Appointment cancelled with no alternative offered

Got a text message today notifying me that my appointment for staple removal following my procedure had been cancelled. The stated reason was insufficient staffing availability. I was advised to attend a walk-in centre or contact the telephone advice line. However, both options proved unhelpful, as they directed me back to my GP. After eventually contacting the hospital, I was told to ring my GP and explain that this should be their responsibility, and to request a visit from a community nurse. It seems this information could have been provided from the outset rather than sending me in circles.
