Frustrating healthcare run-around leads to nowhere

Submitted a medical request early this morning, and by mid-morning it was passed to the pharmacy. The pharmacy then rang later, conducted an extensive questionnaire, and ultimately advised that a doctor's consultation was necessary. When I attempted to book a doctor's appointment shortly after, I discovered no slots were available. Their recommendation was to contact the out-of-hours medical service for my tonsillitis. It's completely understandable why hospital emergency departments are overcrowded with non-emergency patients - people are driven to seek help there because accessing a standard GP appointment has become virtually impossible.
