Dangerous mistake leads to unnecessary stress and medication

Following my medical appointment, I received a text from Lister House Surgery instructing me to collect antibiotics from the pharmacy. However, no explanation was provided about my test results, leaving me completely in the dark about why these medications were necessary. Overwhelmed with fear and anxiety, I collected and started taking the antibiotics. I attempted to contact the receptionist multiple times, but she consistently refused to help me get information from the doctors about my test results. My attempts on Monday were equally unsuccessful. Ultimately, I was forced to call 111 to request a doctor's callback. Between Friday and Tuesday, I remained completely uninformed about my medical condition, experiencing constant worry and anxiety, especially given that two different medication sets had been issued. On Tuesday, the doctor finally called to inform me that the text message was a mistake and I should not have been taking the antibiotics. By this point, I had already consumed both medication packs for several days. The antibiotics additionally caused significant nausea. When I sought a refund or compensation for the stress, the doctor flatly refused. As a result, I will be escalating this matter to the Ombudsman service. In my view, this represents the worst GP practice in Luton and poses a genuine threat to patient safety.
