Frustrating healthcare experience with confusing appointment system

I'm reluctant to criticize the NHS, but after being referred by this practice to the BRI, I received a text from the Doctor to schedule a follow-up appointment regarding my previous visit. When I attended the initial appointment, I was instructed to book a follow-up with the Doctor within 7 to 10 days. Upon attempting to do so, I was told, "You must call at 8am and we only book appointments 3 days in advance." This is not about reporting a new illness, but simply following the request from the Practice and BRI. I understand it's likely their standard procedure, but it doesn't strike me as a sensible approach. Shouldn't they be able to reserve slots beyond the 3-day window and cancel if more urgent cases arise?
