Frustrating appointment system from a desperate patient

I'm not typically someone who pens reviews or readily critiques services I depend on, but I feel compelled to share my frustration. I had hoped this medical practice had updated its appointment scheduling approach, but clearly nothing has changed. When I attempted to book an appointment today, I was informed the only option is to call precisely at 8 AM to secure a same-day slot. It's reminiscent of a competitive survival scenario, like the tension in "The Hunger Games". This approach strikes me as completely insufficient and frankly inhumane. During a previous attempt last year, I spent nearly an hour and a half on hold. Such a system is simply unacceptable, particularly for someone in their eighties like myself. What possible justification could there be for preventing advance booking??
