Appalling handling of a personal data request

Appalling handling of a personal data request In February 2026, I submitted a subject access request for personal information about me held within Bishopgate Medical Centre’s systems. The practice extended its response period by two months, claiming the request was complex because it was a small organisation and needed outside assistance to run the searches. In my view, this was an attempted abuse of the extension provisions and an excuse for delay, not a credible explanation of why my request was complex. It raises serious questions about the data practices of an organisation entrusted with sensitive personal data. Months later, the information I requested still has not been provided. I have brought a County Court claim over the practice’s handling of the request. Its attempts to justify this handling have been embarrassing. A request for my own information has turned into months of chasing and court proceedings. I should not have to go to these lengths to obtain a proper response from an organisation entrusted with personal data. This experience has left me with no confidence in the practice’s approach to transparency or accountability. There has been considerably more effort devoted to explaining why I should wait than to resolving the issue. The partners should be asking serious questions about how this has been handled. Respect for personal information rights is a basic responsibility, not an administrative inconvenience to be brushed aside.
