Appointment booked but no actual help provided

I seldom write negative reviews, but I must say my experience at this GP practice has been deeply disappointing and has caused me considerable stress. As a patient with a chronic metabolic condition, I contacted the surgery about a skin growth on my dominant hand in an area that experiences frequent contact with surfaces and everyday items. This proximity to my fingertip area was concerning to me due to potential irritation, transmission, and the impact on my ability to perform routine activities. Initially, the online system suggested I purchase over-the-counter topical treatments. However, due to my medical condition, pharmacies declined to dispense these products without medical oversight due to safety considerations. I communicated this clearly to the surgery in a subsequent message. An in-person appointment was subsequently arranged for the following week, which naturally created an expectation that I would receive appropriate care. I took time away from work to attend, only to be informed that the surgery could not offer treatment and that they "do not really deal with this type of issue". I felt the appointment could have been prevented with better prior communication. What troubled me most was the absence of clear direction or alternative options. The clinician suggested covering the growth with adhesive tape from a hardware store, which did little to reassure me given my underlying health condition and the concerns I had previously outlined. Unfortunately, this has not been an isolated incident. I have also experienced ongoing difficulties with adjustments to my medication regimen, including repeated postponements and inadequate coordination between the practice, hospital services, and the dispensary. This has created unnecessary anxiety regarding a matter that is clearly time-critical for someone managing my condition. I recognise the NHS faces significant challenges and staff are stretched, but patients should still expect transparent communication, appropriate guidance, and not to feel undervalued or passed between services without resolution.
