Frustrating appointment system makes booking nearly impossible

The telephone appointment booking system is frustrating. I've recently relocated to the area and attempted to schedule an appointment for my son. When calling early in the morning, I was advised to ring back in the afternoon because morning slots were already fully booked, despite calling at the earliest opportunity. When I questioned why afternoon appointments couldn't be booked during morning hours, I was told that afternoon booking lines only open in the afternoon. This seems like an inefficient arrangement. Calling in the afternoon results in being told that all appointments for that day are taken. It took a month of attempting to secure an appointment, and when I visited the practice in person, I discovered they close at midday for lunch. The current appointment system appears to need significant revision. I would rate this experience extremely poorly if given the option.

Dear Sir/Madam, Apologies for the late reply. We a very sorry to hear you have had a frustrating experience. We operate an on the day booking system for patients who need to be seen on the day / Urgent. We open our phone lines at 8:30am daily, as you can imagine we have a large volume of calls at that time and a maximum of 4 staff manning the phone lines. We have a system to make it fair to all patients where we can book so many pre bookable appointments with some blocked for on the day appointments which release on that day at 7:30am and then some at 1:30pm. We do pre book 1 week in advance but are sometimes able to book even for the next day / day after and so on. As a practice we have 8300+ patients and a great demand for on the day appointments which we simply cant accommodate to everyone. We will however try our best in fitting extra/urgent appointments in if we see fit to do so. If we cant we can always signpost and book into other services: Walk in centres, pharmacies and our Local Hubs. We do however appreciate your feedback and are always welcoming ideas for change from our patients. We hope this information helps you. Kind regards WMP
