Felt unheard after serious accident, needed more support

I recently attended an appointment following a significant accident and unfortunately came away feeling disappointed with my experience. The clinician appeared to focus primarily on documenting my reported symptoms without demonstrating much warmth or engaging in meaningful conversation. When I raised concerns that my current pain relief was insufficient, I was informed it represented the maximum option available to prescribe, and no alternative approaches or onward referrals were discussed. I also felt obliged to request mental health support independently. Although I was aware of what to ask for, I recognise that other patients in comparable circumstances might not have this knowledge and could potentially leave without any psychological support being offered to them. Following a traumatic incident, I believe the clinician should have proactively suggested mental health support and outlined what options might be available. During such challenging times, patients require not only clinical care but also genuine compassion and clear guidance. I would hope the practice might consider this feedback and work towards ensuring that patients facing similar experiences receive more comprehensive support, addressing both their physical and emotional wellbeing.
