GP avoided liaison work due to cost concerns

I had a complicated matter that required my GP practice to communicate with a government department. That department needed the practice to provide straightforward information. Instead of handling this directly, the practice contacted me to suggest that I obtain my medical records and send them myself to the government department, despite that department already being in possession of these records. The practice cited concerns about potential retrieval costs as their reason for this approach. I was informed that I could potentially be held responsible for any expenses if the practice were unable to recover costs from the government department. This response was disappointing, particularly given that the practice holds accreditation for supporting a specific patient group. I felt the practice prioritised financial considerations over providing the service that was expected of them.
