Endless waiting and frustration with phone surgery

I received a call for phone support and spent two hours waiting, with one of those hours being told I was next in line, only to have my position reset to eighth in the queue. I attempted to call again later in the afternoon, and once more found myself supposedly next in line, but after an hour of waiting, the clock struck 5 pm and the line went dead. I'm still completely in the dark about the purpose of their call.
