empathetic, and supportive, with patients appreciating attentive listening and thorough consultations. However, this positive assessment is heavily overshadowed by severe access challenges. Appointment booking presents the most significant barrier, with patients reporting difficulty reaching the practice by phone, perpetually busy lines, and a same-day appointment system that forces high call volumes at 8am. Reception experience frustration is widespread, with complaints about staff indifference, poor communication, and lengthy waiting times both on the telephone and in person. Long delays between booking and consultation, cancelled appointments without notification, and unresponsive telephone systems are recurring themes. Several patients report being unable to access care entirely, with some experiencing health deterioration as a result. While some long-term patients acknowledge the practice's efforts and appreciate the medical care once accessed, the overwhelming pattern across reviews indicates that appointment availability and booking experience remain critical barriers to service delivery.

Beyond access issues, feedback highlights concerns about continuity of care, with patients noting frequent physician rotation and inconsistent approaches to treatment. Communication gaps extend to administrative processes, including prescription handling, medical records requests, and vaccine availability. A minority of reviews acknowledge the practice's challenges are not unique and express appreciation for NHS services despite limitations, but the majority emphasise that current systems are inadequate and require significant improvement to meet patient needs.

Terrible healthcare service with uncaring staff

I've been a patient at Woodside for years, and while I have no issues with Dr. Manchester and Dr. Brady, I can't speak for the other staff. Getting an appointment is nearly impossible, and prescription errors are frequent. Recently, my experience has been particularly frustrating. After suffering a stroke and being discharged from the hospital, they called about my blood pressure, clearly having my medical results. Shockingly, they were unaware of my recent stroke. They suggested I purchase a blood pressure machine, and when I explained our financial constraints - living on my wife's income with no benefits - their response was appalling. They even asked my wife to leave the door open for a nurse, despite her leaving for work at 5:50 am. This level of insensitivity and lack of care is completely unacceptable. Their approach is anything but compassionate or professional.

Excellent!

Lifelong patient with exceptional medical care

Throughout my entire life, I've been receiving care at this medical practice, and in almost every instance, the medical professionals and support team have been incredibly supportive. Scheduling an appointment can be challenging when calling, but that's simply due to their high demand and popularity. I encountered a minor issue with one receptionist, which was quickly resolved. I'm completely satisfied and have no intention of seeking healthcare elsewhere.

Terrible booking system drives customers crazy

They aim to minimize call volume, yet their same-day appointment system forces everyone to jam the phone lines at 8 sharp. Whoever dreamed up this brilliant strategy deserves to be locked away for their sheer incompetence.

Rude and unhelpful medical staff avoid at all costs

The personnel here epitomize pure arrogance. Upon inquiring about my appointment availability, the staff's dismissive response was to recommend I seek treatment elsewhere. Their attitude is so appalling that they merit a rating below the lowest possible score.

Frustrating doctor visit with zero compassion

I had an appointment this morning regarding my sciatica, and when I tried to discuss my mental health, the doctor abruptly told me that I could only address one issue per visit and suggested I book another appointment. Seriously? My mental health is deteriorating because of my sciatica! So frustrated that I decided to switch medical practices on my way home. The whole experience is ridiculous - having to queue up at 8am just to secure an appointment, with nobody answering the phone, sick people everywhere. The good doctors like Dr. Williams have all left, and the new physician I saw lacks any semblance of compassion. This was supposed to be our family practice, a place where doctors knew and cared about their patients. Someone suggested blaming funding, but I disagree. First, doctors aren't struggling financially, and secondly, this profession has historically attracted individuals motivated by more than money. What I see now is simply a lack of professional pride and commitment to patient care.

Compassionate doctors but cold receptionist experience

The medical professionals were incredibly empathetic, competent, and supportive. While I recognize the challenges of managing incoming calls, I'm frustrated that the front desk staff seem to have been overlooked when it comes to compassion training.

Lifelong patient grateful for our incredible nhs

Having been a patient for more than four decades, I've consistently found no problems accessing medical care, though waiting times can be lengthy. Rather than complaining, it would be more constructive to examine the underlying challenges of healthcare funding and governmental support. I am truly appreciative that our National Health Service exists - while not flawless, it offers a complimentary, high-standard healthcare service for individuals requiring medical attention.

Terrible healthcare with rude and threatening staff

This medical practice is absolutely dreadful. They resort to intimidation by threatening to withhold prescriptions when patients voice concerns. The deputy manager Sean harassed my mother, and the general manager Tina is incredibly condescending. I am definitely reporting this surgery to the Care Quality Commission. Stay away from this place at all costs - the general practitioners here are incompetent and they hire staff who completely lack compassion.

Horrible phone service at this medical practice

I've been attempting to contact this medical practice since 8:29 AM, and despite their instructions to call between 8:30 and 9:00, it's been futile. I've tried dialing over 500 times without success. The staff at Burnley's surgery advise patients to phone during this specific window, but it's completely pointless as one can never get through. This practice requires a thorough investigation into their communication failures.
