Adult Female Asperger's: Dismissed Without Diagnosis

I won’t mention any names, but an incident from a few years back still lingers in my memory. At the time, I was facing numerous challenges and my family started to suspect that I might have Asperger's syndrome. After visiting my general practitioner, I was shocked to hear them express the notion that you could "spot Asperger's from miles away." It’s astonishing that a medical professional would make such a statement. I've decided never to return to this GP again. Through extensive research, I've learned that diagnostic criteria primarily focuses on males who are diagnosed with Asperger's since they represent the majority of cases. Unfortunately for adult females like myself who also have Asperger's, there is often a dismissive attitude; we sometimes feel as though we're laughed out of consultation rooms. This lack of seriousness towards our experiences can be quite painful, especially when simply scheduling an appointment with a doctor can be daunting for many individuals. Moreover, referrals seem impossible as one doctor claimed it was "pointless" for adults seeking help. Pointless for whom? For me personally, obtaining proper support would be tremendously beneficial! The NHS appears reluctant to invest in diagnoses due to their high costs… which makes this whole situation incredibly disheartening.
