Westbourne Medical Centre is a sprawling healthcare facility with an extensive team of medical and support personnel. Having been registered here for over 15 years (as of 2023), my initial experiences were less than ideal due to an interaction with a senior staff member. While I initially felt unsupported, subsequent encounters have been notably positive, hence the four-star rating. After voicing my concerns, I was promptly assigned a new doctor, Dr Gareth Edwards, who has been exceptionally supportive and attentive to my every concern. For urgent medical needs, same-day appointments are readily available (I've secured a slot within 20 minutes of calling). In July 2023, they transitioned to an online pre-assessment system, which, while slightly complex, eliminates lengthy phone wait times. The practice maintains a close relationship with Poole Bay Pharmacy, enabling electronic prescription transfers and repeat prescription requests via their website. Appointments are strategically allocated based on required medical expertise, ranging from nurse consultations (with limited prescribing capabilities) to doctor visits, including duty and regular practitioners. A clinical pharmacist is also available and has proven incredibly helpful. I've additionally consulted with specialists from Poole Hospital, including musculoskeletal specialist Ian Kennedy, who is excellent despite significant appointment waiting periods (my last consultation required a 6-week wait). The reception staff, particularly the regular team, demonstrate remarkable efficiency and telephone professionalism. I am thoroughly satisfied with this medical practice and wholeheartedly recommend their services.
