I have been a patient at this medical practice since relocating to the area three years ago. Initially, I was thoroughly impressed with the professional service and attentive care received during each visit, and I provided a glowing recommendation. Unfortunately, the subsequent years have witnessed a dramatic decline in service quality and GP accessibility. Obtaining appointments has become increasingly challenging, and the GP service has deteriorated, characterized by a noticeable lack of patient compassion and concern. Emails seeking advice and information go unanswered, while the practice seems more focused on peripheral health initiatives like smoking cessation and blood pressure management - remnants of the now-obsolete NHS QOF performance framework designed to boost GP compensation. Critically, no meaningful support or guidance has been provided to address genuine health concerns, despite repeated requests. This morning, I attempted to schedule a GP appointment, calling at 8:30 AM - the only viable time to secure a slot. After spending ten minutes on hold at my own expense, I finally reached a receptionist who informed me that no appointments were available today or tomorrow. The booking system has clearly changed, now restricting patient access compared to previous practices. When I was told I could only see a GP in a medical emergency, I found this suggestion absurd - in such a scenario, one would naturally proceed directly to the hospital. We have concluded that accessing reliable GP care now necessitates seeking a private practitioner - a frustrating prospect given the substantial contributions my husband and I have made to the healthcare system over many years. I strongly advise anyone considering registering with a surgery in Southport to avoid this practice. While the underlying issues may stem from governmental healthcare policies, the result remains consistent: inadequate, untimely access to competent medical services.
